About Kathy Rose

We are working professionals who are extremely busy with work, families, and friends. When the weekends roll around, we head up to our favorite lake 'up-north.' When we are not entertaining, we love to take advantage of the lake as we canoe, kayak, and boat.

Kathy Rose purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Kathy Rose chose Northern Michigan

Our family has been retreating to Harper Lake for the past 30 years. We have found Harper Lake to be one of the most relaxing places to unwind and de-stress after a busy workweek. Nothing beats the soothing nature of being on the water and the tranquility of star-gazing away from city lights. In August, the aurora borealis display is awesome! We bought our cottage because it is an easy drive from home and the perfect getaway from the busyness of our normal lives.

What makes this cottage unique

The wooded setting with the private lake frontage creates a beautiful view no matter what window we look out. Our most favorite ritual is going for a walk around the lake each morning sipping our favorite coffee. We love this location because it is surrounded by national forest and recreation areas - all of which are beautiful places to hike and walk.

Lovely, private, charming fall getaway

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our September getaway to White Pines Cottage! The Owners provided everything needed in this comfortable cottage (bring own linens), the setting is quiet, private, very relaxing. Morning coffee and evening wine on the deck overlooking Harper Lake, a hint of fall in the leaves, campfires at the shore...just the ticket for calming the soul! Many nice amenities: paddle boat, gas grill, comfortable beds, canoe, well stocked kitchen. A return trip is in the future! Thank you Kathy for quick responses to emails too, your sincere dedication to the comforts of your guests is appreciated

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to this area of Michigan and we loved it. The cottage was clean, spacious, and had all of the amenities that we needed. Such a relaxing and peaceful setting. We really enjoyed the lake, paddle boat and canoe, swimming float, deck, etc. Close enough to Lake Michigan that we could take several day trips to the shore and Sleeping Bear dunes. The Dublin General Store is a must see...great fudge, jerky, and produce. Will definitely stay again in the future! Would love to see this setting in the Fall.

Where do you live?

Decent for the money.

The cabin was in good shape. The kitchen had most common cooking items as well as a coffee maker and toaster. my only issue with cleanliness was the cabinets showed signs of animal droppings or bug droppings.the beds were comfortable and the provided linens were nice. I had one problem with the electricity and called the phone number for the provided handyman. The issue was quickly dealt with and resolved.

Autumn smiles

We've been coming to the Irons area for many years, and our most enjoyable stays have been at White Pines Cottage, which we only discovered last year. All the positive comments left by others are true, and I can't say it any better than they have. The Fall colors this year were spectacular, and every color possible was visible from every window of the cottage. My tips would be: be sure to go to the Dublin General Store and Dublin Fudge store across the street (in Wellston, only about 10 minutes away). Great place to pick up any supplies, food or merchandise, that you can enjoy during your stay. The fudge store not only has great fudge and candies, but also many coffees as well. There's nothing like that smell of fresh brewed coffee in your kitchen to start your day in such a beautiful area. Oak Grove Tavern is our favorite place to go in the evenings, especially on Tuesday night to enjoy the wonderful local talent on stage. Na-Tah-Ka on Big Bass Lake in Irons is another favorite.....great food & service, plus the gas station/store next door is great for picking up whatever you realize you forgot to pack. The locals are all friendly and helpful. Many thanks to Kathy and Roger for making this all possible for so many of us. The clean cottage and all the amenities, including the use of their boats and outdoor gear make this an exceptional experience for us. Also, the care and detail of the whole reservation process from start to finish is so personal that you feel as if you are dealing with people you have known for years. Thank you for all of the special touches. We can hardly wait for our next visit!

Charming Cottage in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at White Pines Cottage. The cottage is more charming than the pictures reflect. Campfire by the water, dinner on the deck - very relaxing. Cabin is accurately described - it has a downstairs bedroom with a door and the upstairs sleeping area is a loft - open on one side to look down on the living/dining area. If traveling with a baby, consider bringing a baby gate for the bottom of the stairs. Pack and play doesn't fit in downstairs bedroom but can be tucked snugly between 2 beds in loft. Kitchen is well stocked. Extra plastic chairs on porch can be brought to dining table if needed. We cooked in all meals but one. Lake is not huge but fun for canoeing and paddle boating. Life jackets provided. Roger and Kathy very helpful. We drove to Empire Beach (beautiful!), Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Traverse City (we love Blue Tractor pizza). Not a lot of activities super-close to cabin - expect to drive a ways to them - but cabin is a nice and quiet retreat. Bring your favorite board games and books for relaxing. Thank you, Roger and Kathy, for sharing your charming cottage with us - a very nice, clean, affordable place for a family vacation.

Owner's Response: We enjoy sharing our cottage with you! We are going to have to look up Blue Tractor Pizza in Traverse City. :-) Next year, in addition to the canoe and paddleboat, we plan to have a stand-up paddle board available. Come back and try it on Harper Lake!
