The Prins & Brouwer was launched on March 8, 2003. It's hull design is that of a classic River barge from the 1920s so it blends in well with the 17th century surroundings of the canal it is moored on. Along the Canal you will find 17th century old warehouses, which by now have all been restored and converted to comfortable homes. It is a spectacular view to wake up to, each morning. The classic exterior of the ship is somewhat deceiving which you will realize when you enter our home, and experience the remarkable spacious interior. Succesfull Dutch architect, Maurice van Bakel has a keen eye for aesthetics in combination with optimization of available space.
Space & Light: We had three wishes: space, plenty of natural light, in a contemporary yet Cozy design.
The result is astonishing. It is said that the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. I myself am 6ft, 4'' (1.93mtr) tall but the rooms never feel cramped. The hull design has been enlarged from its original 1927 drawings to create higher ceilings and more space. The interior design lines are clean and playful, allowing an open flow from one room to the next. This ship is in the first place our own home, so we certainly did not compromise on quality. We have used only the best materials in the construction and fittings which resulted in a convenient, cozy and well appointed beautiful house. With it's different levels you can always find a room or space to be on your own. If you feel like it, perhaps in the lounge to watch a movie on the Loewe flat screen in full Bose surround sound or maybe upstairs in the Den with a good book and a glass of wine.
Comfort: Our favorite place to be however is outside on the large 600 sq ft/60 mtr2 deck. At the large outside table you can enjoy your dinner with many friends. Perhaps Barbeque yourself a nice meal and enjoy all the little boats and people passing by which provide extra entertainment and the occasional friendly comment on your nice abode.
In the spring and summer various canal festivals make their way past our home providing fun entertainment.
Our home is not only a great place to enjoy during spring and summer, it is an equally pleasant stay during Fall and Winter. The climate control system provides both heating as well as air conditioning to keep you comfortable no matter what weather it is outside. Christmas and New years are a great time to enjoy our home as well.
We'll provide a 'real' Christmas tree, and if you are lucky you will also catch the traditional Christmas boat parade with each boat carrying a choir singing Christmas Carrols (December 23rd).
Neighbourhood: The ship is located conveniently near grocery shopping, trendy restaurants, boutiques and fresh markets. All this, within one to five minutes walking distance. The Wednesday and Saturday morning fresh markets across the Canal are truly superb. A great variety of Dutch flowers can be found at a steal and you?ll find the best fresh produce right there on your doorstep.Public transportation is nearby, you can hop on a bus right along the canal or walk to the Central train station in less than ten minutes. If you have a car you can reach the highway in about ten minutes also. The best way to get around, however, is by ?Rent a bike?. You can rent one nearby on our canal.

I recommend this houseboat without hesitation! It's exactly as it appears in the photos. Very clean, contemporary and well designed. Priced appropriately. The location is in close walking distance from key attractions and local cafes. Rene was on time to greet us, friendly, and provided excellent background information. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for a few more days!
This houseboat is one of the best places we've stayed on vacation. We weren't sure about straying from the normal apartment/house VRBO concept but we were so glad we did. The houseboat was in a perfect location-close to everything we needed but away from a lot of the crowds and noise. It is 15 minutes walking distance of Central Station and even closer to bike rentals and so we had no trouble getting around to anywhere that we wanted to go. The houseboat is so spacious and was more than enough room for our family of four. Our favorite areas were the picnic table outside, the lounging area in the top section of the boat and the movie room downstairs. The kitchen has any amenity that you could want. We spent most evenings sitting at the picnic table watching the boats go by on the canal and then after dark we'd watch a family movie on Netflix in the downstairs TV room. It was truly beautiful and so relaxing. Renee was a great host, answered any questions we had and was available by phone if we needed anything. We would most definitely recommend this houseboat as a perfect vacation rental.
The houseboat was very contemporary, beautiful, and above all organized. Although it was quite large and spacious every square inch was utilized in a thoughtful functional way, much of it behind a smooth expanse of cabinets. There are two sitting areas very comfortably furnished, a well equipped kitchen, nice towels and bed linens. Everything was clean as a whistle. I was concerned that it might be too dark but the windows were ingenuously placed to capture a lot of natural light. I was also concerned the spot might be too noisy. There are a lot of people out and about but it quieted down nicely by about 10 pm and since the houseboat adjoins a street of nice apartments it had a good residential flavor. The location was excellent for the canal district, museums and shops. Our host Rene was quite helpful, had lots of good recommendations, and everything laid out in a comprehensive notebook. He arranged a canal tour for us in a rented boat which was super. We also really enjoyed a bike tour that started just a few blocks away. This was our first visit to Amsterdam and this houseboat experience turned out to be a fabulous way to experience it from the Dutch perspective. Our thanks to all concerned.
Our family of 6, my wife and I and our 4 children (ages 10-17) stayed for a week and could not have been happier.
Rene’ was waiting to greet us as we arrived. The houseboat is beautifully done and exactly as depicted in the pictures. It actually is very spacious, much more than we imagined. There were fresh flowers on the table and the kitchen was stocked with many staples, olive oil, etc. The location could not be better, only a short walk from central station. It's one of the most picturesque areas of the canal, we even found post cards that were pictures of that corner of the canal.
There are two grocery stores and a bakery within a block and many restaurants. We ate every breakfast and supper on the picnic table on the deck watching everyone bike to work and home again along with all the canal traffic. We thought about going out to eat, but the best seat in town is the picnic table on the deck of the boat. We would absolutely rent again
My family of four loved the gentle rocking of this state of the art canal boat. The location is ideal, the interior very modern and spacious and the fact that it's on the water makes it a perfect base for exploring Amsterdam. I only wish I could have driven it around.
We rented the Prins & Brouwer for a wonderful 9 nights and thouroughly enjoyed it. Located at the intersection of the Prince's canal and the Brewer's canal,
we saw quite a bit of boat action as well as swans, seagulls, gallinules and grebes coming right up to the boat. 3 comfortable bedrooms (one with a bunk bed)
an easy galley, 2 bathrooms and a great area upstairs to hang out in the morning, and an outside deck with a picnic table perfect for meals or drinks.
An Albert Hein grocery store is around the corner as well as a bread and cheese shop---lots of good places to eat close by---check out the Roseryn Eetcafe and get the special of the night!
Great bar across the canal with "The best apple pie in Amsterdam" (tripadvisor)
Rene was a good host and I would definitely rent this boat next time we go to Amsterdam.
Our home is located in the Jordaan, a quaint neighborhood in the city of Amsterdam. It is conveniently located near fresh markets, restaurants, bars, boutiques, museums, public transportation and the Central Train Station.
