We couldn't have asked for a better cabin near Fairplay, CO. The owner was very responsive for all my questions and even available via cellphone during our stay. For the middle of the summer, it was so temperate so no need to even think about A/C. The kitchen was well stocked with all the things you need to feel right at home. Be prepared for a very bumpy dirt road to the cabin so if you have an SUV it's a breeze a little city car not so much but that's the price for feeling like it's just you and the mountains. The driving directions were top notch. Just an overall great cabin.
Great getaway, off in the woods with dynamic view in every direction. A mountain stream running through the property was the quintessential babbling brook. The view from the living room through the picture window might as well been a painting, especially at sunset. The ladies in our group really enjoyed the décor. The cabin is decorated for all seasons so will fit any time of the year. I use the word cabin loosely, it is really a three level house with all the amenities you would expect. I did a lot of hiking and exploring the area and burning lots of "digital film". You don't have to go out for wildlife, just look out the windows. Deer have a smorgasbord in the front yard. The kitchen was fully equipped including a dishwasher. I'm ready to go back!
This cabin was absolutely beautiful. In the past; coming to Colorado; we had stayed @ (& I truly mean-roughing it type of cabins-meaning bare minimum kitchens & bathroom's.) This cabin was more than comfortable. All the amenities needed. Usually when we go to a cabin in Colorado; we have to take EVERYTHING with us - i.e. - crock pots; electric griddle; towels; sheets etc., (I did read from a previous review to take your own spices. That was a very helpful tip as it turned out.)
We had a hard time logging onto the WiFi/internet. But, in the long run was nice that it was so difficult - kept everyone "unplugged!" Including us (mom & dad!) By the time getting towards the end of the week it was nice that everyone was getting away from the deprivation of being "connected."
The owners were ssooo good to work with. Answered every single question we had in a timely manner.
The area was pristine. We even got a visit from the infamous "Charlie-moose!" a couple of times. The beds were extraordinarily comfortable! We were pleasantly surprised to find the basement actually could sleep 5 instead of what the picture showed as just 3. This kept the "teenagers-young adults" in 1 location-to feel free in staying up late & not keeping us "old people" awake!
When it rained (actually iced a couple of times-IN JULY!) it was nice to be able to relax in such a pleasant cabin. It was warm & comfortable in so many ways. Where-as-when our usual cabin stay in Colorado were very roughing it; made our stay so much more enjoyable. LOVED loved listening to the stream from the cabin being so close. The teenager's hiked up the mountain nearby-(including my husband age 52 thinking he was a teenager also!)
Fairplay was a nice quaint little town. We drove to Breckenridge-about an hour away. What a sweet little town. We enjoyed a horse back ride that was within 15 minutes from the cabin.
We would DEFINITELY stay again if we ever came back to Colorado again. Thank you!
We stayed for 4 nights at the Roark cabin and had a WONDERFUL time! It was everything we hoped for and more. We enjoyed morning walks on the property each day, taking in the crisp mountain air and enjoying all the little critters that were out searching for breakfast. In the evenings we saw herds of elk and a few moose just a short drive from the cabin. Our dogs loved the back deck, which is completely closed off from the ground so they couldn't wander off. The stars were absolutely glorious each night and we thoroughly enjoyed getting chilled while star gazing and then coming in and warming ourselves by the fire. Our 2 yr old daughter woke up each morning asking to 'make a fire!', and she actually cried when it was time to go home because she didn't want to leave the 'cabin in the mountains'.
I stay in this home for a few nights and it was comfortable and well equipped for some light cooking. I was looking for something "out" in the wilderness and this hit the mark. I would stay here again.
