Guestbook comments from the manager

Many thanks to all of the Brown family. We enjoyed the peaceful time we spent at your wonderful home. The beauty & craftsmanship of the cottage make it my favorite of places. The horse ride in the morning and the hike on the trail was a great blessing. Thanks again.

Cabin in the Woods

Beautiful well kept home in a secluded peaceful setting. Kitchen is furnished with anything you may need to prepare a meal. Or you can enjoy The Homestead Cafe which is a short walk from the house. We would love to spend every weekend there!

Great! Exactly what we our family was looking for!

  • 5 of 5

The great outdoors in the great state of Texas! The only flip side, which the owner mentioned, is that wifi is very spotty but we were out and about away from the house a lot so it wasn't really an issue except for my husband who needed to be online for work and our son who 'needed' to connect with all the happenings of welcome week stuff at Baylor. We were here to move our son into Baylor so most of our time was spent doing that but had moments to catch-release-fish in the river, hang out by the pond, jogging through the property and of course browsing through all the great workshops and stores on the property! We'd stay here again!

Private, Peaceful, Pretty

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed touring the Homestead Heritage community. The Sorghum ice cream will live on in our memories. The home was clean and well appointed. We admired the tasteful decorations, enjoyed the perfectly country front porch, and noticed the quality in most the furnishings. Our only complaint was with the King mattress which felt quite worn out and left is a little more sleepless and sore with each night.

Owner's Response: We were so surprised to hear you weren't comfortable in the bed. We've had nothing but very positive feedback about that bed. One review said it was the most comfortable mattress they had ever slept on. We wish we had personally heard from you while you were staying in the house so we could have tried to make you more comfortable. We understand that everyone has their own opinion about what makes a mattress comfortable, so a few years ago we bought a very expensive latex mattress that was not too firm and not too soft, hoping it would be comfortable for most. We have checked with our guests since you were here and they said the mattress was comfortable. We will do our best to provide a relaxing and wonderful stay for all of our guests.

It felt like heaven on earth.

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful. My whole family was able to reset from the usual busyness and worldliness of the day to day grind. The rare horses were beautiful and friendly. I think there was something special in the wind there for more reasons than one. Curtis and Lem were courteous and great people. The community there gives me hope for the world. I was calculating exactly how often I could afford to stay there.

Peaceful, quiet getaway, yet conveniently close to everything

  • 5 of 5

My mother, aunt, and I enjoyed our girls' 3 day getaway out at the ranch. It took a little getting used to the absence of wifi and electronic noise (there is no TV), and cell service was spotty. But once we decompressed a little and unwound from technology, the silence and sounds of nature were awesome. The beautiful cabin had everything we needed and was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed walking along the road to visit the cows and horses, standing on the pavilion overlooking the river, and sitting on the front porch chatting and listening to the fish jump in the pond. The best part was our little place of relaxation was so close to anything we wanted to do in Waco. Not only was it less than a mile from Homestead Craft Village (and the AMAZING Cafe Homestead) it was only a 10-20 minute drive from downtown Waco and all that it offers. If you are looking for a way to disconnect from technology and reconnect to those you love, this is the place to go.

Peaceful retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is the place to disconnect and relax. Full disclosure - there is no wifi and no TV. Cell service was sketchy. But, after the initial adjustment, we decided it was what we needed. The owner informed us of some issues with the water supply (slight, but noticeable smell), but a separate filtration system has been installed for drinking/cooking. We were completely captivated by the adjacent Homestead community. Unique offerings and a wonderful restaurant. The craftsmen/women at the Homestead were very welcoming and informative. We stocked up at the market on our way out. This is a working ranch - 1) the cattle are not pets, and 2) watch your step. Waco is close by for all of the standard amenities. Finally, the drive in is not "rugged", but it is a bit rough. We were fine; but, if you vacation using a low-clearance sports car this is not the road for you.
