For a unique stay in New York, try our renovated 1870s refuge on the hill. Our large wooded lot gives you a needed break from Manhattan, but you can reach all the excitement within an hour via the Staten Island Ferry, the greatest free ride in the world. . You can see the Verrazano Bridge twinkling from our windows, and the sea from our street.
Indoors there is room to spread out, cook dinner and relax after a tough day of tourism. Just bring your clothes, we provide everything else. Extended family and friend groups of 5-9 are our specialty. If your crowd is bigger, we have another apartment upstairs in the same house.
Our place works for guests with or without cars. Shops and restaurants are a few minutes' walk away. But if you bring a vehicle, you can park on our street without the dreaded "alternate side" hassles you get elsewhere in NYC.
Staying here does require climbing steps, and some spirit of adventure. You need to feel comfortable in a diverse residential neighborhood where people of many races and economic groups live close together, in harmony. On the other hand, you will experience the real New York beyond the standard tourist grid.
Our house is exactly 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from the Staten Island Ferry terminal: 15-20 minutes walk or a few minutes by car. The Ferry itself remains FREE, and by far the most beautiful way to enter New York. It runs 24/7, usually every half hour. If you're feeling less energetic on the way home, cabs are available at the terminal for less than $10, or you can hop a bus a few stops. .
Our neighborhood, known as Downtown Staten Island or St. George, is a true melting pot of races, origins and classes. That means varied and cheap eating. At walking distance you can enjoy, Mexican, Italian, Polish, Sri Lankan and Senegalese cuisines, among others, for much lower prices than in Manhattan.
