Our Square's History: John Elger's Development, 1853–59
By the end of the 1840s building in Rutland Gate had petered out, but early in 1851 an agreement was drafted between Elizabeth Manners and John Elger, who had been developing the adjoining Kingston House estate since the mid-1840s, for completing the southern part of the street. However, it was not until 1853 that work got under way. Several houses were started in the autumn, and soon afterwards Elger bought the freehold of all the remaining vacant ground from the Manners family.
During the next six years the whole of southern Rutland Gate was built up by Elger , together with Rutland Mews East and West and a roadway linking Rutland Gate with his development on the Kingston House estate. It was presumably at this time that the high brick wall along the south side of Ennismore Street was built, shutting off Brompton Road and its northern hinterland from the exclusive culs-de-sac opposite Hyde Park.

the best knightsbridge flat you would want!
The property was located in such a beautiful area, so close to famous stores like Harrods etc. Convenient to get to for the tube and the bus.
The flat was so clean, tidy and modern. I really felt comfortable and safe there staying alone. It was renovated really nicely with a modern design. The lighting was really good too and the bed was comfortable. So many clean towels etc provided.
The property owner was an absolute gem! SO so friendly, gave me her WhatsApp if I had any concerns/issues, explained to me how everything worked in the flat. She also was very warm and chatty and made conversation which I liked!
overall would fully recommend staying here.
Great Base for London Stay
The apartment is perfectly located. It is just steps away from Harrods, the Victoria & Albert Museum, two tube stops, tons of restaurants and Hyde Park. But it is also on a super quiet street. The owner was very helpful with suggestions and anything we needed was taken care of quickly. The apartment is well equipped and very comfortable, including good lighting! We spent several days in the V&A (they have great free tours). The V&A café is very good, reasonably priced and the dining rooms are beautiful. We also ate twice at Casa Brindisa and Le Pain Quotidien. The Royal College of Music is also close by and has wonderful events.
Great cozy/quiet location in London
Absolutely perfect location in quite upscale residential neighborhood. Owner provided lots of recommendations based on our family. Convenient to restaurants and major attractions. Owner walked us around area pointing out the best places to go to (and places to avoid) and was very quick to respond to questions and concerns (the owner went way above and beyond, bringing our forgotten passports all the way to the train station as we headed to Paris). We would highly recommend staying at the property and should we get back to Paris, would definitely try to stay here again.
Perfect for a small family
This property's location cannot be beaten, and the hostess is wonderful at making you feel welcomed. She is very careful to be sure you have everything you need, and is great about following up if there are any questions or concerns (we didn't have any concerns though). I highly recommend this property.
Cosy apartment in a brilliant location
We have stayed here before, 6 years ago, and were thrilled to see it was available again for our stay in London. Perfect location for a stroll around Hyde Park, pop through the hole in the wall to Harrods and a short walk to Buckingham Palace.
Spring trip to London with my Kids, from USA
Location of the apartment was conveniently located in Knightsbridge. We shopped at Marks and Spencer each night for dinner and breakfast (a quick 10 minute walk) and caught the tube to all sites we wanted to see (another 10 minute walk). Hyde park was just across the street and we took advantage of renting bikes and playing soccer. Also, plenty of options for afternoon tea experiences. The host was gracious and made many recommendations. Her driver picked us up and brought us back (80 pounds round trip) to the airport and we paid him to take us on a day trip to Stonehenge, Bath, and Windsor. Well worth the 240 pounds to see all those things.
