About Allison Massey

I grew up in the Midwest and was delighted to find a place to cross-country ski where the winter was sunny and bright and not bitter cold. After moving to Austin, TX., Taos was a welcome relief from the hot summers.

Allison Massey purchased this house in 2006

Why Allison Massey chose New Mexico

As some of the early artists who made their way to Taos remarked, it's the incredible light. La Loma Plaza is a very unique location tucked away in town of Taos. The seasons in all have a special beauty.

What makes this house unique

Most of the gorgeous furniture was hand painted by local artist, Jim Wagner.

the adobe walls keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The front portal is a pleasant place to sit outside and enjoy the changing light of the day.

Unique, comfortable, pet-friendly, historic

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 4 days in this unique, comfortable, historic adobe home. The inside is a work of art...really, painted by a local artist. The bed is comfortable. Located on an historic plaza, the house is in a quiet neighborhood, has convenient parking, with a walled-in patio area secured by a charming wooden gate. The Taos plaza and restaurants are only minutes away.

Will stay here again.

Totally charming and close to plaza

  • 5 of 5

You just don't find places this cute often! The pictures are very realistic. It's a super easy walk to the Plaza, is quiet and well equipped. (A microwave really isn't necessary when you get so relaxed!) Plus great beds and pillows!

We loved it.

An Amazing House for an Amazing Stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends from Scotland and I enjoyed an Amazing week in this colorful hacienda. From enjoying a morning cup of coffee on the veranda to counting the stars at night, this home was welcoming and comfortable and a short walk into downtown Taos. A perfect place for my out of town friends and I to experience the wonders and beauty of the Southwest!

A unique and whimsical location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience in renting a property for a holiday stay. We enjoyed it more than we expected. The property is unique in design and decor--very colorful. If you have any experience with old adobe dwellings, you understand the rustic quality. This is a wonderful old adobe with sections dating from around the 18th Century. Expect uneven floors, thick walls, double windows and lots of birds--both in the artwork and, literally, next door where the neighbor keeps pigeons. It was cold and rainy our first couple of days there but the thick adobe walls held in the heat from the climate control system to make everything comfortable. Our dog enjoyed the courtyard and looking for cats through the heart-shaped cutouts in the gate. Flowers were beginning to bloom and the sweet smell of lilacs was in the air every morning. La Loma Plaza is off the main pathways of Taos and this plus the thick adobe construction made for a quiet and peaceful stay. Once the weather improved, it got warmer outside but stayed comfortable inside. We sat on the portal and had wine in the evenings while watching our dog inspect the nooks and crannies of the courtyard. The house had every convenience including a nice TV with DirecTV hookup, Bose Acoustic Wave player with hook up for an iPhone, lots of regional books and a few CDs and DVDs. The kitchen was large and fully equipped. We intended to grill a steak but, when we dumped out the ashes in the small Weber, we discovered someone had tossed out the grate for the charcoal. So we used one of the cast iron skillets to cook it on the was delicious. The beds were comfortable with nice mattresses and linens. The bathroom was also very well furnished although the light level was on the low side.

The location is very near Taos Plaza and several museums. We've been to Taos a few times in the past so we didn't really take advantage of all the area has to offer on this trip. There was a festival and a farmer's market going on while we were there and we enjoyed those. The streets in town are quiet narrow and busy and sidewalks are skimpy to non existent in some places so be careful walking. There are many excellent restaurants in town and prices are not bad at all. We had some of the best sandwiches ever at the Bent Street Cafe--especially the Reuben. Also special mention to the Alley Cantina. Both are dog friendly.

We absolutely would recommend this property. A fine experience all around.
