Our street, which is under a jungle canopy, welcomes visitors with birds chirping, iguanas resting in the trees, and neighbors walking their dogs. It is friendly and inviting. Beautiful flowers and tropical foliage abound. We are just south of town and an easy 5 minute walk to the central plaza and all the shops and restaurants, the main beach and surf break. We are also close to a stunning jungle trail that winds out to Playa los Muertos, a quieter, more remote swimming beach. It is truly an ideal location. Private and quiet yet close to all the action. Our property is walled and gated, and offers a secure, peaceful spot to retreat at the end of your day.

An easy 5 minute scenic stroll down our cobblestone street will take you to the beach and village, where there are grocery stores and many good restaurants for every meal of the day, offering simple to gourmet, including American, Asian Fusion, Italian, French, and of course, delicious Mexican and seafood dishes. The shopping is awesome with unique jewelry, clothing, home décor, art galleries, and handmade items from all over Mexico. Spa treatments abound in several locations in town. And if you want some adventure during you stay there is surfing, fishing, horseback riding, ATVing, jungle hiking, and zip lining, all for which Sayulita is famous.

Nearby are many attractions for visitors. The quiet village of San Francisco (“San Pancho” to locals) is a fifteen minute taxi ride to the north. It has a beautiful, wide and long beach with few people and a large lagoon with many shorebirds coming and going. There are several good restaurants there. You can also take a bus or cab from Sayulita to the Punta Mita peninsula, where you can catch a sailing, whale watching, or fishing trip out of the beautiful marina.

A stay at Casa Colibri encompasses all Sayulita has to offer at a great value!

About Joan and Dave

Two years ago we quit our jobs and sold our home in San Diego to fulfill our dream of retirement in a Mexican seaside village.

We did our research, and decided Sayulita had all the qualities we were looking for. Authentic and quaint, yet lively and fun, a great surf break, stunning natural beauty, and a very friendly, safe community of locals and expats.

Joan and Dave purchased this villa in 2013

Why Joan and Dave chose Sayulita

After quite a few house hunting trips, we narrowed down our search to the south end of Sayulita. We wanted an exceptional home for our guests and ourselves, easy walking distance to town and the beach, with ocean and jungle views. When we toured Casa Colibri, we knew this was home. It is truly a special place that provides all Sayulita has to offer, beautiful views, close to everything, and tasteful, casual comfort.

What makes this villa unique

Casa Colibri is located in a lush, colorful, garden setting overlooking Sayulita's beautiful bay. It is on a cobblestone street in a neighborhood that is private and quiet, yet close to all the action at the beach or in town. The décor is tasteful and authentic with all the amenities to make your vacation an exceptional one.

Beautiful, peaceful, and such lovely owners

  • 5 of 5

We spent our two-week honeymoon at Casa Calibri in December 2015. We've stayed at vacation rentals in the past, but this was our first owner-on-site experience. We could not believe how wonderful it was staying at Joan and Dave's beautiful casita. Accommodations were great, Joan and Dave made us feel like old friends, they really made the stay! The location is perfect, close to the beach and town, an all around great trip for us. We're ready to book our next stay for December, to celebrate our first anniversary at Casa Calibri. Thank you Joan and Dave

Wow! Ideal location, beautiful property, exceptional hosts.

  • 5 of 5

This is only time we rented a VRBO where the property and location proved to be more spectacular than the photos on the website. We awoke in our super comfortable beds to the soothing sounds of the jungle and the ocean. The owners are like the local ambassadors of Sayulita and treated us like VIPs; arranging pickup from the airport (they greet you with chilled beverages; beer, water, soda), golf cart rentals, location of the safest ATMs in town, and reservations for any activities we were interested in. There were 4 of us (2 couples) and the bedrooms are situated for total privacy, each with their own bathrooms, with the kitchen/sitting area in between. Joan is obviously a talented interior designer as evidenced by the internal décor perfectly suited to emphasize the Sayulita atmosphere and easy to keep neat and clean. The doors open to the lanai which overlooks the ocean. You are surrounded by lush landscaping and exotic birds. The casitas are very separated from each other for privacy, but you can reach out to the owners easily for any needs. If you are worried about safety for your valuables (which we were not based on our experience), the owners provide safes in the casitas. Free Wi-Fi is also very convenient, and the owners have all sorts of beach toys available. You can walk to town or jungle hikes easily, but I have to say the electric golf cart rental was so fun to zip around in. The property and location were 5 star exceptional, but having the owners insight and assistance made this a 5+ star accommodation.

Lovely place to stay, and equally wonderful owners who can make you feel so welcome.

I don't travel much, and this was my first trip to Mexico, so for me the trip to Sayulita would have been way more of a challenge had it not been for Joan and Dave's kindness and thoughtful suggestions.

Muchas Gracias Joan and Dave!!

P.S. Hey Dave -- I bought the book....

Steve

Exceptional property with privacy and extremely gracious hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the two bedroom/two bath casita and found it exceptionally well designed, spotless, spacious and well equipped. They even offered daily maid service (weekends excepted) if requested at no additional charge. There were ocean views from all aspects of the casita and lanai making the choice of which was the master a mere matter of preference. Given the nature of the photos and the fact that the hosts resided on the property we were initially concerned about privacy, but that proved to be a very unwarranted consideration. They totally respected our privacy and made themselves available only to answer our questions and to offer invaluable advice. Their recommendations regarding transportation (golf cart as opposed to a car rental), the best restaurants, etc. saved us both time and money and was spot on. Perhaps the best feature was the fact that the property is within very reasonable/easy walking distance to everything Sayulita has to offer (the town, beaches, surfing, fishing, yoga and exceptional restaurants) what more could you want in a Mexican village.

We use VROB on fairly regular basis and highly recommend this property and it's hosts, Joan and Dave, if you are contemplating a very relaxing and carefree visit to Mexico. Joan and Dave will see that you are well taken care of and you will certainly enjoy their property and exceptional, unobtrusive hospitality.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

First time traveling to Sayulita. Casa Colibri owned by Dave and Joan was the perfect home base for our trip. The two bedroom casita was beautiful, clean and spacious. We were traveling with our two adult children and never felt crowded because of the layout which had a bedroom on each end of a kitchen/living room space. The was a large patio with great views of the bay. The house was in a quiet, secure neighborhood with only a 5 minute walk to the center of town. Joan and Dave, who also live in a separate house on site, helped us by arranging for airport transportation, golf cart rental and laundry service. They provided towels, beach chairs and umbrellas for our use. Plus there was maid service. They were also very helpful with lots of info on places to go and things to do. We even got a "pet" fix with visits from their sweet kitty and a playful pup named Frankie. I would highly recommend this house and we would definitely rent it again on a return visit to this great little surf town.

Amazing Family Friendly Location

  • 5 of 5

This was my second adventure to Sayulita. I traveled solo the first go, this time we traveled as a family. Casa Colibri was the perfect location. It was a quick minute to all the amenities that Sayulita has to offer. Close to town, close to the beach. We did not have intentions of renting a car, and have not regrets with that decisions. Golf carts are available to rent if necessary, and taxi rides are cheap. If you want to wander into other surrounding communities, the taxi service is located with a 5-10 minute walk. Joan and Dave are very accommodating, they helped set up a car service from the airport with a quick stop at the larger grocery store along the way. The Casa has all the features to feel comfortable and homey. The basics are provided with a few surprise extras like beach chairs, towels, and boogie boards. The home itself is aesthetically very Mexican Chic, with beautiful foliage surroundings. It feels very private and safe which was a concern when traveling with children.

Sayulita is a surfing type of village, so the beach is a must. You can go south to a more private beach, by that, I mean fewer people, or head to the main beach which has a lot more vendors selling their goodies, beach massages, and surf schools. Other attractions to consider are a deep sea fishing guided tour, a trip the Las Marietas Islands, and a quick taxi ride to San Pancho (more primitive culture). A favorite restaurant was Rustico off the main drag and the street tacos from the folks close to the main fruit/veggie stand. We were going to cook at home, but food is so delicious and affordable that it was worth going out.

Consider staying a bit later on the square for some live gypsy entertainment, worth every minute. We are hoping that we meet Joan and Dave again for another stay. Casa Colibri will be our go to, and we will recommend to any other friends and family considering a visit that way.
