Our family of five loved our stay at this charming old cottage.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is the perfect location to enjoy both mission bay and mission beach. Our daughters enjoyed digging for shells each morning and my husband and I enjoyed watching them from the patio with our coffees. This cottage is vintage and has a lot of character. We appreciate the clean property and the generous lot size and plan to stay again!

Perfect place for a young family!

  • 5 of 5

We liked the look of this place from the moment we saw it on VRBO. A true beach cottage in an excellent location. The booking process was smooth and we had all the information we needed to find and access the property. We found it to be clean and well equipped with everything from kitchen supplies to towels to beach toys and gear. Our kids loved the bunkbeds and the master room bed was very comfortable. We felt very much at home at this property. The laundry is conveniently located in the garage, where we also found beach chairs and ample space to park our rented bikes and bike trailer. The best part about this property is certainly the location and view. We loved opening the shades each morning and greeting the sunrise and fresh ocean air. The kids spent a lot of time playing in the spacious, fenced front yard and it is just a quick hop (remember to look both ways!) across the bayside walk to a grassy space and sandy beach. Paddle boarding and other boat rentals are just across the way on Santa Clara Point. Many playgrounds are a comfortable biking distance away and there is just so much to see and do in the area. Amazing coffee and people at Swell Cafe. They knew us and our order and were so friendly every morning. We biked up to La Jolla using the Oceanfront path and roads with designated bike routes. We did have a rental car and found it useful for sightseeing (Point Loma - very cool tide pools and amazing views, Little Italy for the market on Saturday etc.) but you could get by very easily just using bikes. All in all, we wish we could have stayed longer at this amazing beach cottage and we hope to return soon! So nice to stay somewhere clean and comfortable, that also has charm and character. Great spot for a family vacation!

Perfect Beach House

  • 4 of 5

I agree with much of what was said here ... and the location could not be better. Once we pulled in, we literally didn't get back in the car for anything. Olive Cafe offers the best ice cream around and I could have eaten at La Playa Taco every night! We have 2 boys under 4 and the white picket fence and location facing the Bay gave us great comfort. Plenty of water toys to use and Sea World fireworks at 8:50 PM every night. The "big beach" as the boys called it was an easy 2 block walk away and we made it there every day. It is a funky old beach house with loads of quirks but who needs high end, fancy schmancy when you spend all day at the beach every day. It's roomy and its all about location, location, location. I'd be sad if this became another ugly condo unit rather than a family home. We did have a few minor issues - ie, bulb change in security light - and I emailed the property managers who responded very quickly. We would definitely return to this property to spend some time on the patio watching the world go by and at the beach enjoying the sand and surf!

Amazing Location and unique house

  • 5 of 5

My family truly enjoyed our 3 day vacation at this property. It is a unique property with lots of nooks and unexpected surprises. The property was very clean and has the perfect patio for entertaining. We met lots of friendly people as they strolled, biked or roller bladed by. I would recommend this property for anyone wanting to experience the San Diego beach life. Once you park your car you never have to drive it again as there are stores, restaurants, and fun things to do within walking distance. Lots of beach toys and chairs come with the property.

Cute and Quirky

  • 4 of 5

First of all, we totally enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect-just blocks from restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc...We popped up to Garnet Ave to the Trader Joes there and then checked out some of the fun and unusual stores in that neighborhood. It was a 5 minute drive to Sea World. We were able to watch their NYE fireworks from the front step of the cottage. And, a nice sandy beach right out the front door with great sand toys already in the garage. We also crossed Mission Blvd and walked along the Pacific beach a few times. The Zoo, La Jolla and Old Town all quick drives. We had dinner at Saska's on Mission Blvd. one night on the recommendation from the book provided and it was wonderful.

As for the cottage, I will grant you it has it's quirks, but still very hospitable. The living/dining room area is nice and spacious. The master bedroom is just big enough. Our girls loved their room with the bunk bed. Yes, the Water Closet is separate from the rest of the bathroom, but it made it easier for us to get ready each day. The kitchen is stocked well enough to prepare the few meals we had there. The outside patio is quite large and perfect for coffee or a cocktail and people watching.

If I were to criticize at all, I would say time to ditch the blinds and get some nice shades from Ikea. They would be so much easier to use and even give more of a "beach" feel to the cottage. Also, that poor kitchen has been painted over enough. Might be time for some updates. Does not have to be fancy, but drawers that open and close would be nice.

Overall, we loved our stay here and would come back.
