Casa Alegria is a secluded ocean view villa located in the heart of Manuel Antonio. The villa is fully air conditioned and beautifully decorated in a Balinese style and is one of only six homes in Manuel Antonio within a 15 minute walk to the public beach and National Park.
Location, location, location... There are over 250 rental homes in town that are a short drive to the beach and National Park... but there are only six within walking distance, and Casa Alegria one of them.
Casa Alegria is designed to maximize the feeling of light and air, with floor to ceiling windows on each level facing the view of the ocean, lush rain forest, and stunning Pacific sunsets. Both of the upper levels have large balconies spanning the length of the house, which are perfect for enjoying dinner or drinks in the warm evening air, or even better - a massage from one of our many accomplished spa therapists. The balconies are also a fantastic spot for watching the abundant wildlife in the rain forest surrounding the house, and monkeys, sloths and tropical birds can be viewed without leaving your chair. The entire home is air-conditioned so you can keep cool anywhere at any time.
Each of the large bedrooms also has its own private bathroom. The master bedroom on the top floor has the king size bed as well as a jacuzzi tub. The other 3 large bedrooms have queen beds so the house most comfortably fits 8. We can accommodate a couple extra guests on inflatable mattresses.
On the lower floor with the pool, heated hot tub and outdoor lounging area, there is also a little kitchenette so you can keep snacks and drinks close by.

About Michael Cunningham
After year's of traveling through Asia and Europe, Costa Rica was my first travel through the Americas. I quickly fell in love with the people and the incredible beauty of Manuel Antonio, purchasing an estate as my home-away-from-home in 2006. I now own a few homes in Manuel Antonio and manage several others so can help you find the best home to fit your exact needs. I have recently moved to Manuel Antonio full time, but do spend much time in my home town of Chicago.

Our best vacation ever
Everything about Casa Alegria and our entire visit to Manuel Antonio was fantastic. The house is beautiful - the pictures don't do it justice. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the view is outstanding, the pool is delightful and the surrounding trees are filled with beautiful birds and wildlife. The beach is a short walk down a steep, winding road. If you have trouble walking up hills, take a taxi. I've been to beaches in Mexico, the Carribean, and the United States -- including Kauai - but this beach is my favorite for a family trip. The beach is long and wide, framed by stunning, lush hills. There are lots of trees for shade on the beach and there are monkeys and sloths that love to frolic among the branches. The waves are absolutely perfect for kids who love to surf, boogie board or just leap and dive into the waves. The sunset is spectacular and there are plenty of chairs and food available so you can park yourself at the beach all day if you choose. The entrance to Manuel Antonio Park is just a short stroll down the beach and there's a small bonanza of tourist shops right at the entrance. But the overall vibe of the beach feels very local -- not like an American tourist scene, thankfully. I should add that one of the best things about staying at Casa Alegria, aside from the beauty of the house and the location, is the concierge - Sani. He helped us arrange a full itinerary of activities before we arrived, patiently answering my emails and questions. When we arrived, we had a full schedule of white water rafting, snorkeling, ziplining, and a gorgeous hike to a waterfall where we swam and the kids leapt off the rocks into a deep natural pool. Sani accompanied us on a couple of our outings. He gave us lots of history and provided context for what we were seeing and experiencing. Sani is incredibly helpful, interesting, and a joy to be around. We also splurged on the cook he recommended for a couple of nights. She had food waiting for us on the evening we arrived and my kids swear it was the best meal they've ever had (I tried not to be offended given the thousands of meals I've cooked for them!). I find it difficult to offer any criticism or complaint about our visit. As a family, we'd been looking forward to this trip for a long time and it exceeded our high expectations. Enjoy!
Spacious, immaculate, inviting home!
Our 3 generation family of 7 could not be more impressed with Casa Alegría! This past winter, my husband and I started planning a trip to Costa Rica with our 3.5 and almost 2 year old. When we mentioned the idea to my in-laws, they said they wanted to come! My brother-in-law also joined us. My sister-in-law and her boyfriend stayed at a hotel nearby, but they spent as much time as possible with us at the house. I booked the home for its proximity to the beach and ability to accommodate our group, but we got so much more than we ever thought possible.
Upon arrival we were greeted by monkeys on the balcony, toucans at the window, and a sloth asleep in a tree on the property. The caretaker, Sani, is so much more than the "concierge" he is advertised as. He scheduled white water rafting for us and even joined us on the river. He spent an entire day with us at his favorite local spots: an extremely kid friendly, beautiful, isolated beach; two gorgeous waterfalls, and a tilapia farm where we ate a fresh and delicious lunch. He showed us the open hospitality for which Costa Rica is known, and we are so grateful to him for making our stay so memorable.
We also took advantage of the chef services that are advertised on the listing. We had no idea what to expect, but Lili blew us away with her cooking. We scheduled two dinners with her prior to the trip, but once we tasted her food we had to have a third night! She gauged our group dynamic and needs perfectly! Even the little ones got something special at each meal, including mini, non-alcoholic versions of the drinks all of the adults had. We all loved her presence in the house.
As the mom and caretaker of the group, I went into our trip expecting to continue with many of my housekeeping tasks that I do at home. I could not have been more spoiled on this trip. Heylín took care of all of us and the house every single day. She did our laundry, swept up all of the sand we brought home from the beach (it was a lot, and we apologized to her profusely!), and even acted as sous chef to Lili for the dinners we had at the house. I am so grateful for her!
We also got to know Juan, the gardener, a bit during our stay. He turned up on the balcony one morning, introduced himself, and asked if we liked coconut water. He reappeared a few moments later with four coconuts from the property, already cut open ready for straws. He checked in with us daily to make sure everything in the house was ok.
We will definitely be back!
We didn't want to leave!
Casa Alegria is an absolutely stunning property in a very central location in Manuel Antonio, right from the start of the booking process with Michael you know you are going to be looked after right up until the second you leave!
Sani and the Household staff are amazing, they are so warm and welcoming and on hand to make your holiday as smooth and fuss free as possible.
The views are spectacular from the balconies but the views you get from within the garden are really what makes this house outstanding, we had 2 Sloths living in the trees right outside, Monkey's visiting twice a day, Lizards sunbathing by the pool, Toucans and Aracari tapping on the windows - we saw more in the garden than we saw in the National Park!
We are a couple who travelled here with our Friends and their 3 Children, the house was everything we needed and more, the pool was a very welcome feature, although central in Manuel Antonio, it is quite a steep hill heading towards the restaurants, shops etc. it was very hot whilst we were there so a cool down was just what's needed after a hike!
We were so sad to leave Casa Alegria - I cannot recommend it enough, Pura Vida!
First Class Team and House!
Starting with the booking process, the responsiveness and thorough information was reassuring, as I had never rented a vacation home outside the US. By the time we arrived I felt confident about what to expect when we arrived (important when traveling with teenagers who can be very critical).
As others have commented, Sani is so much more than a house manager. We all felt he was our new friend in Costa Rica. He showed us the best coffee houses, hang-gliding and rafting outfits, waterfalls, and beaches. All things equal, choose this house due to Sani, you won't regret it.
The pictures speak for themselves, but don't really do justice to the scenery from the balcony. It was everything we were looking for in a place during our Costa Rica vacation. Even the teenagers were impressed!
50th Birthday with 15 of my friends
I can't even start to tell you how AMAZING this place is. We rented both houses and Sani the manager was there every day to make sure we had everything we needed and gave us such incredible advice on places we would have never imagined going to. He is now family! He went above and beyond his job but instantly makes you feel like you have known him for years. He took us to places nobody would ever go as a tourist (a waterfall him and his son found, a tropical oasis on the beach, caves on the beach) we were talking and I told him how much fun ziplining I had on my birthday and he recommended another place which had the 3rd longest zipline in the world and it was the BEST PLACE EVER!
Angie was wonderful also, she made sure that we had a ride from the airport to the house. Got all of our tours pre arranged and cancelled or re-arranged with so many people it was like hearding cats. She made sure we all got back to the airport, even our friends that needed a cab at 2am. She arranged for us to have the Chefs 2 nights, which was so delicious and they were so sweet.
The houses I can't say enough about, BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL! Amazing views out every window, room for everyone. The funny goofy toucans the peck on the window in the morning and turn theirs head sideways to look in. We must have 200 pics of just them. The monkeys will come and go unless you give the little buggers fruit. They love the bananas and leeche. One stole the sunglasses off my head at the park and a raccoon tried to steel my husbands wallet so watch for these little buggers at the park. But that is half the charm, where else will you get that.
The people are AMAZING, so friendly, we met Henry a tour guide at the park and had him over for dinner a couple nights and Sani also. They become family, you will want to go back. The restaurant behind the house is great, we went through alot of ice, and they were always giving us some to take home when we went to eat. Wear your walking shoes, everything is up hill, but you will get use to it fast. We will be back.
No Place Better!
For my 60th bday I wanted a trip with my children. Seven of us stayed in this magnificent house with spectacular views. All the bedrooms had a view of the ocean. We spent most of our time gathered around the spacious kitchen which opened into a huge family room with a view of gorgeous foliage and the ocean. Mornings were spent on the deck with coffee and often shared with the monkeys, the resident sloth, iguana and a pair of toucans. We spent a couple of afternoons around the beautiful pool.
What made this house the best, besides the great layout and tasteful decor, was the staff. Sani, our concierge, was wonderful even before we arrived. He communicated with us by email, answered all our questions, arranged pick up at the airport and tours and excursions. We only had 4 days, but they were the best 4 days we could have ever imagined! Edwin, our driver, was waiting for us at the airport. On our way home he stopped at a fruit stand where the vendors cut fresh fruit for us to taste. Next he stopped at a bridge where we got out and looked down at huge crocodiles!
Sani was waiting outside for us. When he opened the door, we all gasped! Not only was this house breathtaking, but the smells from Lily and Rachel's cooking were amazing. After a long day of travel, it was such a treat to have appetizers waiting for us and a dinner that was better than any restaurant we had ever been to. The best part was that we felt like we had walked into a friend's home. Sani, Lily and Rachel were so warm and friendly and made us feel as though they knew us.
In the morning we met Juan who comes every day to maintain the pool and the grounds. He always had a smile on his face and pointed out animals to us! Hailen was our housekeeper who kept the place neat and clean. We hardly knew she was there but we'd go looking for her just to say hello! She was sweet and pleasant and even washed our clothes!
Casa Alegria is in a great location. We toured a national park with lots of wildlife and a beautiful beach. We went "Canyoning". We walked to the beach and stayed to see the spectacular sunset. The last day, Sani treated us to his own private tour where we hiked to his favorite waterfall and swam in "the pot" and had lunch at a local restaurant that served fresh tilapia caught on site.
We ended the trip with another of Lily's fabulous meals. None of us wanted to leave. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.
There are only 6 homes in Manuel Antonio that are a 15 minute walk to the public beach or less... this is one of the closest! In just minutes, you can walk to the public beach which leads to the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park.
