Our cabins on the shore of beautiful Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine are the perfect spot for a relaxing family vacation. Picture yourself seated in lawn chairs by these lakefront cabins away from the noise and traffic of your everyday world. The private weekly rentals give you the stress-free summer vacation you deserve.
A note from your hosts:: For your stress free vacation nestled among the birch, fir, and spruce trees, McIver's Lakeshore Cottages is a summer playground in the big Maine Woods for those who love the outdoors. Here in this peaceful setting sportsmen and vacationers alike find relaxation and recreation. Holidays here are fun-filled and stress free.
These two cottages, located on the west shore of the Moosehead Lake are situated in a perfect spot, right across from Mt. Kineo. The cottages are rustic, but have a good layout, with two separate bedrooms, and a living space with an open kitchen. They have all the basic necessities for a great and relaxing vacation. The place is at the end of a private road, far away from traffic, in a peaceful setting right on the lake. The owners Brenda and John also allow well-behaved dogs, which was a huge plus for us and our dog, who loved to explore the property and to swim in the lake.
The cottages have gas grills located just outside, as well as a shared fire pit with a ready supply of chopped wood right by the water, to enjoy perfect views of the evening skies. There’re also a few canoes available for you to use as you please.
If you plan to do lots of cooking, bring your own salt/pepper, oil etc. as well as a good knife. You should also bring your own toiletries and a hair-drier, if you use one.
Cell phone service in the area is very poor to non-existing (I’ve heard that it’s a bit better if you have VZ), but you can usually get a decent signal just 2 min away by car, at the dock of Mt. Kineo shuttle, in case you need to make a call. This actually adds to the attractiveness of the place, because it forces you to unplug and enjoy your surroundings!
We arrived to find our hosts, and a plate of fudge, waiting to give us the keys to the smaller cabin. The lawns of the two cabins (and the others nearby) to be immaculate. I was pleased that there were ducks and ducklings. Other birds there are loons, gulls, and cormerants. I fed the ducks, no-one else was interested.
My little dog, a 5-pounder, came out of his timid shell and investigated the couple of acres of property like a big dog!
There are a couple of good restaurants within a mile or so, on the backroads: Maynards and The Birches. We did a moose tour with The Birches, also, and that was successful and a nice boat tour of the back rivers.
We also went down to Greenville to the Black Frog restaurant and Tiki bar, and to Woodies, a roadhouse kind of place, as well as the other stores and restaurants down there. It's kind of a tourist/beach-like town to have fun in.
The beach at the cabin is small but excellent for kids and adults. The kayaks and canoe and marina are great. Check out the pics on this web site. They're all real.
Have a great time!
Having stayed in many different locations around the lake over many years, McIver's has one of the best spots on the lake. large lawn, protected marina, sandy beach, close to the protection of Moose River yet far removed from traffic of any kind. John and Brenda do a wonderful job ensuring you have everything needed for an enjoyable stay.
The beautiful Moosehead Lake Region is known as the Gateway to the Great North Maine Woods. This back country area includes majestic mountains, lakes and ponds dotted with islands and indescribable natural scenery. Moosehead Lake is the largest lake in Maine; it is about 40 miles long and 20 miles wide. Moosehead has many inlets and bays; it is fed by scores of streams and smaller lakes. It's waters provide fishing enthusiasts with togue (lake trout), brook trout, and land locked salmon known for their fighting qualities. With numerous logging roads to explore, enthusiasts can spend many enjoyable hours spotting various species of wildlife in their natural habitat.
