You can observe the working waterfronts at Bass Harbor and Bernard just a few miles away and have lunch or dinner at Thurston's Wharf, Seafood Ketch, Maine-ly De-Lites or Rich's Wharf, while you are there. Fresh lobster right off the boats is a special treat that shouldn't be missed!
A nice walk or hike can be found at the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Wonderland or Ship Harbor ~ all within a few miles from the cottage.
At the end of a busy day, come back down the grassy road to the private comforts of the Cottage at Hackmatack Cove ~
The reasons to choose the Cottage at Hatmatack Cove are the privacy, proximity to the harbor and the view of the marsh falls.
The owners have tried to make a cozy comfortable retreat for all visitors ~ Bass Harbor is one the best places to vacation in Maine and The Cottage at Hatmatack Cove is a wonderful rental choice ~
Following the path over the small bridge to the shore where reading and relaxing is a must ~
My husband and I brought our 2 boys ages 11 and 13 and my parents to this cottage, it was fabulous! We spent almost every evening letting the boys play in the harbor while we enjoyed the view from the deck. There were so many things to do not only locally, but around the park. The house was perfect, it had all the amenities we needed, the views were incredible and it was so peaceful.
We had very high hopes for our week at this cottage, and we were not disappointed. Paula was extremely helpful as we made our plans, and the cottage itself was PERFECT in every way. It’s small, but extremely functional. We were there with grandparents and rather than using the pull out couch, we put the grandparents in the room with the queen bed, our kids on the twin beds, and brought our own double air mattress which we put on the floor in the room with the twin beds. We managed just fine and then whoever got up first could use the living room and kitchen to enjoy the beautiful view, have breakfast, or whatever. Although there are other properties nearby, this site feels secluded and private. We loved hanging out on the rocks, sunning ourselves, wading in the water, trying to catch little minnows, and watching the tide come up before our very eyes. It’s such a lovely spot.
A peaceful place to enjoy the Maine coast. Beautiful sunrises over the cove and Marsh Falls. The cottage is in immaculate condition and completely furnished right down to the best lobster pots we've ever used. The lobster can be purchased from local fishermen.
Attractions in the area include a bike route to Seawall, kayaking on Long Pond, Bass Harbor headlight and many hiking trails with scenic views. There is also convenient shopping in Southwest Harbor and many good recommendations for places to eat in the cottage guest guide. Mainely Meats in Town Hill is one we enjoyed as well as Bass Harbor's Seafood Ketch.
We also appreciated all the information on the family furnishings in the cottage and the history of the cottage and area.
We have been at the cottage twice and highly recommend it for a quiet get- away.
Our family so enjoyed your private and scenic spot by the water on Bass Harbor, MDI. What a lovely view to wake up to each morning! It was enjoyable to keep track of the tides and investigate the rocks at low tide.
The cottage was so charming and spotless with plenty of living space. The kitchen was perfect, so handy and well-equipped. We made good use of the available lobster pots.
We appreciated and used your helpful suggestions about the island. It was a wonderful vacation for our family. I would highly recommend Hackmatack Cove.
We recently enjoyed an incredible stay at the cottage this month. We found all of our questions answered quickly and thoroughly throughout the rental process, which was very helpful.
The cottage's location was even more beautiful than the pictures. We appreciated the story of the home's history from the owner's and as first time visitors to MDI we were really thankful for the owner's recommendations for favorite places to see and eat while staying. We found the cottage to be very well stocked, clean, comfortable and spacious for our family. We thought it was located in a beautiful location and provided a quiet yard and home for us to return to each night after we enjoyed a day exploring the island.
Immaculate, cozy waterfront cottage. I could have spent every day just watching the view of the constantly changing tides. The cottage is clean, with spacious living area and well-equipped kitchen. Well-located, close to the free summer bus route that connects to all of Mt. Desert Island, and a short drive to many scenic trails. Love the nearby fishing port of Bernard and the village of Southwest Harbor. Be sure to have breakfast at the Common Good there: oatmeal, coffee, and popovers! This place is really magical. Away from hustle and bustle, but close enough so you can take full advantage of all the National Park has to offer.
Located at the end of a quiet road right beside the ocean. Though there is so much to do on Mount Desert Island that a person could be busy every minute. You will be happy to come back to The cottage at Hatmatack Cove! Some of the things to do are dining at the many restaurants to choose from on the Quietside and lots more in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert. The active town of Southwest Harbor, about 5 miles from this cottage and has anything you may need to for your holiday. There is a couple of specialty stores plus a full grocery store for great food for dining in. Local entertainment in the form of plays, lectures, live music, tours, wine and beer tasting, whale watching etc., can be found all over the island. Sight-seeing and hiking is available all over Acadia National Park ~ There is so much to do, you will want to come to The Cottage at Hatmatack Cove every summer!
