My husband was born and raised in Carmel, we were married in Carmel Valley 30 years ago and have been going to either the village or Carmel often in those 30 years. This area is home and we plan to retire there someday. Currently we live in the San Francisco Bay area. Our country home has become our retreat, a place to unwind and recharge .We love to get out of the city and into the sunshine and slower pace of the country. We never grow tired of looking out at the vineyard filled valley from our deck or driving into Carmel for a sunset walk on the amazing white sand beach.
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
We found this property by chance on a business trip to Carmel. Once the realtor opened the gate to the property and we saw the beautiful meadow filled with lupine, poppies and ancient oak trees we knew we were home.
We love the quiet. You will notice when you first get out of the car the only sound you hear is the crickets and the frogs. We love the views of the valley, watching the finger of fog moving in and out of the valley below in the early morning or evening. We love eating dinner out on our deck in the soft candlelight on a warm night. We love to drive into Carmel to walk on the beach at sunset. There are so many things to do but often we just stay home with a pile of books and sit on the deck reading and relaxing.
The "Carmel Valley or Rose Cottage" was a most beautiful spot, secluded, incredible views, just a most lovely spot. The listing description was accurate. The home was beautifully furnished, clean and even the wood stove and fire pit were ready to go! We used the catering for a family dinner, recommended by the owner Madalene Rose. The caterer is Michael Jones of "A Moveable Feast" next to the "Cachagua General Store" 1.5 miles from the turnoff to the cottage. It was an incredibly good dinner and Michael was wonderful to work with.
We want to return again someday and would highly recommend this beautiful property.
This place is amazing. It was well equiped. The hot tub, wood burner, and gardens were wonderful. Beds very comfortable and the ride up the mountain was the best. Thank you for sharing it with us. It was great.
Once there, everything as advertised. Comfortable home, beautiful surroundings. Great vacation spot, very relaxing and private. Bring in your own food and there is no reason to leave.
We had an amazing time in Carmel Valley. Despite it being mid-Feb we sat around the pool all weekend and all 6 of us took it in turns to cook up some feasts. As we are all "foodies" it was great to see that the house catered to most of our cooking needs and we would rent the house again anytime.
The surrounding area is so beautiful and you cant see any other houses in view. Perfect.
We traveled to Carmel Valley for a last minute girls trip to escape the city. We had 7 people in our group and we all fit with plenty of room to spare. The drive up to the home is definitely a windy one and if you did not read the directions that Madalene supplied you may have a hard time figuring out where to turn as waze and google maps will lead you around the corner to a closed gate.
When we arrived the lights and heat were on which was a lovely touch. The kitchen was well stocked to make dinner and the dining table fit us perfectly. The outdoor area of this home is definitely what won us over. The dining area outside looks over the entire valley and you feel like you are on your own ranch. The pool area is fantastic and the hot tub was on and working when we arrived.
Even though we could have stayed at the home all weekend we decided to take a cab down to downtown Carmel Valley. We called the local cab company and they sent a 7 passenger van to pick us up. The fare was seventy dollars each way. I highly recommend walking around town and exploring the different tasting rooms. Carmel Valley is so charming and we will definitely be back soon!
Thank you Madalene for letting us stay at your home!
