Casa Almendro is a new, roomy studio with great Caribbean views.
This bright and breezy studio includes a large, furnished terrace overlooking the Esperanza shoreline. The entire second floor is your private paradise! Lots of comfortably furnished outdoor living space, including a dining table and chairs, dreamy Papa-san chair, cushioned couch and lounge chairs on the terrace. Inside, you will relax on two couches, two comfy double beds, and enjoy a well equipped kitchen. This gorgeous Studio apartment has everything you need including a blender for those tropical drinks! Listen to the Coqui in our lush tropical garden. Then, as the sun begins to set, lounge on our comfy furniture on our rooftop terrace! This is the best sunset in Vieques! The roof features 360 degree views of the Caribbean ocean and mountains! Custom designed and built furniture (with luxurious cushions!), and a bar with a sink make this roof top the ultimate in living in paradise.
We are located on the southern coast of the island, on a cul-de-sac in the small fishing village of Esperanza. We are within walking distance to the Malecon, with it's great restaurants, bars and gift shops.
Eileen was amazing and very responsive throughout our whole stay! The apartment was clean and very close to restaurants, a market and the Malecon. Hands down the best part of our stay was the view from the roof. It is absolutely breathtaking and we found it difficult to part ways with this glorious, unique panoramic view of the island. I would most definitely recommend Eileen's space and look forward to booking upon our return to Vieques.
Everything about the apartment to be just as pictured, except the view, which pictures cannot do justice. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The outdoor patio (second floor, same as entrance to apartment) was really nice and we used it quite a bit when we wanted shade. The roof top patio is what makes this place extra special. The view of the ocean is amazing! And sitting up there at night stargazing was really enjoyable. It was also really nice to stay within such a short walk of the restaurants and bars. Parking in the Malecon area fills up quickly so it's really nice to just walk. We didn't have a chance to meet the owners, but Eileen was super easy to work with. The only negative thing is the area is loud loud at night. The roosters crow at all times, and the nearby grocery store plays loud music for the folks sitting outside drinking their beer until pretty late at night. Since the apartment doesn't have air conditioning, we needed to keep the windows open, but this lets in the noise. So, be sure to bring ear plugs! If we have the chance to return to Vieques, I would definitely stay here again.
First, Casa Almendro is in Esperanza, without contest a more lively and prettier seaside than Isabel Segunda on the North shore. Secondly, its location in Esperanza is near perfect – 2 small blocks from the Malecon on a quiet cul-de-sac (but for the roosters crowing at all times).
Another advantage, the apartment is on the second floor (on top of the owners residence). Since it is higher than all neighboring dwellings, it feels airy. A steady, low intensity easterly breeze (the trade wind) flows day and night from one end of the place to the other (at least in winter), eliminating tropical dampness and heat. This is truly a great asset. Besides, you would probably like us stay most of the time outdoors on the big, covered terrace (about one third of the total footage).
The place is nicely furnished with a nice bath and a large, well-appointed kitchen. The two double beds are good, but I am wondering how (as advertised) four people could sleep there, except if the extra two sleepers are small children sharing the same bed. In any case the all open layout does not allow for privacy. But it is perfect for two.
Shopping for food can be done around the corner in a small, extremely basic mini-market (no produce!). The nearest swimmable beach is beyond the “sugar pier” at the other end of the Malecon, a 10 to 15 minute walk (no, there is no swimming nearer, only wading ankle deep). For better beaches and for better shopping you need a vehicle (a Jeep could be overkill, something like a Kia Soul seems to me enough). Reserve it ahead of time!
Finally, Eileen and Anthony are very discreet hosts but make it clear they are always ready to provide help in case you need it. We could not be more satisfied with their hospitality and our one-week stay on Casa Almendro!
Anthony and Eileen have a wonderful home and make you feel like you belong in this paradise. Casa Almendro is a great location just around the corner and up the hill from the Malecon with a small grocery store Lydia's just down the hill. The views from the rooftop terrace are breathtaking as are the sunrise and sunsets every day. The suite is bright, airy and very welcoming. No A/C necessay with the cooling breezes. We had a wonderful vacation and we will return to Casa Almendro again - highly recommended. I would given more stars if I could have! Thank you Anthony and Eileen.
We just returned from two wonderful weeks at Casa Almendro. The combination of a wonderful studio apartment and Eileen and Anthony, our hosts, can't be beat. The studio had everything that we could want on a vacation. Particularly, the views from the balcony and the upstairs roof area were exceptional and the cooling breezes inside the studio from windows on all four sides, made for a comfortable stay without air conditioning, which we try to avoid at all costs. Vieques is a paradise for swimmers and snorkelers and Eileen made those experiences fantastic because of her recommendations and her inviting us to join her wonderful snorkeling group. One night, (lucky for us) we were able to attend a performance of Eileen and Anthony's band at a local restaurant. It seemed that all of Vieques was there to hear them perform and to dance the night away.
This place is a keeper and we look forward to coming again to Casa Almendro.
This was my second time at Casa Almendro in 2015. I was there in May 2015 with our daughter and came back in December 2015 with my husband. I think that says it all. This time we had the great pleasure of meeting Eileen and Anthony who are the perfect hosts. In addition, the long draught of 2015 has come to an end and everything is green again on Vieques. This small island has become one of my favorite spots and Casa Almendro is the perfect base to explore it from.
