Sales tax # 025450290001. Big year this year for our lovely cabin! New paint job this spring 2014 and now brand new decks and a new hot tub this November 2014! Really exciting to love our cabin up a little bit!

We are in an excellent area of Southwest Colorado in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. We are close to many attractions and the location of our property is an attraction in itself. We are up on a mesa secluded from all the crowds and noise. We are halfway between Durango and Silverton in the heart of the San Juan mountains. This property is a full acre in the mountains with a private hot tub and sauna. Pure luxury in a gorgeous forest. There are great views of the Hermosa Cliffs and a picture perfect mountain backdrop. We are high in elevation which allows you to escape the heat of Durango.

Spruce Mesa Cabin: This is a perfect Colorado mountain getaway! We are located in the San Juan Mountains a mile back from highway 550 atop a mesa with great views of Hermosa Cliffs. We are just 6 miles south from Durango Mountain Resort and 20 miles north of Durango. We are located less than a mile from Electra Lake. We are pet friendly, wanting you to have a great vacation with your entire family. 4-WD required in the winter season.

Accommodations: This property is definitely a cozy cabin designed for indulgence and relaxation. Make a cup of cocoa and curl up with a great book. We have a private hot tub as well as a sauna with no 'pool hours'!! We are in a secluded neighborhood with breathtaking views. This was a home until December 2009 and it still feels like a home with beautiful decor and the finishing touches you don't usually get with a rental. This would make a wonderful memory for your family and friends.

Activities: The San Juan Mountains is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the country. Sit in the hot tub on the back deck and enjoy the snow covered peaks. Summer time in the San Juan Mountains is spectacular. A hike or bike amid the wildflowers, waterfalls, and wildlife in the high country is unforgettable. There are numerous trails that will inspire you. Electra Lake is a great destination for fishing and they charge a very small fee for its use. The lake is over 6 miles long! There are many other picturesque lakes in the area for public use. Durango Mountain resort offers many family activities including an alpine slide, mountain biking, and chair lift rides. A scenic drive north to Silverton or Ouray known as the Million Dollar Highway is jaw-dropping. There are Jeep tours of mining towns, rafting, fly fishing, and the famous Narrow Gauge Railroad!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lives up to everything it promises. This is a beautiful property that the owners have obviously taken great pride in maintaining. My favorite activity was dimming the back lights, and sitting in the hot tub on the back deck with a view of your own personal planetarium.

This cute house was perfect for a quick weekend getaway! It was the perfect size, very clean, and the hot tub was the cherry on top!! The house was warm and inviting upon arrival. Nice open kitchen for cooking. Bedrooms were quaint and provided that warm, fuzzy feeling! Our 4-wheel drive was definitely needed to get to the cabin. Snowed 3" overnight, which added to the already beautiful scenery! The only thing wrong was we didn't get to stay longer! Will definitely stay here again!

Thanksgiving GetAway

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 adults and one dog spent the Thanksgiving holiday here and we enjoyed every moment. The cabin is located in a quiet neighbor with wonderful views of the mountains and just a short drive into Durango.

The cabin provides everything you need for basic cooking and there is also a BBQ on the deck if you prefer to grill. We really appreciated the Keurig coffee maker for our morning coffees. Nice touch!

Although we didn’t spend much time inside it was very comfortable for the four of us. There was a TV w/Satellite, DVD player, and wifi. The bathrooms were clean and the beds were comfortable.

The owner provided excellent communication about the property and local area plus expectations of renters. No surprises which was nice. I would stay here again and I would recommend to others.

Perfect cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for a nice weekend retreat for my boyfriend and I and our dogs. We arrived earlier than planned and the owner was nice enough to let us in early. The hot tub and decks were brand new and the photos don't do them justice, much nicer in person! And the views from this place are amazing. We had everything we needed as the place was more stocked than stated in past reviews, exp. they now have a wine opener! We really didn't spend much time inside but they did have a tv, wifi, and Dish network. The neighbors are nice too! Overall, we had a great stay, thank you!

Great location for Colorado vacation

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed the stay. The core is solid, but a couple fringe things keep it short of perfection.

The best aspect is the location 30 minutes north of Durango. We were very glad we stayed here instead of in town. Easy drive in, but recommended to return before dark.

The hot tub is nice and all the core aspects for a rental are there.

I will highlight the negatives because everyone focuses there, but we still liked our stay.

First, I would not recommend more than 4 people given loft won't have privacy. The couch and bed were not comfortable. I do have higher standards given back issues. The downstairs shower could be nicer. The upstairs is good, but the layout a bit funky with door. There is some age on some kitchen related aspects that detracts a little. We also didn't like the idea of renters cleaning utensils, not because we didn't want to, but more wondering if they were cleaned when we arrived. Lastly, we would have liked a rug next to doors for easier transition with shoes. It is highly recommended to bring sandals, soap, and a daily travel bag.

Overall, it is a solid choice and the cabin would offer a warm vacation experience.

This property provided a beautiful escape from a very hectic lifestyle.

  • 5 of 5

The property is well cared for and it provided all of the comforts of home. The kitchen is stocked with cooking supplies and it is kept clean. Many evenings of our stay was spent on the deck while cooking on the BBQ or enjoying the hot tub. Although other cabins are in the vicinity, we felt secure with our privacy and did not hear any noise. It is hard to describe the peaceful beauty that we experienced. Wildlife roams freely through the area. I enjoyed my early mornings on the deck waiting for elk to stroll through... and they did! During our stay we visited the friendly people in Durango and surrounding small towns, hiked, and went horseback riding (Buck's Livery) in the San Juan National Forest. It was an adventure that I highly recommend!

The description of this property is accurately posted. The owners were exceptional in providing information about the property as well as activities in the area. I only had one problem about my stay here.... LEAVING! I look forward to returning again.

Rustic cabin in the woods

  • 2 of 5

This cabin located about 20 miles north from Durango is up about 2 miles from main road, not paved but a pretty good packed road. The cabin is rustic, small living spaces, 2 bedrooms and a loft bedroom, one very small bath in upstairs bedroom. Kitchen had strange setup, a dishwasher was available but never used it was more trouble to roll across room to hook up than just wash the dishes in sink. The cabin needs a good cleaning, maybe some new kitchen dish towels, pots and pans and some updates but if you just need a small cabin home base to explore Silverton, Ouray and Tulleride this cabin would work. Owners were nice to come and let us have access to garage for our motorcycles, which I found was not a part of the rental.

Owner's Response: Just to clarify your comment about a good cleaning, your page of feedback to me only indicated you found a few cobwebs and a bug in the window screens. I agree that you should not rent a small cabin in the woods.

Car: necessary

The resort is still at 8,800 feet elevation making it usually 10 degrees F cooler than Durango and offers a cool alpine escape from the summer heat.

Ski: Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) prides itself for being a family friendly resort for Alpine skiing and is a short 6 mile drive. Snowboarding, Alpine skiing, and even ski biking are available. The mountain has lots to offer all levels of skiers and DMR does an outstanding job of having plenty of staff to make a safe, family environment. Outstanding Nordic skiing is available across the highway from the resort. Breathtaking views. There are many guide services offering snowmobile, snocat, and sleigh ride experiences.
