I could go on for paragraph after paragraph and still not do this place justice. Host Rainer has thought of everything. The most relaxing and Zen-like atmosphere and vibe permeates this beautiful Conch cottage, from the open front porch that feels like another living room, to the rear Courtyard/patio garden, complete with fountain and outdoor shower. Not only are the luxurious accommodations defying description, but the surrounding neighbors are all warm, friendly, and welcoming beyond words.

The house itself envelops you in peace and serenity from the moment you step onto the front porch. The historic cottage has an accent wall of Dade County Pine; comfy feather pillows and cushions in every seating and sleeping location. Spa-like bathrooms with fluffy white towels, more than any size family would ever use. High-quality sheets and mattresses, fascinating decor reflective of the owner/hosts' world travels. You will spend more time relaxing around in this house's many tranquil spaces. I predict any visitor will spend more time in the house then seeing the many sites of Key West! Carpe Diem is THAT special of a place.

I could blather on about the gourmet kitchen, outdoor dining room, luxurious two-bed suite upstairs, spiral staircase, expertly maintained tropical landscape, gallery-quality artwork, but there are just not enough characters here to continue.

So I will just say this: if you are needing a place to stay in Key West and want to feel like you are completely at home, in a safe neighborhood, with everything at your fingertips, book a month or two at Rainer Horn's Carpe Diem cottage. You will want to come back again and again. Superior to any hotel or B&B you will ever stay at in Key West.

Fantastic escape--a treat for all the senses

  • 5 of 5

We spent a month in this beautiful property. We loved everything about it. The decor came directly from Bali with other asian influences included. It was exotic, inspiring, and a joy to live in. The property is conveniently located to everything--24 hr cuban sandwiches, White Street Pier for Sunrises and Sunsets, Faustos for groceries. The outdoor spaces are my favorite--I loved the balinese daybed covered with pillows on the upstairs porch. I could read, watch the palms sway, and be in my own private hideaway. The back yard has a covered table for 6-8 for al fresco dinners and a beautifully landscaped garden and private outdoor shower. The front porch is a great way to meet the neighbors and enjoy all that Key West has to offer. We will return next year for sure!

Lovely cottage, great location, well appointed

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has a very 'zen' back patio area with beautiful plants, comfortable chairs, etc. The interior is very livable with a well appointed kitchen. The daybed on the balcony off the master bedroom makes a great reading spot!

The owner was very good in responding to questions, needs, etc.

There are many restaurants, attractions, etc. within walking distance----fun neighborhood.

Carpe Diem II Review

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage in old town Key West. Close to everything but on a very quiet street with quiet neighbors. Beautiful garden and patio with two nice bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. Modern, well equipped kitchen with everything needed. Gas grill provided. Property was very clean on our arrival. Owner is very responsive to our few requests. I would recommend highly to anyone looking for a quiet place to enjoy Key West. We are coming back next year.

Several good places to eat; all within walking distance. Siboney`s - great Cuban food; Salute on the beach. Sandy`s, a block away with great Cuban sandwiches.

Higg`s beach as well as Smather`s Beach are a short bike ride away.

Tranquility in Paradiise

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home is just perfect to recharge your batteries for your everyday life.

The owners have designed Carpe Diem to perfection, it has every modern amenity you might require within the peaceful surroundings of a Balinese themed decor.

Sitting in the garden you can hear the trickle of the fountain, the whooshing of the bamboo and the tinkle of the wind chimes. An added bonus is the rear upstairs balcony where you can lie on the day bed and catch the early morning rays of sunshine.

Sitting on the front porch amongst the lush green plants and trees is just as sublime and you get the added bonus of chatting to the lovely people of Key West. You also get to see and hear a number of different birds including a very pretty woodpecker.

The house itself is extremely comfortable with chairs, beds and pillows that were definitely chosen with great comfort in mind! The home sleeps 6 as there are 3 double beds but 2 are in the same room so you would need to be close family or even closer friends to share.

Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who will sort anything they possibly can to ensure your stay is perfect.

The location is great - there is an excellent food market in the street behind that sells anything you may need should you wish to cook and perhaps, like us, sit in the lovely garden to eat.

You can hire push bikes at the end of the street (you may want to consider buying one from one of the big shops on Roosevelt if you are staying for a month or more, you can always sell it or give it away at the end of your stay and I think it may work out cheaper) which is by far the best way to get around the island or you can walk which is equally delightful. Higgs beach is a short distance away and it has the added bonus of Salute where you can get delicious Key Lime pie. If you don't have one I suggest you buy a snorkel as the fish are in abundance and in an array of colours, shapes and sizes.

You can walk to Duval with ease in about 15 mins dependant on the length of your legs.

All in all I would say the perfect place to stay
