Vacation, business, or extended stays. Hotel bills can add up quickly on longer trips, and this South Austin location is a fun, affordable alternative. We've had many guests comment on how spacious it is. The 600 sq ft fully furnished suite is on the lower level of a 1950's home. There is a queen-sized bed, sitting area with sofa, kitchen, bathroom, and patio overlooking a large yard shaded with beautiful big oak trees.
This is a quiet, secluded setting, where the Texas sun filters through the branches of wonderful old live oaks, yet it is just a short way to all the activity of South Congress, Sixth Street, and the downtown area. Enjoy everything Austin has to offer with a visit here! Also close and convenient access to the airport.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the layout, and keep in mind that there are three people living in the house upstairs. The studio sleeping area is below the upstairs kitchen and noise does come through the floors from activity overhead, walking around, talking, chairs moving. Someone may be hungry and fixing a sandwich or a pizza at 2 or 3 in the morning. For guests who are sensitive to noise or light sleepers, this might something to consider when deciding whether to stay here. Also, there is an interior stairway from the studio going up to a shared laundry room. The stairway is behind the wall seen in the photos at the end of the room, however there is not a separate door closing off the studio from this stairway. There is one thermostat for the AC in the house and the lower studio, and if any adjustments are needed to the temperature we will change the setting for visitors in the studio.

Location, layout & amenities were exactly as described in the listing. We made it to/from the airport in less than 15 minutes. If you are planning to walk to South Congress Street for shopping, etc. you might want to consider an alternate method to save you some time (it would be a long walk). We ate at Curra's and Whip In which are both nearby to the property, and great "local" atmospheres. The property was clean and well maintained. Karen was very prompt when responding to our booking request. She helped explain the location of the property, and interesting things to do in Austin. She also offered to pick us from the airport, which would have taken her up on had we not been renting a car. Karen was very transparent up front about the fact we might hear noise coming from upstairs in the early morning hours due to the work schedules of the tenants who live upstairs (we slept right through any noise that may have been occurring). If traveling to Austin again, my wife and I will definitely stay here again.
Quick Tip: Uber & Lyft are no longer operating in Austin, and the public transit system seems to leave people waiting for long periods of time. Austin can be experienced best by renting a car. It is much cheaper than you would think especially if booking in advance.
The studio is clean, the owner is welcoming. The studio has everything you need to have a great time, it's very near downtown and all the fun things to do in Austin but it is also far enough from the big streets that it is very quiet.
This Studio had everything I needed for my stay in Austin! Karen greeted me and explained where things were in the apartment. She supplied coffee and filters for the coffee pot. There was even a filtered water pitcher full in the fridge! I would definately stay here again!!!
This place has the convenience of an apartment combined with the privacy and outdoor space of a home. My two dogs enjoyed running around the backyard while my wife and I were appreciative of all the amenities offered, including a kitchen stocked with essential cooking ware, and access to a washer and dryer. Basically, it has everything a couple would need and then extra. The only downside was the army of mosquitos awaiting outside, but since bug spray was provided there wasn't an issue fending them off.
The Basement is confortable with everything You neeed; good communication with the friendly owner; good location in the best city in the world ;-).
I hope to have the opportunity to rent it one more.
This basement studio looking out into a yard with old trees has all the basics, including internet, kitchen with a dishwasher and access to a washer and dryer. My husband and I spent 2 weeks here and were very comfortable.

We are located in a neighborhood just EAST of I-35, between Woodland Avenue and Oltorf.
City bus routes are nearby, so you can get around easily without a rental car in all of the central Austin area. The nearest bus stop is at the corner of Oltorf and Parker Lane, three blocks away. Or you could rent a bike instead of a car -- most things are in easy biking distance. Metropolitan location, but there are also trails, parkland, and greenbelt spaces nearby, including an old-time spring-fed pool for year-round swimming. Tons of fun stuff to do within about 3 miles --- music, restaurants, shopping, hike and bike trails, strolling around Town Lake, bat-watching from the Congress Bridge, swimming at Barton Springs, local theater, art galleries. The attached outdoor patio makes an ideal spot for enjoying coffee in the morning, or relaxing with a glass of wine in the afternoon or evening.
Keep in mind that traffic in Austin can be very slow, so if you expect to be doing things in the north or northwest part of town, this may not be the most convenient choice of places.
