Sunny beach-view house with up to 10 Bedrooms and 5 bathrooms

Our beach house has two porches and small garden. A barbecue to enjoy outdoor grilling as well as a well appointed kitchen.

The main house has 9 bedrooms and 4 baths to sleeps 16. The optional owner's apartment can be arranged to house additional guests in fully separate living space. All accommodations have AC.

BR#1 - 2nd floor - King bed, french door access to 2nd porch, full bath, ceiling fan equipped.

BR#2- 2nd floor - 2 twins, ceiling fan.

BR#3- 2nd floor - twin, ceiling fan.

BR#4- 3rd floor - Queen bed, ceiling fan, sink.

BR#5- 3rd floor - 2 twins, ceiling fan, sink.

BR#6- 3rd floor - full size bed, writing desk, ceiling fan, sink.

BR#7- 3rd floor - twin, ceiling fan.

The Chelsea offers a fully equipped kitchen for 'at home' convenience, two porches to relax, central air, and walking distance to shops, restaurants, cafes, ice cream, and our front door is only yards to the beach.

Guests of our Chelsea House can enjoy the ocean, tennis and bocci courts, 3 playgrounds, 2 miniature golf locations and a hundred restaurants within walking distance. Also available are several ice cream parlors, antique and gift shops and so many cafes.

Two local convenience stores offers quick pickups, and several full size grocers are within a few miles. For the Shopper, we have 2 name-brand outlet malls in driving distance. For day of adventure, only a 30 mins. drive to Six Flags Great Adventure.

We are easy access to both buses and trains to NYC.

We stopped into Ocean Grove for dinner one evening and fell in love with the town and the rest is history. The charming village atmosphere keeps Ocean Grove a quiet place for families to enjoy without the noisy beat of the young drinking crowds of other beach towns. Life is simple here, good food, friends and sunsets after days spent enjoying the beach, and strolling the boardwalk. Barbecue or walk to the MANY nearby restaurants. Friday and Saturday Night Performances offer music for all genres at the Pavilion and The Great Auditorium. Or stroll to Bradley Beach for the activities at the gazebo. Take a folding chair to the beach for the Friday night movies at the fishing pier or listen to the performances from the lawn at the The Great Auditorium. During Summer, make sure to stroll through the Tents that make Ocean Grove unique. And If you can, catch the Summer House tour which provides access to 8 or 10 houses or tents on a walking tour. If nothing else, enjoy the sun and the sand. Take a picnic basket or run home, we are only a few houses away from the beach, so you don't have to purchase meals at the snack bar.

The Chelsea is steps from the beach, and 2 blocks to Main Street shops, Ice cream parlors and Restaurants and Live Performances at The Great Auditorium. The board walk offers a beautiful ocean front walk South to Spring Lake and North through Asbury Park's Renovated Ocean Front up to LongBranch. Stop into the Stone Pony to see who’s there. Main Street offers something for everyone: plants, books, antiques, gifts, cheese, jewelry, bakeries, candy and coffee shops to enjoy.

It was a wonderful for this purpose We were close to the ocean and yet far enough away to have a feeling of privacy. We loved sitting in the front porch where we could see the ocean and tell family stories. The large modern kitchen was wonderful. The long table in the dining area waIs great for meals and games. The beds were very comfortable. It was helpful to have bedding supplied and large washing machines and dryers. We would recommend it for large family groups.

Love The Chelsea

This house is a fabulous blend of old world charm with modern amenities. Sitting on the porch in the evening with the ocean a stones throw away and wonderful breezes warming the soul and keeping the margaritas chilled. The entire family loved this place, within a few hundred feet of the beach and just a few blocks from shopping and dining. Ocean Grove is a delightful town and all the people are so friendly. We had 16 family members in the house comfortably. The owners were a pleasure to deal with. We will be having our family getaways at The Chelsea for years to come. Cheers!!!

Versatile spot for family vacation or girls weekend etc.

We rented this home fir a week in the summer with 2 families. Great location....a very short walk to the beach, very family oriented and a nice safe "residential" feel. Lots of restaurants and local shops to tour and visit. The house was well kept up and clean. The owners were easy to deal with and happy to help if any problems arose....there were none, however. It was affordable, convenient and we had a great time at this home "away from home". The beach was lively and so close we could go back and forth to house as needed to accomodate kids of all ages of kids and their varied requests/needs. Town was within bike and walking distance which made outings fun. Great weather made for a perfect trip!

The bad greatly outweighed the good

If location was the only criteria in grading a beach house then this one would have gotten an A. However, after a week I can say that there are things that out weigh location. I have rented in Ocean Grove for many years with never a bad experience. I did read all of the reviews so I will say that I went in with my eyes open.

It all started the moment we walked in the front door and were hit with the heat and the damp musty smell. I figured maybe the house had been closed up for too long and proceeded to try to get the A/C going. I followed the detailed instructions left by the owners as to their RULES for the A/C. After several hours the house still would not cool down so I contacted the owner. That evening the owner explained that there is a lock on the A/C and that her husband, who was out of the country was the only one with the code. We opened windows and made the best of the 1st night without A/C. On day 2 the code was still not available and I explained this was not acceptable. It was too hot to sleep. We were forced to go a 2nd night without air. The A/C repairman arrived on the morning of day 3 to replace 2 blown transformers & unlock the system.

A few days later we were invaded by ants. I requested pest control. When they showed up I was told they were not authorized to do anything but inspect. The owner later came to do her own version of pest control with cottonballs, poison and bottle caps. We also received a visit from the gas Co to turn off service due to lack of payment. Thankfully this was avoided or we wouldn’t have had any way to cook. Altogether I spent way too much of my vacation time trying to solve someone else's problems!

The contract states that all linens must be laundered by check out. When I asked how I was to wash & dry bedding for 19 in a few hours I was instructed to run 3 large loads on “quick wash”. The thought of sleeping on sheets that a stranger slept on for a week with only a quick wash is unpleasant.

Overall I feel that these owners don’t understand how rentals work and don’t really want to be renting their home. When someone pays good money to stay in a home they expect to be able to run the A/C how they want it. They expect that if problems occur they will be dealt with quickly and professionally. They expect to be able to enjoy their vacation and not have to be stuck in the house waiting for A/C repairmen, pest control or convincing someone not to turn the utilities off.

Owner's Response: Dear prospective renters, What this renter doesn't say in her review is that we immediately had an A/C specialist come check out central A/C, INSTALL a brand new UNLOCKED thermostat. The second time I was called and told there were ants everywhere. She said that I should refund half of her rental fee, And I didn't delay and immediately drove to the Chelsea. We had an invasion the previous year and had JUST had the exterminators in the day before her arrival, so I arrived an hour after her call, in fear that we would need to do the extermination again. She had said they were everywhere. She seemed shocked that I arrived in person. What I found were two dead ants and the entire kitchen island covered in open food, bread crumbs, and various stages of food left strewn on counters. (In retrospect, l probably should NOT have suggested she clean up the ant-party-here-invitations left everywhere to prevent future invasion.). In fairness, she did show me two dead ants, so I had the exterminator come immediately (I had called him before I headed to the Chelsea.) I did also advise I was more than happy to have the exterminator drop by as often as would make her comfortable, if she saw any live insects. He did not receive any calls.

Nice location, but dirty and bad smelling house

I agree with the review just prior to mine and second their assessment: the location was fantastic, but the house was not.

On the pro side - the owner was flexible with the length of our reservation. We were not able to stay for the required whole week, so she allowed us to stay for 4 days. She also allowed us to come down a day early since there was no one booked before us and it was open, which I thought was setting a great tone for the trip.

When we pulled up to the house, there were dead plants and frayed flags in the hanging planters - which we took down and moved to the side of the house. There were ants everywhere, including the bedrooms. Additionally, the stench of mothballs was overwhelming on the first and second floors and the basement apartment was very musty. We spent the first hour opening windows to air everything out. The kitchen was poorly equipped - several pots, but only one small frying pan and another with no handle for a house that can sleep 15.

The owner didn't tell us that the boardwalk was still closed (it opened the weekend after we left).

While Ocean Grove is a beautiful small town, the whole experience with the cleanliness of the house, and my subsequent issue getting my full security deposit back (she kept $100 for a torn blind), left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Owner Ruined The Experience

To be fair, I had an okay 4th of July weekend at this house, but the Owner's ridiculous excuses for refusing to return our deposit money left a bad aftertaste on our trip there. Nevertheless, I will list both the Pros and the Cons of renting this beach house so the next renters will know what they are getting into.

Pros: It is very conveniently located right next to the beach. Nice kitchen and living room area, as well as a good place to BBQ on the porch.

Cons: ANTS EVERYWHERE. Owner has to call in the exterminator or something, it was not a good feeling sitting on the couch watching TV and then feeling stuff crawl over your legs. The description about the size of the beds in the Bedrooms was also misleading. Mine was supposed to be a Queens Size bed, but it was definitely just a Full-Size. Plus all the sheets are old and starting to grow little lumpy stuff on them, SO I RECOMMEND YOU BRING YOUR OWN SHEETS (doubly good advice, which I will explain later). Second-floor bathroom has no shower. My guy had to basically go old-school and wipe himself down with a bucket of water in the tub.

Honestly, I was still okay with all this since it was close to the beach, I had a bed to sleep on, and I had good company. But Owner's excuses were what put an okay experience into, Never Coming Back.

Owner's Excuses: Owner demanded we wash all our sheets before we were kicked out at 11AM. There were 14 of us, and it is not like we could get a head start on the laundry because we still had to SLEEP ON THEM until we woke up. So we did the best we could and left them drying in the dryer. But owner's excuse for not returning our deposit money is because we didn't fold up the sheets (hello, that was how we found them from the last renter, in the dryer, they probably had the same problem). Owner's other excuse is that we didn't sweep up every little crumb off the floor (well that is why you made us pay for cleaning service too, isn't that their job?). The Deposit money is to reimburse the owner in case of damage to the property, not for Owner to keep on the pretense of a linen dispute. Owner is currently dodging our phone calls about returning the deposit money.

All I can say now is, renter beware. And I hope this review helps the next person who comes along.
