Columbia Falls Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to our Northfork Cabin! The home is a newly-constructed (2009) Appalachian-style log-sided home of 2000 square feet, 29X40 with two covered 8 foot deep front and rear porches and a 3/4 loft. It is located on a one (1) acre parcel facing the North Fork of the Flathead River, a National Wild and Scenic River corridor and looks across the river into Glacier National Park. It is truly a unique getaway for those seeking solitude, privacy and the convenient access to nearby wilderness and national park recreational opportunities. Our cabin comfortably accommodates four (4) people maximum. No additional non-contracted guests are permitted.

We are 15 minutes from West Glacier, 10 minutes from Columbia Falls, 20 minutes from Whitefish and Whitefish Mountain Ski Area and 30 minutes from Kalispell and Glacier Park International Airport. Shopping for anything from groceries to antiques is available in these nearby trendy, Western-friendly communities.

Outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities await you here. We have frequent observations of elk, deer, black and grizzly bears, moose, wolves, river otter, beaver, coyotes, wolverines and, of course, all manner of waterfowl, raptors and songbirds like, golden and bald eagles, kingfishers, osprey, tundra swans, geese, mergansers, barred and great-horned owls, ruffed grouse, red-tailed hawks and many others. This is prime wildlife habitat made only more enjoyable by the convenient location of the cabin adjacent to the scenic river corridor.

About Alanna J. Ober

My husband and I are Montana natives and have spent our lifetimes surrounded by the mountains of Northwest Montana. We believe that we are at the center of one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas to vacation. We designed our cabin as a haven for those seeking either adventure or relaxation...or both! It is a convenient jumping off place for nearby wilderness or national park recreation. Our primary residence is nearby Kalispell, MT. I am a registered nurse and my husband is a retired teacher/library director/retired seasonal Glacier Park ranger.

Alanna J. Ober purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Alanna J. Ober chose Glacier Park

The property has been in our family for the past thirty five years. We recently constructed the cabin to take advantage of the scenery adjacent to the river and as a weekend retreat and future retirement home. We purposely maintain the property in a pristine and natural setting to correspond with the scenic river corridor believing that our guests will appreciate the simplicity that we do.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the diverse wildlife viewing on the river corridor and the unsurpassed quiet associated with the private setting combined with all the modern amenities.

Our Favorite Place Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (2 girls 10 and 11) absolutely loved our stay at the Ober's. The cabin was just the right size for us and the scenery just doesn't get any better. We woke early every day to watch deer, elk, and eagles along the river's edge. With an early breakfast we then headed to the park. The cabin is more secluded than many cabins we investigated which was a plus. While there are neighbors nearby we hardly saw them. When we did meet our neighbor we had a great visit about the park and the region. Everything about our stay was fantastic and we cannot wait to come back.

We do have a few suggestions for anyone choosing to visit.

1. Vist the cabin before getting groceries. We made the mistake of buying too many items that were already stocked at the cabin (sugar, coffee, etc..) The grocery store isn't far away so making a second trip in won't take long.

2. Start early. We arrived at the park before 7:30 most days except one. One morning we slept in and got to the park at 9:00. We waited in line to get into the park and everywhere else.

3. Be sure and read the book by Mr. Ober about the park. Being a history teacher I loved reading a little of his book daily. You already feel like you are stepping out of time when you visit Glacier. His book made the trip even more mystical.

4. You probably want to bring an SUV to the cabin as the road to the cabin had standing water at times. Not bad but it wouldn't hurt.

We absolutely loved our stay! The cabin had all the comforts of home and even more. We cannot wait to come back.

My brother and his wife joined us for a trip to Glacier National Park in June. The Park is VERY busy and overrun with tourists. This cabin is a perfect retreat at the end of a hectic day fighting traffic and tourists in the spectacular Park. Each day we would retreat to the incredibly well built cabin and enjoy the view from the river bank and the paintings in the cabin done by one of the owners. We also perused a small paperback book compiled by one of the owners on the early history of the Park with fascinating pictures of the early days of development of the park. The cabin was extremely well furnished and we just loved the place.

Cozy and serene

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable cabin in a prime location on the West Fork of the Flathead River along the border of Glacier National Park. The location is very private, peaceful and quiet; although there are neighboring cabins in view, the residents are either very friendly or not full time residents (and hence, not present when we visited). The views of the mountains inside of the park were fantastic, particularly at sunrise and sunset. Except for sounds in the distance of occasional trains, there were very few human-made sounds to be heard. It's an easy drive into West Glacier and the park, or Columbia Falls where there is a very good restaurant and unexpectedly high quality grocery shopping. It's also a short, pleasant (although with gravel roads) drive to the tiny northern community of Polebridge and a scenic northern section of the park. It's quite enjoyable to sit on the river bank in the evening and take in the beautiful surroundings; it was fun to watch white-tailed deer, mergansers, king fishers, osprey and bald eagles pass by. The cabin was luxurious for just two people and would work well for 4. The kitchen was well equipped with very charming sets of vintage china and stoneware, and lots of utensils. Highly recommended.

This cabin was perfect for our family of 4! It was beautiful on the inside and out. Perfect location right beside the river with beautiful views all around. The cabin was very clean and had everything you could need. The owners were especially friendly and we're available if you should need anything! Such a beautiful place and we hope to return!

Best trip of our lives!!!

  • 5 of 5

Words can't even express how perfect our trip to Montana was! Glacier National Park and all surrounding areas are breathtaking. My husband and I have never been to this part of the country before, and now we feel like a part of us will always be there. This cabin was the icing on the cake. It is adorable and super cozy! The views are spectacular and watching wildlife on the river is very enjoyable. We would both recommend staying at this cabin on your trip to the area. We will always remember this vacation fondly. It is one for the books.

Secluded yet only 10 miles to Columbia Falls, nice neighbors, go to goggle earth to find the shortcut to west glacier, cuts 20 miles off the drive and up to 45 minutes or longer depending on traffic, bring water shoes and a walking stick in the late season river is great, good camera with zoom is a must, owners are very helpful, pictures do not do justice to the place, will stay there again in a couple of years if it is still on the rental list

Our favorite time of year is Fall with September and October being the optimum times to visit. Fall colors are incredible, Larch trees are turning color, wildlife is abundant, crowds are gone, Park and local facilities are open, bugs are gone, trails are open and the surrounding area is very quiet. Consider booking a Fall rental!
