Rose Hill is a unique historic estate in region.
The natural beauty, location, peacefullness, and positive energy of the estate makes for an uncomparable property for you to stay.
We spent two months here with our dog over the winter and have booked again for next year. Part of the charm is the property itself. The cottage is inside an historical walled city block square that holds a large home used now for a B&B and winter restaurant. There is also the former stable that is the summer restaurant. The rest of the property has several other buildings and rents out for weddings and events.
The cottage itself is a large 3-bedroom built in the days when the solid materials provided sound proofing and coolness on hot days. The beds were extremely comfy and they send the linens out to come back silkily starched. Better than our beds at home! The rooms were pretty large and many had fold out couches, so you could sleep 8 or more here without too much bumping in to each other. The cottage has aged and there were things like the kitchen stove that need updating, but the owners were very responsive to our requests. It was fun on Friday nights to walk 50 yards on property to the restaurant and have good drinks, a nice meal and listen to a great jazz saxophonist.
The other part of the charm of this place is its town location. We're suburban the rest of the year and were delighted to be able to walk 3 blocks to a very charming small downtown with decent restaurants and places to shop (most non-food places welcoming to dogs). There is a big park nearby for people to hike and explore and the local hunt clubs have pseudo fox hunts there weekly. Big horse country! Aiken is about 3 hours away from Savanna, Charleston, or Atlanta and 25 minutes from Augusta, GA, where the Masters tourney is played. People are friendly and there are a lot of transplants who've moved there for well paying technical/scientific jobs so a pretty interesting small town. We'd never stayed in the south before and now have a deep appreciation for aspects of it.
I'd strongly recommend to dog, horse, golf or walking enthusiasts. You can hang around the property for a nice quiet vacation or range out further for bigger fun.
