#9 Freshwater sits adjacent to the parking facilities and is a 15 minute walk to Kensington Oval (5 min drive), the home of cricket in Barbados; 30 minute walk to Broad Street, Bridgetown (7 min drive); 20 minute walk to University of the West Indies Cave Hill (4-5 minute drive). It really is an excellent hideaway for the whole family and the owners often enjoy long weekends in the apartment when it is vacant. Occupants are at liberty to go to the supermarket of their choice to satisfy their individual requirements and the apartment contains everything that you would find in your own home - and if you don't find it, just ask - no reasonable request will be denied. Also, free, high speed, wireless internet available now!
Gardens and beach: there is access to lovely gardens which borders one of the famous West Coast beaches and calm waters. Late in the afternoon, you can relax in the garden and watch the sunset. There is a clear view of the Bridgetown Harbour and you may even witness the large cruise ships as they enter and exit the port. There is also access to a gazebo within the property. See above for further details.
Barbados is 166 sq miles. The Freshwater property sits on a beach, but a change of scenery is as close as a 5 minute walk, or a 35 minute drive over to the other side of the island.
Special interest holidays
From high performance World Rally Cars to a tram ride through the extensive Harrison's Cave, to name two out of hundreds of activities on the island, there is truly never a dull moment in Barbados... unless you choose to relax and enjoy the Caribbean.
If you are arriving by plane, Grantley Adams International Airport will be your first experience and truly, as a person that travels regularly as part of my job, in my opinion it is one of the best run in the world. A 30 minute drive will have you at Freshwater. Arriving by cruise ship, you will enter the Bridgetown Harbour where you can see the property as you dock. A taxi ride will have you on our beach within 5 minutes.

My name is Chris Maloney and my family (wife and 2 kids aged 11 & 8) love spending long weekends at this apartment. It's literally 65 steps to the white sandy beach and the beach runs south for about 1 1/2 miles and North about another mile. We really do have a great time in the water during the day, then watching the sunset over a rum or 8, and then, sometimes we strike up the BBQ and have a great meal outside under the gazebo. I would love for you to experience my island home!
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2006
It is very difficult to find reasonably priced property on the west coast of Barbados - particularly directly on the beach!! This is a cozy 2 bedroom apartment that we could manage and I pass my pricing onto my guests. It really is an affordable place to stay and you enjoy the beach, gardens and the priceless sunsets every day.
One of the greatest benefits is that, after a morning spent in the sea, the kids are exhausted and normally drift off to sleep in the early afternoon, leaving my wife and I with much needed quality time. Outside of that, I find the gardens and loungers very relaxing.
Location, location, location! We are in #9, and true to the listing there is no view (although opening the windows to the parking lot there are no cars and a lot of greenery). But you really ARE steps from a grassy/garden area and that in turn in next to the BEACH. Paradise Beach is pretty much empty, shallow, and totally lovely. For swimming and paddle boarding (call Ryan at What' SUP Barbados) we did not see a better beach anywhere around the island. Past that you get to Batts Beach, and 0.5 miles from Freshwater you run into rocks and that's it. In the other direction you have Brighton Beach which is fronted by houses and also mostly empty, then further on Brandon's Beach which has some facilities like bathroom and small restaurant and some more people relaxing about. At 1.15 miles from Freshwater is a rock wall and Bridgetown kind of begins. In between is the "Hot Pot" which is a hot water cooling exhaust from the Barbados Light and Power plant; locals come to bathe in the somewhat sulphurous waters. The power plant is mostly not visible from Freshwater Bay Apartments or Paradise Beach so it didn't really bother us. Next to that and by the Hot Pot is a rum refinery which according to Ryan used to produce all the Malibu rum in the world. Mount Gay is produced literally down the road where you can take a tour, and further on is the Agapey Chocolate excellent tour. Up the coast in Holetown we had nice meals at Just Grillin' (casual), and Il Tempio and Zecchio's which are fancier. We loved this place and are discussing if we could come back for a month!
This property was the ideal get away. As a former Barbados resident I was looking for a place close to the beach without being on a main road. Freshwater was the perfect location being tucked away right off the high way. I was not looking for anything over the top but comfortable and homey, and that is exactly what freshwater offers. I recommend this property for families of both young and older children, couples or even single persons like myself. two thumbs up and I can't wait to stay again for my next trip to Barbados.
This location is ALL about self catering. For those of you who want All inclusive, catered or resort accommodations, this is not for you. As for self catering, it is a funky apt. One of the hippest Rum Shops on the island is across the street; Jack's Bush Bar, The Pile bay fishing market is next door to the villa apts. for fresh caught fish every day but Mondays, and Apt. 9 is 10 feet through a gate to the gardens and 25 feet to one of the most quietist beaches on the Island. Sundays may see a family or 2 of 20 max. But you can always tan on the Villa gardens away from the maddening crowds, and they are few, especially threw the week. It is central to restaurant row to the north and 5 minutes to Bridgetown to the south. Breakfast-lunch is authentic Bajan food at ridiculously low prices at Eve's resto around the corner. If you have concerns about being close to the Electric power plant and the large ships of LNG gas/Diesel that moor 200 yards from the apt. a couple of days threw any given week then this place is not for you. However, the cost, the quality of accommodation and the location to REAL BAJAN life, if you partake of it; the fishing village, is a value that will allow yourself the ability to enjoy the higher end restos without guilt.
It is why we rebooked as soon as we got back to Canada.
I looked and looked for somewhere to stay on the beach in Barbados and everything seemed so out of my reach! Finally I found Chris' place at Freshwater and I couldn't be happier. I got a great deal for my 2 week stay and it's right on the beach!!
Many thanks for a memorable trip!!
I visited this property for 2 weeks in August, and it was a perfect little spot. The bedrooms are spacious and air conditioned which was a blessing considering how hot the island is, and the kitchen was very well equipped. However, what took my breath away was the gardens which are well maintain and because of the trees it is very cool, and a step away from the beautiful beach. I visited the Bush Bar for Karaoke and had some excellent fried pork, it was great fun. Overall I had an excellent time, everyone was helpful, and I definitely got some much needed rest.
What a great way to spend some time away from home! After doing some research of other properties on the West Coast of Barbados, we were thrilled to find this little gem tucked away on the South end of the coast. We were a bit put off by the power plant when we arrived but like vrbo said, once we got inside the complex, settled in and went into the gardens and saw the beach, it was truly a little oasis.
Its not the most posh place on the west coast of the island, but the beach, the people and the price will definately bring us come back. Keep the Banks cold!
Charles and Joyce!
A short 10 minute drive north and you'll come across the world famous Sandy Lane Golf Club. On any given day you can watch celebrities frolic on the beach, or pick up a round of Golf - the greens are open to everyone - for a fee of course. Another 5 minute drive further north and a bit off the coast you will come across the Royal Westmoreland. Both of these courses have world renowned quality, and with your stay at Freshwater, you don't have to worry about a world renowned accommodation bill.
If you're a car racing fanatic, a bit further afield, you can find the brand new Bushy Park Circuit in St. Philip which Hosted the world Renowned Top Gear Festival and several stages of Rally Barbados in May 2014 with the Race Of Champions scheduled for December 13 & 14 2014!! An island paradise with so much to offer indeed!!
