Hawthorne House of Newport is located in the city's south end (Fifth Ward). The private three-room suite offers the convenience and comfort of home. Your privacy is assured as we accept only one booking at a time - in other words, you are our only guests. Nicely furnished and equipped, the suite includes a private deck with gas grill, well-supplied kitchenette, both high speed or wi-fi Internet access, a queen-bedroom and a separate living/dining room with queen sofa bed. The bath (with jetted tub) is accessed from the hallway between the living room and bedroom. Due to the privacy of this suite, we are happy to welcome children. They will be delighted to find a nearby playground and family beach - as well as a large back yard perfect for running and playing. This home is accessible for most wheelchairs - please ask us for specifics. Well-behaved pets allowed - please ask for our 'Pet Policy'.

Equipped with many thoughtful conveniences, your suite includes a private entrance and off- street parking. Oh, did we mention your helpful hosts? Feel free to ask us for shopping, dining, or sightseeing suggestions. As native Newporters, we are well acquainted with our famous hometown and its surrounding areas.

We are located in a quiet residential area (known as 'Fifth Ward') within walking distance to central downtown (1.2 miles) , a local family beach (0.7 miles), Salve Regina campus (0.5 miles), and Breakers Mansion on the Cliff Walk (0.9 miles). We are 1.3 miles from Fort Adams State Park.

Wheelchair / Other Mobility Needs: For most guests with mobility needs (walkers, canes, standard-sized manual wheelchairs, etc.) or for those who can easily stand and pivot to transfer, this suite should prove accommodating. May not be suitable for power wheelchair users - please call us for specifics. We are, of course, happy to move (or remove) furnishings or scatter rugs as per your requirements. Why Terri Fitch chose Newport

We are native 'Newporters' - and we both grew up in this same great neighborhood. Terri moved to New York after college, Mike joined the Air Force . . . but there is no place quite like Newport! We purchased this lot just before we were married and returned home to our families and our roots. We first lived in a three-family home on the other side of the park and began welcoming guests in 1996. Twenty-four years would pass before we were ready to build the current Hawthorne House . . .

What makes this apartment unique

. . . we designed Hawthorne House specifically with guests in mind. In fact, we asked our guests to tell us what they wanted - and we incorporated their suggestions into the design of the guest suite! Your suite is as private as you would wish. Or, if you are looking for sight-seeing or dining suggestions or if you would like to chat, we are happy to oblige! We look forward to welcoming you to Hawthorne House!

Great place to stay for a Newport weekend getaway!

Thank you to Mike & Terri Fitch for their wonderful accommodations and hospitality during our weekend getaway at Newport, RI. This is the perfect retreat for a couple or a couple with a child. It's a 1 bedroom but it has a queen-sized sleeper sofa that is actually comfortable! Great location! We really enjoyed ourselves! Admittedly we spent very little time at the suite as we were busy doing the many, many things there are to do around Newport, but we were thoroughly happy with the hospitality and accommodations when we DID spend time there. They even allowed us to bring our old-man dog, Toby! Would absolutely recommend it and will definitely stay there again when we visit Newport!

Great location

This place was wonderful. We were in Newport for a wedding and this was a perfect place for us to stay with our 2 children and our dog. Mike and Terri were so nice and were great at giving advice on where to eat and things to do and see in the area. It was a short walk to the beach and into the town. The place is very clean and has everything you need. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, juice, english muffins for the morning. We also enjoyed the banana bread and cookies baked by Terri.We are looking forward to our next visit.

All the comforts of home!

From the moment my husband, I and our two pups arrived we knew we picked the right home for our three month stay. We were stocked with fresh baked goodies, assorted cereals, milk, orange juice, water, tea, banana bread and treats for our puppies! The back yard was amazing our pups loved it. Mike works very hard on the yard and their beautiful garden. We loved being walking distance to the mansions, cliff walk, lower Thames shopping and so much more. There is a park directly across the street where our pups could socialize. Mike and Terri go out of their way to take care of their guests. We even had full use of their kitchen which was nice that we didn't have to eat out all the time. While we weren't there during the summer, there was still plenty to see and do plus we got to be there for the first part of spring and MAJOR winter sales in town, score!!! Terri and Mike provided the latest news for events in town and anything else we needed. We know we will be coming back to Newport and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else! We came there as strangers and left as part of the family.

Ps. They have an awesome deck to sit out on with your own grill!

Newport Gem

My husband, 11 year old daughter, and I visited Newport for the first time and stayed here. I can't say enough about Terri and Mike's service and hospitality. We felt like we were being taken care of by family. The space was spotless and just the right size for us with unexpected touches like baked goods and fruit upon arrival. We woke up to a peaceful breeze and birds chirping each morning. Mike provided beach towels and chairs and even drove us one evening to the local beach, so we had more time to enjoy the water. The location is ideal for all Newport has to offer. For us, Terri and Mike made it relaxing, fun, and a time to remember. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Excellent stay

The private suite is exactly as it appears in the photographs and exceptionally clean. Mike & Terri are excellent hosts dedicated to the the welfare of those visiting. We highly recommend a stay at the Hawthorne and look forward to many a return visit.
