This casa is the perfect getaway to relax and enjoy the warm breezes of the Costa Rican coast. The neighborhood of Palm Beach Estates is a quiet, gated community with onsite security, located within the lush Las Baulas national marine park. The peaceful, uncrowded beach of Playa Grande is covered with beautiful shells just waiting to be discovered. And if you enjoy wave riding, our beach has one of the best surf breaks in the country! Casa de Amigos is a spacious, uniquely designed property that was recently renovated to maximize the vacation experience for larger groups. The house boasts several living spaces for multiple activities yet maintains an open, interactive floorplan for the ease of group entertainment. Its two separate living rooms, centered in the house, provide a television with DVD player, plus a central stereo. These rooms flow to the fully equipped kitchen, so you may curl up on one of several couches while other group members cook dinner or watch a movie.
The floorplan includes five bedroom suites – four conveniently positioned off the two main living areas & the fifth being a private suite just off the pool. Each bedroom has its own internal bathroom, providing exceptional privacy from the rest of the group. All bathrooms have tiled showers and separate vanities. Four bedrooms have king-size beds with premium luxury mattresses & sheets. One bedroom has a queen size bed plus a set of twin bunks (affectionately called “the kids room”). All bedrooms have separate, individual AC units and ceiling fans, as well as a TV with cable.
The kitchen is the perfect gathering place for any time of day. Fully equipped with stainless steel refrigerator, cooktop, microwave and oven, it provides all the modern conveniences of home. There is seating for six at the breakfast bar, plus an additional seating for six at the dinette area. Its gorgeous dark wood cabinetry and granite counter-tops are two luxurious accents of this upscale property.
With regard to luxury, this home’s remarkable function cannot overshadow its equally beautiful form. Its interior design is the distinct collaboration of its stateside owners & a local decorator. From its incredible wood-covered, vaulted ceilings to its playful light colored sofas, every design element is precisely chosen. Combining the influences of the coast with the local art of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, the interior of this property conveys the perfect blend of “tropical chic”.
And once you have taken the opportunity to absorb the entire list of “inside” delights, you won’t want to miss its equally impressive outside amenities. Situated directly in front of the beach access, it is only steps from pristine Playa Grande beach and all of its many activities. You may also prefer to take your choice of a refreshing plunge in the private swimming pool, or simply kick back in a lounge chair to catch some rays amid the tropical landscape of the backyard. Or perhaps relaxing in the cool water on a “pool stool” while sipping an ice-cold fruit smoothie might be most appealing.

We recently returned from our stay at Casa de Amigos.I can't express how much we enjoyed our vacation! The house was perfect. It was spacious and clean. It was also very well appointed. Our group included six adults and four children ranging from 9 to 17. Everyone enjoyed our stay. We met Jorge at the house at 4 PM. We chose to have the house stocked with a few basics in case our flights were delayed and we didn't have time to get to the market. Shawna shopped for everything on our grocery list and it was exactly as requested. Jorge gave us the grand tour and answered every question that we had. We were pleased to find the house was immaculate and even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. Shawna also stopped by to greet us and answer any questions we had. We had the added pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Mark during our stay. The kitchen was well appointed. There was a blender, coffee maker, enough dishes and glasses, a griddle and much much more. I can't think of anything we needed that wasn't provided. we were also very happy to see that beach towels and chairs were provided. Lolita came in twice a week to wash bathroom towels and washcloths and beachtowels. She kept the house immaculate and was very pleasant. The pool was wonderful. We spent a lot of time swimming and soaking in Costa Ricah sun. We took a one day tour (Buena Vista) and enjoyed zip lining, horseback riding and Hot Springs. It was a bit of a drive, but well worth it. We also took the ferry to Tamarindo to do some grocery shopping. It was a short walk down the beach and a ferry ride (one dollar a person) across the estuary. We also enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Witch's Rock while we were there. We spent a lot of time just relaxing at the house. There is a little grocery store (Wilmart) in the neighborhood and also several restaurants that are very short walk from the house. We had several meals at Seven and everything was wonderful. The house is very close to the beach. We walked the beach every morning and collected shells and also enjoyed surfing and boogie boarding. The sunsets are amazing (we brought cocktails down with us!) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here. It was a beautiful area and very safe. we will definitely stay there again! A special shout out to Scott it was so helpful with us planning our vacation. Also to Mark who gave us the rundown on the area and to Jorge and Shawna for being so helpful. andto Lolita for doing such a great job. Pura Vida!
We really enjoyed our recent family stay at Casa De Amigos. It was our first time visiting Costa Rica and we couldn't have been happier with our choice of destination. The house is comfortable, spacious, clean and well-equipped (each bedroom has its own bathroom), with a great pool out the back. The unspoilt and pristine expanse of Playa Grande is literally across the street and we spent a ton of time in the warm ocean surfing, boogie-boarding and body-surfing. This is a VERY relaxing place to hang. Some of the amenities mentioned by other reviewers were closed as we were just out of season and we were grateful to have a car to get out and about. The property managers, Shawna and Jorge were very helpful with all of our requests. Also recommend zip-lining in Tamarindo, Playa Dentita (paradise) and Playa Hermana. Pura Vida!
Stayed here with our family to celebrate our last college graduation! Our four daughters and their companions each had their own room and bathroom, and we took the upstairs pool apartment for ourselves. The house was lovely and clean, and had plenty of space for us all. Beach was awesome, but the pool was refreshing and relaxing. We could get basic necessities at the nearby "Wil-Mart" and also delicious food at "Seven" located next door. Highly recommend!
Our family of 5 recently spent an amazing Thanksgiving holiday at Casa de Amigos! Having been to Costa Rica twice before, my husband and I knew Playa Grande was the ideal beach for our children's (ages 4, 6 and 8) first trip to Costa Rica. Casa de Amigos seemed like the ideal house- was in a perfect location, just across from the beach, and had all of the amenities and even more than we had hoped for. Our kids spent every day walking the beach collecting shells and sand dollars (and even saw a baby turtle one morning), then they would head to the surf shop next door and get boogie and surf boards and would spend hours playing in the water. We would drag them out of the water long enough to go home for a meal and some time in the pool. We did not rent a car, so we visited a few of the restaurants within walking distance- all of which had plenty of options for the whole family. We did venture to Tamarindo one afternoon using the water taxi to have lunch and just roam around for some souvenirs. Their beach is overcrowded and really made us appreciate the quiet relaxing vibe of Playa Grande. We cannot thank Nathalie, the house manager, enough- she responded quickly to every question we had, she stocked our fridge upon arrival and she cleaned up the house (and our laundry) daily. I would also like to thank Scott, one of the owners, who was equally as responsive and helpful. Our kids regularly ask when we can go back, and when we do, you can be sure we will stay at Casa de Amigos. Next time we will bring more friends to experience the beauty of Costa Rica, after all the house is big enough to comfortably sleep another family!
What a treat this place is. We travel extensively throughout the various blue-water destinations around the world. This offers as much or more than any I can recall. Reliably consistent surf, fishing, diving and easily accessible services. Perhaps best of all is the quality of the restaurants. The dining is as good as I have found anywhere.
The house is perfect for around 8 people and the new lockout "apartment" offers a privacy component for multiple couples and/or kids. The beach access is directly across the street.. The breakfast restaurant is next door. Three excellent fine dining restaurants are a very short walk away. All without compromising the absolute seclusion you went looking for to start with.
Nathalie and Ludo are always around to help without ever being intrusive. There are plenty of blogs about how great they are and they are all true. Thanks to them again for improving our trip.
We were a group of 11 from Calgary, Canada that traveled to Casa de Amigos with an age range of 1.5 to 91 years old, April 14 – 24. The house was superb and the hosts Natalie and Ludo where fantastic! They greeted us upon arrival, showed us around and got us checked in quickly. The fridge had been stocked with all the food and drink we had pre-ordered. All the rooms have their own private bathroom and individual AC, with 4 bedrooms in the main building and a large newly renovated 5th bedroom / bathroom upstairs accessed from outside the house.
Natalie or Ludo stop in once a day to check in. It was great, as we got A LOT of information from them! Everything from house history to the bread truck that will deliver to the front door. The best information we received was ordering fresh fish (tuna, snapper, prawns, lobster tails, mahi mahi, etc.) for grilling on the propane BBQ!
The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and equipment you would need for cooking. There is no dishwasher. There are no high chairs, cribs or children’s items, but Natalie can absolutely help rent these items if need be.
The beach is a 2 minute walk straight out the front of the house. You’d be lucky to count 40 people on the 2km+ beach at any time! The house has a great place to wash the sand off your feet as you enter the property and there is an outdoor shower so that none of the sand is tracked into the house or pool.
The backyard of the house is a true GEM!! There is a giant table with benches that our group used as the main spot for gathering and relaxing enjoying the heat! It is covered by a LARGE roof with built in fans. There are 5 lounge chairs for soaking up the sunshine! The best part is the pool; it is sparkling clean and easily accessible with 4 steps into the shallow end. The pool is between 3’ and about 5’-10”. It has 3 bar stools in the shallow end as well as a bench in the deep end. The pool boy comes every 2 days to checks the pH and clean out pool.
We did not have a vehicle while in Costa Rica. The water Taxi is a 10 minute walk from the house and on the other side of the water taxi a 10 minute walk to Tamarindo. The large grocery store is a 7 minute walk from where the water taxi drops you, opposite Tamarindo.
This house comes down to Location Location Location, Casa de Amigos had the best of everything we could ask for in a vacation rental and Natalie and Ludo are by far the most amazing people you could ask to meet on your vacation!
