I absolutely loved my stay at Joan's. It was an extended one, so I had lots of opportunity to tuck into the cozy space, open up the skylights on those sunny day, and take frequent two block walks to explore the bustling and creative shopping street -- Solano Avenue. When I got on the plane home, I wanted to turn around and go right back.
Neat, quiet, well equipped, very good location. Definitely a place we will return to when visiting Berkeley.
Comfortable for us. Well designed and thoughtful about use of small space. Easy walk to Solano. Comfortable furniture and bed. We will be back.
The Cottage is a very comfortable, self contained, well thought out, conversion of a detached garage. It is beautifully decorated with modern, well functioning, appliances. The bed was very comfortable, as was the feel of the entire cottage. We had considerable rain during our stay, but I still enjoyed the beautiful gardens. Joan was kind, accomodating and the right amount of helpful. We met upon our arrival, and did not see her again during our stay. This area of Berkeley was a perfect area to stay; a short & cheap uber to downtown Berkeley; a short walk to the Solano district; a 10 minute walk to the N Berkeley Bart. Will definitely return.
The studio was an absolute delight. It's a great location, in walking distance to Solano Ave and its great restaurants and coffee shops. We were visiting family in El Cerrito, and the location was perfect, but it is also an easy drive to great places like the Monterey Market and the Berkeley campus. The studio itself is beautiful: a lovely outside sitting area, and open and light space inside. Even though it is essentially just one room, you never feel it that way; there is a sleeping area, a sitting area, and an eating area, and somehow, the design is such that you really feel the different spaces. We loved it and will definitely stay again next time we are in Berkeley. A great find!
I Loved this nicely decorated sweet cottage just 1.5 blocks from Solano avenue in a lovely neighborhood. My hostess Joan was very response to any questions I had. I especially loved the large hot shower at the end of a long day. It was exactly what I was looking for. I hope to stay next time I come to Berkeley.
Berkeley sits across the bay from San Francisco which is easily accessible by car, bus, BART or ferry. Just to the north is the beautiful Napa Valley with is world class wineries, to the east are Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National park for hiking, skiing and camping and to the south lie the Monterey Bay with its wonderful aquarium and Carmel. In the San Francisco Bay there is boating, fishing and windsurfing. Marin county, to the north-east has great hiking trails and beaches.
Other Activities: dancing, opera, symphony, film festivals, rock climbing
Golf: Golf is enjoyed in Tilden Park, a fifteen minute drive from the cottage.
