Lovely lakefront log cabin home in picturesque Wakefield, NH with 100'+ sandy beach, on a peaceful cove on clean 700 acre Balch Lake. Three (3) private bedrooms (all with queen beds and doors), a downstairs 'kids kabin' with 3 daybeds with trundle beds sleeping 6 (or more if needed w/ add'l. mattresses and cot available), 2 1/2 baths, with two propane fireplaces, an outdoor hot tub, a covered outdoor deck looking out over the lake with a Weber gas grill, & a Tiki hut on our private sandy beach.
In the summer, come and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the loons, as well as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing, jet skiing, motor boating or simply swimming in the clear lake water. Our lake features a full service marina. Sit on the beach or the dock relaxing and taking in the sun, or playing bocce on the beach. A top rated golf course (Province Lake Golf course) is only 10 minutes away. In the evenings, make a fire on the beach and roast marshmallows under the starry nights!
In the winter, wonderful sledding in the back yard, ice skating on the lake, or snowmobiling trails through the area, as well as numerous ski resorts within as little as a 25 minute drive of our cabin.
And year round, the outdoor hot tub is a wonderful place to relax and talk with your family or friends.
Open to Vacation Exchanges: We love to travel -- my wife Donna of 26 years, our two daughters (ages 17 and 13) and perhaps our oldest daughter (who is out of college and not able to travel as much). We love warm locales (Hawaii, Florida, California as well as Europe. We can also do non-simultaneous exchanges.
We are a family of 5 (3 daughters) and love to have share our beautiful log cabin with guests -- friends, families and others.
Stephen purchased this cabin in 2006
An amazing getaway during any season of the year. The lake in the summer is amazing, with temps in the mid to high 70's; great fishing on the lake; snowmobiling in the winter; skiing not far away; and the autumn season is spectacular for the colors.
Outdoor year round hot tub a great way to relax under the stars; Long covered deck overlooks beautiful lake for your morning coffee and book. In the Kids Kabin, we have a fantastic stand up video game with over 40 games to choose from (Pacman, Galaga, Frogger, Centipede, Mario, et al).
This place is definitely a place to consider if you are looking for a trip up to the lakes region. The house itself was very warm and comforting and had plenty of places to sleep no matter how big your group is. The beach is good sized with plenty of room for beach games. Our stay was fantastic with so much to do on the property as well as a good sized lake to enjoy. The water was too cold to swim but with the dock right there, swimming would be a nice way to cool down on a hot summer day. I would definitely look to go back and recommend this place to friends.
Nothing but good things to say about Stephen and his property. All of his responses were in a timely manner and made sure everything was up to par upon check in date. The property itself was large enough to comfortably house 13 people, probably more. Great escape for those who want to get away from the city. I will surely try to rebook again in the summer, the property had everything we needed!
Thanks again Stephen, we'll stay in touch.
House was very nice and roomy. Loved the huge wrap around deck and private beach was best part. There was everything you could need to enjoy the water, beach and house. I was with another family and a ton of kids and we didn't leave the house all week as the kids had a blast just hanging at the property. The process leading up to our stay was very well managed by Stephen. He was very organized, responsive and attentive to his guests needs. All around great experience.
I went with a group of 10 MIT students for our student group's annual executive board retreat. The cabin was relaxing and and beautiful! We grealty enjoyed kayaking and canoeing in the water, as well as making smores in the firepit. Our group will definitely keep it in mind for our future retreats!
For the third time in four years, my extended family visited this wonderful location for our vacation. Once again, we were very pleased with the experience and found many wonderful things to do while staying at the cabin. The outdoor activities that a family is able to partake in while at the cabin are numerous. Kayaking, swimming, fishing, boating, walking, cooking s'mores, sitting by the fire, enjoying the sunrise/sunset from the beach or porch, watching the stars, listening to the sounds of nature, and enjoying time together with your family and many more! Once inside the cabin is comfortable, clean, welcoming, roomy, and an overall joy to stay in. We cannot recommend this location any higher than a five-star stay...if we could we would! Thank you, so much, for another wonderful week. See you next year.
Great for a large # of people. Wonderful private beach for kids of all ages, with dock to jump from. A wonderful large blowup boat that all enjoyed. Kayaking in your private little bay for kids and fishing out farther for the "real" fishermen. Kids learned rod and reel fishing at the beach and caught and released many little fish-perfect for the experience. Beautiful lake side large covered porch for morning coffee. A Pac Man arcade game was the hit at night with competitive "grown-up" brothers. Lots of room for for spreading out-for 13 people and could accommodate more. Close to Hannaford Grocery and places to dine(& pizza! for kids). Great hot tub. Large dining table for meals and playing games after dark. S'mores on the beach to top the day. We all want to go back next year-all 4 families said best time ever!!! A find to brag about and a wonderful blessing for my family!!!
We are set on a quiet cove on Balch Lake, away from all the boating noise. Easy access to main part of the crystal clear lake, where there is great jet skiing, tubing, swimming and fishing. There is only 1 home close by, but our beach is very private and secluded. There are no beaches across the cove, as those homes have no beach front areas at all. So, you can feel comfortable just tanning or relaxing on the beach or the dock or floating in the lake on a tube, imbibing your favorite drink.
Once done with all the outdoor activities (be it in the sun or on the mountains), we have a wonderful 6 person outdoor hot tub that is available year round. Nothing like it after a hard day of skiing the blues or blacks on the mountains in the crisp, NH winter air or after a tough day out on the water or beach, swimming and tanning. Great way to unwind.
We are 45 minutes from the Portsmouth Circle and very easy to get to up Rte 16; just under 2 hours from downtown Boston. Once here, we have space for 5-6 cars to park down at the cabin. We also have a 2 car garage up the hill, which is used more for storage, although lots of parking there as well, if needed. We have over an acre of land on our property.
2 convenience stores 5 minutes in either direction on Rte 153. Large Hannaford's grocery store 15 minutes away in Ossipee. Poor People's Pub is a nice local bar and pretty good food as well -- 10 minutes away in downtown Wakefield. Miss Wakefield's Diner and Hen House are 10 and 5 minutes away - both serve fantastic breakfasts if you do not want to cook (great pancakes, omelettes, et al).
Other Activities: Boating, canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing --- all available on our lake. Local marina allows people to bring in their own boats. We provide canoe and kayak and some flotation devices to use. Our private beach is nice and sandy and approx. 100' long. Nice and gradual slope for little children. And you can jump off our dock into the lake. We are located in a nice, tranquil cove which does not get much boat traffic, so nice and quiet. Great to just jump on a flotation device and grab some rays with a drink of your choosing (we have a refrigerator in our tiki hut on the beach). And nothing better than building a fire on the beach at night under the stars next to the water.
