We started this business 10 years ago, with the purchase of Republic Island, and added the Rapid River Lodge. We have a unique perspective, as we are both owners and property managers. We love the business and are enjoying it as it grows.
Having a place to go to directly on Lake Michigan where the family can enjoy the sand and swimming was very important to us. Located just 90 minutes from Chicago was ideal. "Harbor Country" has such a wonderful small-town feel that everyone can appreciate it here.
Just steps down to the private beach along Lake Michigan. The patio with propane grill and tables, chairs is a great place to gather for a BBQ. We also love the large deck on the front of the cottage-lots of room for everyone. The cozy fireplace is great during the winter months.
I can't speak highly enough of the Grace cottage. A friend and I spent a winter weekend there, and had one of the best weekends we've ever had. The lake was incredible and the town was quiet and peaceful. The property itself was excellent; we really couldn't have asked for more. It was very comfortable overall and almost exactly what I expected, the description is pretty accurate. The cottage was clean, all the kitchen utensils were provided, and there were plenty of little things that we enjoyed. There were a few logs in the fireplace already, hot chocolate mix in the cabinets, and the grill was even nicer than the one I have at home with a full tank of propane. There was Comcast cable and wifi, too. The little patio and balcony were very cool. It was my friend that dealt with all the booking and payment, but she said it was a very easy, pleasant, and professional experience dealing with the rental agent. If we get a chance to go back, we'll stay at the exact same place. We couldn't have asked for more, and couldn't recommend it more, either.
We loved our stay in Union Pier! U.P. Michigan Rentals, Cara arranged 3 cottages on one property for our large family. The view from the front deck of the Lake Michigan sunsets was magical. All 3 cottages were spotless, perfectly appointed with everything we needed, and provided plenty of space for socializing, cooking, reading, and just plain fun. We hope to rent here for many years to come.
We enjoyed our 2 week stay. We have been staying in Union Pier annualy for 20 years. The cottage was in "better than most" condition. The furnishings were more than adequate. The kitchen & bathroom while outdated were serviceable. The location, though not on the beach was very close. Access to the private beach without going through the public beach would be nice. Parking is tight but worked out fine.
Vilma was very helpful.
Garbage disposal could be improved. The available containers weren't adequate for the volume generated.
Overall it's been a great stay.
This is the second year that my family and I rented the two story beach house in Union Pier. We love coming and my granddaughter refers to it as "The Beach House".
The grounds and house are clean and inviting. The design of the house serves our purposes beautifully. Some of our family stay and others have been able to come for a day, enjoy the house and beach and leave.
The furnishings are old but adequate and one would expect that in a cottage. The availability of a washer/dryer is very helpful especially since we have little ones and they tend to go through things quickly.
The TV worked intermittently. We were not sure if the weather had something to do with that. We do not come to a beach house to watch TV, but this year we were staying tuned in to the Olympics and missed a few of the programs.
The kitchen is adequate, however, the pots/pans are old and there were not enough of them. In my perfect world, there would be a large pot, smaller pot, large fry pan and a smaller fry pan with lids. The blender did not work. (We brought our own.) I enjoy keeping the environment clean while we stay and Vilma did bring a vacuum cleaner but it too is quite old and probably did not do as good a job of picking up the sand. We only used the dishwasher once.
The location and house are beautiful and a treat to experience but the cost is becoming more difficult for middle class working people. Is there any chance of offering a discounted rate to returning patrons? To senior citizens? Once you are finished laughing at my suggestion, please consider it.
All in all, we absolutely love coming to the house and look forward to doing this annually. Vilma is a delight. She is pleasant and very accommodating. She makes herself available and responds to our inquiries immediately.
Sincerely, Nijole Pabst
