For those music and history buffs...: This house overlooks to the northeast the Porgy House where Gershwin conceived and wrote the early drafts of 'Porgy & Bess.'

We love the view of the ocean from the upper deck. The house is impeccably built by a local builder with careful details throughout the house. We also enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Folly. It has the open feel of a beach community without the constraints that sometimes occur in more recent planned communities. There are great restaurants right on the Island and downtown Charleston is only a 20 minute drive away.
Close to the beach walkover--just two houses down. Great views of the ocean. Within easy walking distance (0.9 miles) to Center Street on Folly Beach.
Our family of five adults thoroughly enjoyed our week at Hidden Treasure. The property is very well equipped, the bedrooms are comfortable, and the location on Folly Beach is quiet and very accessible to the beach. We used the two big porches daily for morning coffee and evening wine. The strong and quick internet access helped two of our member who were keeping in touch with work. Carol was responsive and pleasant. We would definitely stay again.
Great location! Nice layout with large rooms. Nice and comfy furniture, including beach chairs and umbrellas. Love the two porches, picnic table and the hammock! Fully equipped kitchen (so said the serious cook and foodie - I just did the dishes), and very responsive and attentive owners when we had a minor glitch. Truly a "hidden treasure."
We just got back from a wonderful week in this "hidden treasure." We agree with all the other reviewers that this house leaves you feeling satisfied and content. The location couldn't be beat (close to the beach and 1 mile from town) and the house itself met all our needs. We especially loved that the covered decks spanned the whole front of the house on two levels, providing access from both the kitchen and family room on the first floor, and the master bedroom and TV sitting room on the 2nd level. There was a beautiful breeze and you can hear the waves in the distance. We couldn't be happier about our choice at Folly Beach!
This house was clean and lovely. It has everything you might need, is super close to the beach access, and has a nice view too. The beds are comfy and the owner provides sheets and towels. This is a great benefit as they can take a lot of space. Also, there are beach chairs, umbrellas and toys. The washer and dryer is huge, and detergent is also provided. If you lack anything, just ask the owner as she makes her cell and email readily available. Even the bugs are taken care of ahead of time.
The house is about 1 mile from the center of town, so you can walk if you want. It is a half mile from the county park also if you want a guarded beach. The drive to Charleston is approximately 22 minutes. Folly Beach itself is tourist friendly. There are random playgrounds and water filling stations around town. And the beach is huge! What more can you want? Vacation paradise!
We rented this home for a family vacation with 5 adults and 2 children. The property was spacious, beautifully decorated and even nicer than the photos. It is about 1 mile from the main road where most restaurants are located. Everything you need for a wonderful beach vacation was provided - beach toys, umbrellas, body boards, towels, grill, Apple TV when you need a break from the sun. Ample parking space was provided. We had a few questions and the owner was easily accessible and helpful. Though this is considered "second-row" home, there was an ocean view from both decks. It is a short walk to the beach and this was not an issue. I loved the outdoor shower!
Downtown Charleston with its rich history and numerous attractions is about a 25 minute drive. We would recommend the carriage rides, aquarium, Charleston City Market and a boat ride on Charleston harbor. At Folly Beach we especially liked Snapper Jack's where there was live music daily on the roof top and great happy hour specials. Loggerhead's and the Crab Shack restaurant are also worth a visit. We would definitely recommend this property. A great way to enjoy a beach vacation with proximity to historic Charleston.
Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc ?
Yes. One nice item was a number of 'beach toys' available. Another was the GREAT kitchen utensils. Very rare in a rental.
Was the property clean and well-maintained ?
Yes. The owner was there when we arrived doing her own check.
Did the owner provide good customer service ?
Yes, prior to our rental week. She also left her number with us, but we had no need to call her during our stay.
Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives ?
What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike near by ?
We are long-time Folly people, so we have our favorites: Crab Shack for seafood, Lost Dog Café and Black Magic for breakfast, Rita's for burgers, Woody's for pizza (but expect a long wait), Taco Boy for anytime (be sure to have the frozen screwdriver with a Gran Marnier floater). Rent a bike for the week so you can ride the island.
Folly Beach is a great get-away place with fantastic swimming, sailing, kayaking, and incredible sunsets that offers excellent dining right on the island with unlimited fun in downtown Charleston just 10 miles away. There's shopping right on Center Street and a full supermarket/shopping plaza just over the bridge off Folly.
