About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Kiawah Island is a barrier island located approximately 20 miles south of the historic city of Charleston. Kiawah has ten miles of pristine beach and five world-class golf courses, including the famous Ocean Course. The island also provides over 30 miles of paved leisure trails, tennis, and plenty of family activities.

Our home was brand new in April, 2001. Features include an open floorplan with a two-story great room, hardwood floors throughout living area, carpeted bedrooms, and tile bathrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and appliances, and bed and bath linens are supplied. There are ceiling fans throughout the entire house, including the front and back porches.

Enjoy your morning cup of coffee in one of the comfortable rocking chairs on the front porch. Spend the afternoon on the spacious, well-furnished back porch, which also features a screened-in area. Your whole family will be able to take advantage of the heated swimming pool (April until end of October), and should you choose to spend the day at the beach, it is a 13-minute walk or a seven-minute bike ride. You can rinse off the sand in the outdoor shower when you get back!

The first floor features a master suite (king-size bed) with a private bath that has a jacuzzi tub and separate glass shower. Also on the first floor is a bedroom (queen-size bed) with private bath. Move into the two-story foyer and up the stairs, and you will find two more bedrooms (queen-size bed, two double-size beds) that each have their own bathrooms and private balconies overlooking the pool.

If you are interested in entertainment, all 4 bedrooms have Cable TV and the master also has a VCR. The two-story great room offers a Cable TV with DVD/VCR, stereo, CD changer, and surround sound in the lower level with speakers for the rear deck. The open floor plan provides a steady flow throughout and makes it easy to socialize no matter what room of the house you're in. Have a sit-down dinner with your family at the dining room table that seats ten.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Matt, We just got back from our vacation trip to Kiawah and your beautiful home. We enjoyed your home very much, it was comfortable and had everything we could have only imagined we needed. We rented bikes and rode them to the beach everyday ( with perfect weather ). We definately want to go back next year and would enjoy renting your home again. Thanks again.....looking forward to another visit.

Picture Perfect, but even better!

  • 5 of 5

My family (6 adults) stayed here over the July 4th week for some relaxation and fun in the sun. The house exceeded our expectations. And it looks even nicer in person than in the photographs. We slept in most of our days, made breakfast, took a long walk or bike ride to the beach and then relaxed by the pool. We took advantage of the local shopping center (great market!) and cooked most of our meals at the house. We also went into Charleston for 2 days and look in the sights and visited local hot spots like Fire Fly Distillery and Holy City Brewing Company. The kitchen is stocked with tons of pots and pans and the grill worked great for all of our BBQ needs. There was only one game in the house, so plan on bringing your own. That would honestly be our biggest complaint (which is hardly a complaint). We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with family, friends, even kids. Thank you so much to Matt and Kathy for opening up your home to us, it was a lovely week.

Owner's Response: Steve, Thanks so much for the great review. We really try hard to make the house enjoyable for our guests. There should have been some more games underneath the left bookcase in the great room, but we'll check into that when we're there in the fall. Thanks again and we would love to have you back.......Matt

Perfect House for a Friends Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I wanted to have a vacation in South Carolina that would be close to Charleston so we could visit Fort Sumter, Patriots Point and see the historic architecture to be found in this area. This house was perfect for us with its close proximity to the city but far enough away that we enjoyed the quite surroundings. Unfortunately none of us golf since apparently this Island is known to be a famous golfing mecca. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the 4 bedrooms that had their own en suite and a television in each bedroom so the guys could watch what they wanted and I could escape to my room to watch what I wanted. I particularly appreciated the coffee pot and my friend Diane and I got up before everyone else, made a pot of coffee and enjoyed it on the covered back porch by the pool and had our quite morning time. There are a couple of things I would tell future renters. Make sure you check out the Fresh Fields Market. We drove to the nearest Bi Lo thinking that the prices would be much better and they really weren’t. Fresh Fields has a great selection but to get the sale prices we had to sign up for a card. An idea for the home owners might be to have a VIC card at the house for your renters? Just a thought. Also the ice in the freezer at the house was kind of nasty. The quick fix was a 10 lb. bag of ice from Fresh Fields took care of that. We like to play cards and the huge kitchen table was able to accommodate our group with no problem. There were six of us. Anyway I would like to thank Matt and Kathy for sharing their lovely home with us.

Owner's Response: We're so glad that you enjoyed our home and the whole Kiawah/Charleston experience. We totally agree about the ice so we always buy a bag for drinks and cocktails.

Perfect house for family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our family vacation at the Vanderhost Plantation early April. This was our first vacation with our first grandchild. Our adult daughters with their husbands and our teenage son all loved it. The house has a perfect layout, open concept family/dining room and kitchen, great to spend time together in the evenings and mornings, everybody can have their own space in the bedrooms. The heated pool was very important part of the vacation, the ocean was still too cold to enjoy swimming. The house is cozy and clean, the kitchen has all necessary for cooking. We enjoyed the bike trails and golfing on the island, lovely and peaceful place. The owners were very helpful during the booking/confirmation process, thank you! If we had questions during our stay, the owners replied to our emails promptly. We are planning to go back in few years.

My husband and I truly enjoyed not only your lovely, comfortable house on Kiawah, but also the great location and beautiful, private surrounding lot. Thanks for all the tips you offered, i.e. restaurants, shopping, and particularly the bike rental company. It was so pleasant to be able to bike to the Town Center market and The Sanctuary instead of getting into the car. This was our first trip to Kiawah, and we were pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the island. It was so peaceful that we felt it would be inappropriate to turn on the car radio for fear that it would break the island spell. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets daily at the extraordinary beach. There were times when you could count the number of people on the beach on one hand. My only disappointment was not seeing an alligator, not even a head sticking out of the water, but maybe next time. We thank you, Matt and Kathy, for allowing us to rent your house this past week, and we hope to be back in the future.

Fabulous for family

  • 5 of 5

My family just returned yesterday from a week at your house. What a fabulous time! The pool was great to escape from the heat after time at the beach. We spent a couple of days in Charleston exploring the Battery and Patriots Point. Essentially this house has 4 suites - each room has its own full bath room. Two up, two down. We were able to accommodate our family, with both of my kids getting their own rooms, as well as my sister and her husband. The owners were great to work with. The beaches of Kiawah are not crowded due to the fact that the entire island is a gated community. Don't let the bike ride dissuade you - it was straight up the Allee of Oaks, the historical route to the beach from the Vanderhorst mansion, shaded and beautiful. We will be back!

Exclusive & Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a luxury of staying at your beautiful home a few weeks ago. Needless to say, we are already locking down some dates to return. The house has the perfect blend for a family with respective quarters to get some privacy. Although mother nature didn't provide us with the sunniest of days, we had a lovely time in the pool, hitting up the local shops and checking out the island in itself. At night the screen-in porch makes for the perfect spot for a card game to wrap up the night. Your extra efforts with recommendations to various restaurants and hotspots was very helpful and much appreciated. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Matt and family!
