|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Located near the tip of Barter's Point, this charming cottage has filtered views of the harbor and offshore islands. It is only a 2 minute stroll to our shorefront access where kayaks or other watercraft can be launched. The cottage has three bedrooms:one with a queen-sized bed, and two with full size beds. There is an eat-in kitchen,a new full bath with a tub/shower(renovated in 2015) and a fire-placed living room. Enjoy beautiful Maine summer days from the sunny deck which is outfitted with comfortable adirondack chairs, or dine outside at the picnic table.
The cottage is equipped with broadband internet, Cable TV, a DVD player with a collection of DVDs, and a telephone with local service. For those early spring and late autumn days, there is also central heat. The weathered gray cottage is a great place to enjoy the simple pleasures of Mid-Coast Maine.
Things to do:
Kayak out of the cove and 'hug' the coastline or explore the waters around the offshore islands before heading into the harbor that is dotted with lobster boats and yachts during the summer months. Stop at the public landing and pick up a snack at the general store before continuing on your way.
Would you rather take a scenic stroll or go for a short drive? Head toward the village and enjoy the water view along the way. Smell the salt air. Drop by the bakery for a breakfast croissant. Pick up a book to read at Jackson Memorial Library which also has WiFi. Continue on to Granite Gardens for a cup of coffee in a peaceful setting. A rustic or refined lunch or dinner can be had in either local restaurants or in those a short drive away.
Do you want to go to the beach?
Drift-In Beach is a beautiful sandy beach at low tide. It is located on the road to Port Clyde ~ 4 miles away. Bring the kids. Take a picnic lunch. Have a great day!
Are you interested in other other activities?
Tour Marshall Point Lighthouse a few miles down the road in Port Clyde. Or, go up to Rockland. There, you can walk up to the lighthouse at Owl's Head. Then walk out to the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater in Rockland Harbor. There are photo opportunities everywhere. Go on to Rockport, and Camden. Drive, climb or mountain bike to the top of Mt. Battie. Delight in the view of Camden and the offshore islands. Picnic areas are located at the base of the mountain. Browse the shops as you walk around Camden Village or purchase a 2-4 hour cruise of Penobscot Bay on one of the schooners located in Camden Harbor.
Another great daytrip is to book passage on the ferry from Port Clyde for a trip to Monhegan Island. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy the scenic views as you hike around the island before returning the same day.
A multiplex movie theater is located in Thomaston. A public golf course is located in Rockland. Enjoy shopping, antiquing and visiting the art galleries and museums in the surrounding areas.
You can either dine in or dine out on fresh Maine seafood. After dinner, relax on the cottage deck and enjoy the onshore breeze as you watch the sun set, or sit in front of a crackling fire and read a good book, play a board game,or plan your activities for the next day.
Born and bred on the East Coast I never tire of returning to my 'roots'. My summer and fall destination is ALWAYS Maine. My grandfather was from Tenants Harbor. My father returned to the "Harbor" and bought property on Barter's Point and built cottages for his family to enjoy. Our family spent several weeks each summer enjoying the quiet beauty of the area. Now, my own children and grandchildren return to Maine, taking time off from their busy lives to enjoy a place that is very special to us all!
The cottage is within walking distance of the village. We have shoreline access just 2 minutes away!
We have had a wonderful time at your cottage and in Tenants Harbor- what a beautiful place. The cottage has been perfect for us, so clean, nicely furnished, kitchen well stocked. Thank you! Caroline S. from PA
My husband and I rented the cottage for a long weekend and to celebrate his birthday. I loved being able to walk to the General Store, harbor, Schoolhouse Bakery, and East Wind Inn. We enjoyed the front porch very much, watching the lobster boats come and go. Remodeled bathroom was great, also the bed was very comfortable. You can hear the ocean from the bedroom! The kitchen had everything we needed and we did a bit of cooking while we were there. The cottage was clean and I really liked the seaside decor. We are hoping to come back in the Spring. Thanks to Deb and Linda for sharing their great location with us and making our trip so easy.
Just got back from our stay at the Weathered Gray Cottage. What a great spot! My wife and I have an eight-month-old baby, so we're beholden to feeding and nap schedules. Serious excursions from the cottage up and down the coast were not an option. That was fine. We enjoyed cooking out and eating at the picnic table, strolling to town with our dog, having a glass of wine or a cup of coffee on the wonderful porch. We lived outside the whole week. I think my posterior wore a groove in the porch rocker. Our golden retriever didn't want to come back to the city. The cottage is not directly on the water but you can see the harbor through breaks in the trees and the yard and porch get plenty of sun when you want it. At night all you hear is the wind in the leaves, the slop of water, and the muffled bong of a bell on a buoy out in the harbor. Perfect. I also appreciated the little touches that made for a pleasant stay—the ceiling fan for keeping things airy, the bookcase full of vacation reads, the kitchen knives that were actually sharp (we cooked a lot), and the comfortable cushions for the deck chairs. On top of all this comfort and convenience, we found the owners responsive and pleasant and the experience to be an excellent value generally. I should also mention that, for a place that accepts dogs and children (like ours), the house was spotless when we arrived. The cottage is smallish and somewhat old-fashioned (small bedrooms, wood paneling, older bathroom). Large parties looking for lots of individual privacy or those looking for ultra-modern, luxe accommodations may be disappointed but they certainly should not feel misled. It's an old cottage. That's the way they were made. The cottage is clean, well maintained, nicely decorated, and reasonably priced. We found it to be better than advertised and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Weathered Gray Cottage recalled the best parts of our childhood vacations to Cape Cod only it is much better appointed. The location is also a plus. It's a very short drive to Port Clyde and pretty close to Rockland as well. If you go, you MUST try Waterman's Beach Lobster and Dorman's Dairy Dream in Thomaston (both are close and worth traveling to Maine to patronize). I'm recommending the Weathered Gray Cottage to the rest of our family and I think we'll stay there again in the future. Thanks to the owners for a memorable and restorative vacation
The kitchen has everything you can imagine, lots of odd things like a wine bottle cork to skinny picks for lobster. It also has every pot or pan you could need. The tv & DVD player worked well for my grandson when he needed to calm down before bed. Porch is great and walking across the street to throw rocks was convenient with the 7 year old.
This is our 2nd summer renting the Weathered Gray Cottage and we will be back next year. We like that it is located within walking distance of the little town of Tenants Harbor and that walk there is beautiful. The cottage is well stocked and comfortable. We did not want for anything and the owners are easy to work with. It is beginning to feel like home!
The cottage was well-stocked, comfortable and conveniently-located. The owners were easy to communicate with. We look forward to renting the Weathered Cottage again in the future.
Great Place! Good cookware, good beds. Clean. Owner very cooperative.
Walked to general store, bakery, fish market, restaurants, library. Fireplace worked well on cool nights. Our yellow lab loved the deck. Quiet area.
Access to the waterfront where a kayak or other small watercraft can be launched.
