Good week!

Cottage was what we expected. The only disappointment was the fishing..the lakes fault, (or the fishermen's :) ), not the rental. Great views for the sunsets and the decks were nice. Thanks Dan.

First time this far north in Michicgan

  • 4 of 5

The owner of this property was very flexible to our accommodation requests. The cottage had a very functional kitchen and was well stocked with all the dishes, utensils and appliances you could think of. The bedrooms are large and the beds were comfortable. The views from the wall of windows were beautiful and the home was very comfy.

I love western Michigan and Traverse City. I've not been this far north in Michigan in the winter, but you can set your expectations around snow sports. "Boyne" was a learning opportunity as we quickly became educated on the various Boyne-named communities and ski locations. One ski area was about a 45 minute drive, the other was only a 5 minute drive. For skiiers, I suggest researching this area so you are fully informed for your planning purposes. There are plenty of quaint towns in the area to visit. I would definitely stay at this property again. I imagine this area of Michigan is breath-taking in the summer, as it was even on more gloomy winter days. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

The cabin was clean, comfortable and has beautiful lake views.

We enjoyed spending Christmas up at Boyne mountain. The house is close to skiing (5-10 min drive) yet it was private. The house had everything you need and was very roomy. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub in the snow! Thanks for letting us enjoy the cabin.

Third time here, always great!

  • 5 of 5

Every year we take a trip to boyne this is our fourth year doing the trip and our third time staying here. We love this place cause it's a nice open layout and a lot of room for everyone there. The hot tub needed a little maintenance work to get the water levels healthy to stay in, fortunately our friend owns a hot tub and knew what he was doing cause when we got there it was not safe enough to get in.

We asked for a later check out and the owner said it was ok but we were kind of bum rushed out when the temp cleaning lady showed up and told us she had another group checking in an hour which I later found out was not true, thus causing us to rush out of the house which led my girlfriend to forget cash in one of the drawers which when we called back was nowhere to be found.

All in all it's a great place to stay, it's inexpensive, the sound system and open layout make it great for hosting friends and family, bring your clothes and you're set. The owner is difficult to get a hold of but once you do and book it's smooth sailing.

Like any rental property make sure you wash the sheets before you sleep on anything because you never know.

All in all after all the hurdles you will have no complaints in this property, it's worth the money and it's a great place to make memories. We will be back

Unclean and not prepared.

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. We arrived on Sunday and started noticing things throughout the next day. The place didn't look ready for our arrival. Dusty, dirty floors, lawn was not mowed, deck was not swept, boats were not ready. For the money we paid it was not what we were expecting at all. The cabin itself if beautiful but a little rundown with patches on the walls throughout. We contacted the owner by email the morning we were checking out, June 15, 2013 and never heard anything from them. I sent another email and still never heard anything. It has now been 2 weeks. This is very bad business in our eyes and has earned this bad review. This cabin was reserved and paid for months in advance and so there is no reason that it shouldn't have been ready. Don't waste your money, go to a beautiful CLEAN resort instead.

Owner's Response: After 10 years of perfect reviews (5 out of 5), this is the first bad review received. As the reviewer states, she decided to spend her "honeymoon" at an up-north cabin. While I questioned this at the time of her rental, she still wanted to reserve. As she stated in the review, maybe for your honeymoon, staying at a "resort" is a better option. Most renters of second homes understand you are renting something unique and in our case our private cottage. It is a beautiful cottage (which the reviewer admits), but it is not a hotel. In early June up-north (when the reviewer rented), we have very few rentals and I always give a discount, as I did to this renter. The reason is that northern Michigan really doesn't get going until late June when it warms up and all the activities begin. Again, when I discounted the rental rate I thought the reviewer understood this. As I said in the beginning, we built this cottage 10 years ago and have rented it out on a limited basis for the entire 10 years. It is not a business and I limit the rentals to about 4 to 6 weeks in the summer and 4 to 6 weekends in the winter. We have received nothing but positive reviews and have pretty much booked the cottage with repeaters for the past 5 years. It is a wonderful place for families and one of the largest rental units in the Boyne area. I am sorry the reviewer did not enjoy her stay or appreciate what the cottage offers. She has taught me a lesson that renting the cottage for something like a "honeymoon" is just not worth it. I am happy limiting my rentals to families who understand and appreciate a true cottage and the freedom and space it offers. Thanks, Dan
