We have painstakingly created a wonderful ambiance inside and outside the home. It also has been meticulously maintained for your enjoyment. I've been going to Bath since I was very small and love the area.
John Dodge purchased this house in 2002
We love its close proximity to both the river and downtown Bath. We also love the house's charm and that it has a lot windows looking out to the river. And we able too put in a dock and a float off the boathouse.
The house is 140 years old and has been renovated, but we've maintained its Downeast charm with antiques and period furnishings. The "boathouse" is great place for drinks or dinner and is right on the water...and at high tide, over it.
We had a glorious vacation in this beautiful home! It was well equipped and so artfully decorated. We were able to entertain friends and family easily! We were lulled to sleep with the sounds of the calm waters of the river every night. In addition we laughed to hear the slap of the sturgeons, who periodically jumped and hit the surface fairly regularly! The house felt so private, yet was in walking distance to the downtown. The restaurants and shops were excellent. The farmers market was spectacular. We can't wait to come back next year!
This house was perfect for a relaxing vacation! Our two daughters ages 20 and 17 loved the dock and boathouse, my husband and I loved the deck over looking the Kennebec River. Just sitting in the Adirondack chairs watching the water flow by we could feel the stresses melt away. We were able to walk to the charming downtown area of Bath and enjoy many of the local restaurants and of course, several trips to Dot's ice cream were made! The kitchen was stocked with all the necessary pots and pans to be able to cook in if we wanted and did several times. Having a washer and dryer on the first floor was so convenient!
Three large bedrooms upstairs and a full bath complete with a claw foot tub! Linens and towels were provided and there were plenty!
The house is centrally located that trips to Wiscassett, Boothbay Harbor and Brunswick were easy. All in all it was a great vacation! Thankyou to Ann and John for sharing their lovely home!
We stayed at this house August 2010 for my sister's wedding. The pictures do not do it justice. The views from the house are wonderful. The house is so popular we had to stay at two different rentals this summer and they couldn't measure up. Wonderful house for entertaining, cooking meals, plenty of parking space, etc. I would highly recommend this house to others.
I stayed here with my partner and two small children (two and four years old) and we loved it! The house is beautiful and very well maintained and stocked. It is right on the river, with beautiful views, and feels very secluded although there are other houses around. We were within walking distance of lots of outdoor space to play in as well as shops (toys and books) for the kids and places to eat. The kids mostly wanted to play on the rocks by the river and loved getting muddy!
The house overall was better than I had even imagined and the owners were very attentive. They left notes for us and tried to anticipate our needs given the ages of our children and their interests. They called to check on us and to answer questions as soon as we arrived. For us, this was the perfect place for a quiet getaway, although I'm sure for others it could be a homebase for more adventurous expeditions. I wish we could have stayed all summer and recommend it highly to families like ours.
Perfect location - easy ride from Boston and close to Freeport outlet shopping and the pleasures of Portland. Located on the water, Bath offers the atmosphere of a small New England village with upscale charm. Visitors can boat, kayak, fish, bicycle or stroll past old-world ship captains' homes, explore for treasures in the many antique shops or buy local goods in the farmers market. Revisit the 'City of Ships' by touring the Maine Maritime Museum or the Bath Iron Works or simply relax and watch eagles soar and fish jump. You may never want to leave!
