Description

East Riverside Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

We bought this house on the street behind us in 2008 and did a complete historic renovation on it. It's nice. We have two large bedrooms, both with queen beds and personality. Only one bath, but it's got a Jacuzzi tub. The kitchen is small, but you're not coming to New Orleans to eat in. A nice living room, stereo, cable Flat Screen TV, lots of CDs and DVDs and books, and WiFi. All very comfortable. The one downside is that this is the second floor, so you have to climb stairs. But then you get the front gallery (porch) you can hang out on as a reward.

And we love our location. We're one house off Magazine street, right in the coolest section. Tons of great restaurants, bars, shopping of all kinds, coffeehouses - Magazine is a great street. And we're more than happy to give you all the guides and suggestions you need. We're locals, and know our way around New Orleans.

We're also inside the parade route, so we're only a few blocks from the Mardi Gras parades in a couple of directions.

We also have two other properties across the street available for guests or larger parties. View: https://www.vrbo.com/827762 and https://www.vrbo.com/828064

Why Elena Reeves-Walker chose Central City/Garden District

We live in the house behind this house (facing the next parallel street) and have our offices on the first floor. There is a shared yard in between.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, location, location! We are one house off Magazine on Antonine St. Lilette Restaurant is right on the corner and Baru Restaurant is a block away, also Le Petite Grocery, Coquette, Saveur, Shaya, Cavan... Plus, there are over 30 other restaurants within walking distance, plus boutiques, antique stores, interior design shops, cafes, a grocery store, and art galleries.

The apartment is cozy and modern with a New Orleans touch... a perfect perch for your New Orleans experience!

We also have gated off-street parking.

Amazing Location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 9 nights in November with my parents who are in their late 60's. at first I was worried about the stairs leading up to the apartment and although they are a long set of stairs none of us seemed to have much trouble navigating them. The bedrooms were huge and although the bathroom is tiny - we made it work for the four of us. The kitchenette is well stocked and we appreciated the coffee that was provided, the only things to mention would be that they only provided 3 coffee cups so we were lucky that one of us was not a coffee drinker and we had no luck in getting the sink to hold water - we improvised with a bowl so it was not a very big deal. There was a split reaction to the beds though - the master bedroom bed was amazing (blue room).but the bed in the second bedroom (gold room) definitely needs replacing. There was adequate towels for our length of stay and the quality of the towels was great.

The location is excellent - this was our first time to New Orleans and we did not know what to expect but we were very glad that we had a place to stay just steps away from magazine Street and away from the chaos of Canal Street and the French Quarter. Fun places to visit but nice to come "home" to some where much quieter. We felt very safe and secure. Nice 10 minute walk to the trollies on St. Charles and we felt comfortable in that area even after dark.

New Orleans has some amazing food and the information that Elena left in the apartment on where to eat was very much appreciated and bang on! We had a great vacation on really enjoyed our stay - I would definitely recommend this unit for anyone that is looking for a comfortable home base while exploring New Orleans.

Owner's Response: Hi Terrie, my housekeeper said that the 4th coffee cup was in the adjacent cabinet, it must have been put away in the wrong place. Regarding the mattress in the gold bedroom, let me clarify... it's not actually an old mattress... We got it because mother-in-law likes a softer-style mattress, rather than a firm one. That said, I will replace this with something firmer, since that seems more popular over all.

Good location

  • 3 of 5

Best aspect was the location if you are primarily interested in that part of town, which we were. Within walking distance of a couple of restaurants that we are familiar with and enjoy. The unit struck us as rather tired, inside and out. It was clean , however. The slats under our bed kept falling out. We were not "fooling around" either. Bath is very small with low water pressure. The owners' dogs bark quite a lot, especially when you go in or out of the unit. We thought the owners would have made an effort to shut them up. They had to hear them since they were in their back yard, which abuts the rental unit. The outside stair case is steep and could be an issue for some. Off street parking was nice. The owners' other units across the street appear much nicer.

Owner's Response: I wish the guest had contacted us about these things while staying. First, regarding the slats. We just replaced the bed in the front room and weren't aware that the slats are having trouble staying put. That is a simple fix -- to nail down the slats. If they had emailed, called or texted me I could have solved it pronto. It is being fixed today. Second, regarding low water pressure... admittedly, that does seem to vary. Some guests say that it is very strong, and others have said it is not so much. But based on this guest's reaction we have purchased a new pressurized shower head to hopefully mitigate the low pressure if and when it happens. Third, regarding the dogs barking... they bark when people come and go inside the black gate during the day -- this is only during the day and never at night because they are inside all night with us. While the barking can be annoying, in essence, it is a GREAT crime deterrent. Unfortunately, because we are in New Orleans, we tend to think a lot about security for our family and guests. The dogs are behind a short fence, so guests never come in direct contact with them. However, all that said, we do have bark collars which we could have put on the dogs if the guests had asked us to. Finally, yes, the bathroom is on the small side. Also the stairs are steep. It is on the second floor. New Orleans houses are very old and have charming features like exceptionally tall ceilings. That means you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the second floor. It is definitely not handicapped accessible. This apartment was fully renovated in 2008 and it has a deliberately eclectic style. Our apartments across the street, on the other hand, were renovated last year -- we just started renting them in Feb 2016. Our new apartments are truly very beautiful and modern, with more amenities such as a full kitchen, laundry and 2 en suite bathrooms, but they are also quite a bit more money per night. Despite this, this older apartment has a rare feature that most other places do not have -- a gated parking space. It also has a private balcony. Once again, if the guests had contacted us, I'm sure we could have made things a little more comfortable for them.

Great place! Bright, happy spot right off Magazine street - perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two young children, and I stayed here while visiting friends in New Orleans. It was a wonderful stay. This was our second time renting the property, because we had such a great experience the first time. The apartment has everything we need - it's quiet and cool and feels spacious, and it's steps away from shops and restaurants on Magazine. Elena and her family are wonderful - they gave us great tips on places to go and things to see, and were quick to reply when we had any questions. We will absolutely be back!

Great home, great location for a stay in New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to stay in New Orleans. It's right off of Magazine St, with plenty of shops and restaurants in the area. The bus to Canal St is right on the corner and takes about 20-30 minutes. Just keep $1.25 handy for each ride or get a $3 bus pass from the bus driver. The St. Charles streetcar is a little further away but also within walking distance. The apartment itself has everything you could need. Comfy rooms, balconies, guides for the city, tons of books, kitchen for those who somehow get tired of eating out at all the delicious restaurants in the city. One thing that could improve was the hot water in the shower. Elena was very responsive and helpful when I had questions. I'd be happy to use this as my home base anytime I'm visiting NOLA.

Loved the home!!

My friends and I really enjoyed this home. The owner was very nice, friendly, and professional. We felt comfortable with the home before we even arrived. The location was perfect and close to many attractions. I would definately book this home again.
