About Steve Taylor

We started coming to the Outer Banks in 1981 and in 2001 we decided to buy a beach house to be able to enjoy the beach the way we wanted to.

In 2004 we relocated to the OBX from Virginia and have never looked back. Our time spent here is more than fantastic as it is something we dreamed of for years and will remain a dream finally realized.

Steve Taylor purchased this house in 2005

2 wonderful weeks of family reunion at Ducktales

  • 5 of 5

Our family (3 generations from 3 different countries) shared fantastic fun in the great, comfortable house called Ducktales. Youngsters (4 & 6-year old) especially enjoyed the pool where their parents oversaw safe swimming; everyone had a great time at the beach itself, an easy walk up the street to the ocean (quickly across Duck Road); and many of us made the comfortable walk to Duck "proper" early every morning for donuts and newspapers.

The house was plenty big enough for the baker's dozen (including an 8-month-old) there for the first week; and easy to retrofit when most left and made room for another (smaller) set of friends.

The kitchen is stocked with most every appliance and cooking equipment imaginable. The grill was also well-used. The cul-de-sac was quiet, away from traffic. We watched for Perseid meteor shower in clear skies from the upper deck.

Another Plus: The beds were very comfortable - an indication to me of the care that the owners have taken in helping make the house a true home away from home.

I would definitely recommend this house to friends.

Ducktastic!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on our vacation from 7/30-8/6/16. The house was fantastic and better than we had imagined! We had everything we needed and it was great to have a home base that felt so inviting. Our dogs were right at home and the street is a dead-end so there is hardly any traffic. The only caution I would mention, which anyone reading this probably already knows, beware of the travel traffic on Saturday! It took us 5 hours to get from Virginia Beach to the house. We hit it at the wrong time.... Go in VERY early, spend the day in town or at the beach and leave early too to avoid the Saturday change over traffic. You will thank me for that.

Clean, well maintained, nice property. Well stocked kitchen with up to date appliances.

Enjoyed staying in the house. Enough room for our family. Pool and hot tub was great! The only down side to this property is that to get to the beach you have to cross an extremely busy street that does not have any crosswalks. It was even difficult to pull out in car due to extreme traffic. There is minimal parking at the beach so would drive children to beach return vehicle to house then driver would walk to beach. Would then have to repeat to get the kids to the house safely. As nice as the house is would not return due to the traffic.

The owners customer service was great until after our stay was over . We had payed to have insurance in case something unseen should happen. Our king bed happened to have a bottom sheet that was so worn it split last night we were there. When we got home we received an email asking us what happened to the king sheet we explained what happened and apologized for not informing him. Thought that would be the end of it. No we then got a picture of the torn sheet after being washed and dried, which of course went from a split to a gaping hole. Did not feel that was called for.

Owner's Response: I am always concerned when the housekeeper sends me a text of linens ripped from top to bottom and stating other towels were soiled beyond cleaning and the house was "filthy".The linen had not been washed and dried? Why wash and dry something that could never be used again. I asked one guest about the linen and he was unaware of the issue, although he slept in the bed, but the wife stated it was so thin it tore. I always include pictures of an issue, of which we have very few, for the guests to see. In this case because the husband stated he was unaware of what I was talking about. I expressed my concern about someone having to sleep on something so damaged but I guess my concern was taken as being picky. We do provide a clean and well equipped home and ask our guests to make us aware of an issue. Duck road is a very busy road in the summer. There are delays and you have to be patient when crossing ANY road on the Outer Banks. Parking is limited in Duck on any street as there are no huge public parking areas there. That is why people love Duck and return for years. The small and quaint nature of Duck. Our rates are based on the fact that we are on the sound side and it does take 10-15 minutes to walk to the beach or 5 minutes to ride a bike. Homes are available on the Oceanside at higher rates. I am sorry and concerned about ANY issue we have at our home and do all I can to correct the issue.

Relaxing and quiet. Comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, great amenities, loved the pool and hot tub. Lots of room. Great kitchen. Enjoyed the stars at night on the top deck. The owners were very approachable and offering their help with any questions. We needed to relax and it was nice and quiet. Rained a few days so we did jig saw puzzles and read. Just what we needed. But their is plenty of room for large families. Flat cul-de-sac for safe and easy bike riding and walking. The only problem I have is the stairs as I have had knee surgery. But I think all the houses have them.
