Roy was born and raised on Spanish Wells and Linda was born in a settlement not too far away named current. We both love to meet new folks and entertain. Roy sings and plays the guitar when he is not working as a commercial lobster fisherman and Linda takes care of the home when she is not preparing fabulous meals for their guests
Roy and Linda have always lived next to this property and this is where they started their married life together. The previous owner was a sweet lady named Mrs Marjorie. This is where it gets its name. After Mrs Marjorie passed it seemed only natural to keep the place in the family.
We consider all of our guest as our family. Since the property is close to our primary house, it makes it convenient to take care of our guests.
What an incredible vacation I had to celebrate my 50th birthday! This wonderful home provided everything we needed for our 12 day stay. We were greeted at the doc by Roy and from that moment on, we became family. We were greeted by Linda at the house with an amazing lobster tail meal! We actually got to meet a lot of the family that were there as well visiting from the States. The cottage has a lot of history to it and I felt really special staying there. It was very clean and felt like home. It was nice having the golf cart to get around the island. I was so excited when Roy and his family invited us on a day trip to the Exumas on his boat. What a beautiful day we had snorkeling, feeding the iguanas, watching the grand kids spear fish and being able to see all the sharks, dolphins and stingrays in their natural habitat. I highly recommend that if you want to go to a place with your family and/or friends, this is it! The waters were absolutely beautiful and the beaches are gorgeous. All the food on the island was so good... I will definitely be returning to this paradise. I miss Roy and Linda and family... I wish there was more time to spend but I look forward to the day I return. I promise you will not be disappointed in this cottage and will gain more friends for life!
We cannot say enough about our time on Spanish Wells. We staying in Aunt Marjorie's Cottage for one week, which was not long enough. Linda and Roy were the most hospitable hosts; you will immediately feel like family. We loved talking with them and listening to Roy's stories about his lobster fishing career. Spanish Wells is definitely one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. The small island is perfect if you are looking to get away from the crowds. Everyone on the island was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed riding around on the golf cart (buggy) that was provided, especially after getting ice cream from Papa Scoops and watching the sunset every night. There was never more than a dozen people on the beach at one time. You can sit/stroll on the light pink sand, wade in the clear blue water, or go on the most beautiful snorkeling adventure ever! The fresh fruit on the island was the best we have ever tasted, and the lobster (crawfish) and cracked conch were delicious! Be ready to tear up when it's time to leave! We are already counting the days until we can return to this piece of paradise. Everything was absolutely perfect! We will definitely be staying longer next year! Thank you Linda and Roy for everything!
We had a great time in Spanish Well and could not have been happier with our accommodations. As a former hotelier, who managed three properties in the Caribbean, I highly recommend staying here. The cottage is a home away from home with everything provided that you could possibly want. Linda and Roy are always ready to help in any way.
My husband and I recently visited the unforgettable island of Spanish Wells. We were fortunate enough to stay at Aunt Marjorie's Cottage owned by Roy and Linda Pinder. We can both say, without a doubt, that Roy and Linda are two of the nicest, warmest and generous people we ever met. The cottage was cozy and comfortable with all the amenities that anyone could ask for. The Island is beautiful, the people are friendly and the feeling of family and faith surround this little piece of paradise. We look forward to going back soon!! Pat and Tom
My husband and I just returned from the happiest, most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We stayed at Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage on the small island of Spanish Wells, in the Bahamas. I had visited the island back in the 1980’s, and have always wanted to return. The water is crystalline blue, the beaches surround the island in white, powdery sand, the little conch cottages are welcoming in bright shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green, and the residents are the friendliest people you can imagine. Other than a few more streets, houses, and a real grocery store, nothing has really changed.
Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage is wonderful. It is built in the old conch style, with cozy rooms that wrap you in comfort. You can open the windows and smell the sea air, using the air conditioning only when absolutely necessary. Everything is available to meet your needs, including Wifi and a toll-free phone to the U.S. While we swore that we were going “off the grid,” it was reassuring to know that we could be in contact with our family, when necessary. The house has a lovely yard and garden, with chairs for relaxing and a grill to use. We sat every day and watched doves, hummingbirds, and the neighborhood cats come to visit. A very short walk north takes you to one of the gorgeous sand beaches on the island, on which you only occasionally meet others. An even shorter walk to the south takes you to Budda’s Snack Shack, a casual, outdoor bar and grill with excellent food and a very laid-back atmosphere. Budda also has a liquor store on the premises, if you are interested. Truthfully, we ate there every night of our stay, since it was less expensive than buying groceries!
While the whole vacation was an amazing experience for the senses, it would not have been the same, had we not met Roy and Linda, the owners of Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage. When we arrived, Roy met us at the town dock with our “buggy,” a big smile on his face, and a huge hug! He is vibrant, entertaining, and as we came to find, both generous, and kind. From there, we followed him to the cottage, only to find Linda waiting for us on the front steps. She had prepared a delicious lunch of baked lobster, twice-baked potatoes, broccoli, and homemade cake, ready for us to eat at the dining room table. Linda, too, is extremely kind and generous and welcomed us as if we were family. Indeed, we were treated as family during our entire stay. When Roy made his delicious conch
My husband and I spent 2 weeks here in October and it was, hands down, the best vacation we have ever taken. The memories we made there, I will treasure always. Aunt Marjorie's cottage was very clean, very homey and you just melt into it. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and well taken care of. Roy and Linda were our hosts and you could not ask for any better. Linda even had dinner for us when we arrived and it was wonderful. We enjoyed eating at the Shipyard, Budda's, and the Gap. It is also worth a trip to Eleuthra to see Preachers cave and the beach there. We enjoyed the Peoples Church and the wonderful people who opened their arms and homes to us. How refreshing not to have to lock your doors. This island is a hidden gem and I fell in love with the beautiful people, the beautiful food, and beautiful scenery. Usually after a week on vacation, we're ready for our own beds- this one was different. The closer our departure date crept up on us, the dread set in.When it was time to go, I thought my husband was going to have to tie a rope around my waist to get me in that water taxi. When we did leave, unexpected emotions overcame me and I cried-as I said I left some of my heart there. Since returning home, I dreamed several times that we were still there. I cannot say the word Spanish Wells without a big ole smile on my face. And after I write this review I'm booking 2 more weeks in about 6 months! That says it all! A heartfelt thank you to Roy and Linda for all the hospitality and Ron and I cannot get back there soon enough. Dreaming of it til we get back-----Angie
Spanish Wells is a unique, quaint fishing village with a diverse history ranging from early pioneers looking for freedom to pirates and most recently hard working fisherman who love the sea. The only way to the Island is by water taxi and the primary mode of transportation around the Island is by Golf Cart. If one could describe the ideal setting for folks looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and yet experience worry free living it would be Spanish Wells. The Island offers great people, great food and fantastic fishing and diving opportunities. There is no better location on the planet for kids and adults to experience the beach and water without the crowds.
