About the property

Not a Hotel, Not a Highrise, a 'Home'.

When we say it's a 'home', we're reflecting on the many comments our guests have fed back over the years. They've returned to their 'home back home' with suntans, rich memories of the tours and activities they've chosen to experience. But they also take along memories of just having been free to relax with no hassles or elevator rides, or lengthy walks to the beach, or the garage. Ours is a kickback place where you call the shots.

With only eighteen units in the complex, we offer seclusion and privacy if that's your desire, or, if you choose, you'll easily find some great fun right there on the premises. Here's a sample of what can be found:

Stairs to the water lead to snorkeling, board and body surfing, kayaking, surf fishing. All are enjoyed just off our shore.

There's whale watching in winter and early spring.

Turtles come visit and dolphins are seen jumping not far away.

You're invited to join the fun at our resident manager's weekly sunset PuPu parties next to the pool.

It's just a short walk to the three-times-weekly Farmer's Market.

Your daily needs can be fulfilled at nearby grocery and convenience stores, delis and locally popular take-out eateries.

Frommer's Travel Guide named our Hoyochi Nikko Ocean Condos as one of their highest recommended properties. Maui Revealed gives Hoyochi Nikko their prestigious Gold Bar rating for excellence. Independent rating service 'Family Trips' gives Hoyochi Nikko, the Hyatt Regency and the Sheraton Maui a B+. with a side note 'Great!' It's where I would want to stay in Maui!'

About Pam Steffen

My husband Jay and I live in the Northern California wine country, love the outdoors and our many return trips to our home away from home on the Maui beach front. We especially enjoy sharing our little slice of Maui Paradise with our guests, who continue to tell us how much they enjoy themselves during their stay. We welcome all our repeat visitors, and eagerly look forward to welcoming you first timers into our Island family. Aloha! Pam and Jay

Pam Steffen purchased this condo in 1999

Why Pam Steffen chose Maui

First it was Maui, and our love affair with its unique variety of tropical landscape, country roads and dramatic ocean scenery. Add to that the wide choice of activities from snorkeling, surfing, championship golf, hiking, fishing along with plain old soaking up rays and napping on the beach. Our best discovery on Maui was when we stepped through the front door of our beachfront condo. We were treated to a postcard view of azure water with the sun setting between the islands of Lanai and Molokai. It was love at first sight. We now welcome you to that same experience. May it be everything you're looking for and more.

What makes this condo unique

Our condo (one of only 18 on the two-story oceanfront property) has often been described as 'The Honeymoon Nest' because of its top floor, end-unit privacy. Other benefits we brag about are: a 20-foot vaulted wood ceiling, a remodeled kitchen, bath and air-conditioned bedroom.

NIce quiet location

  • 4 of 5

The location of this complex is nice and quiet. The parking space for this unit can be a challenge since it is right alongside a rock wall so you have to back in. It is nice that the bedroom has a wall air conditioning unit to use at night. The kitchen is extremely narrow so two people cannot really work in it at the same time. We heard from others that the gas grills are in really bad shape but we did not use them. It is nice that there is a water pitcher with a filter in it in the refrigerator because the water really tastes bad. The fact that there is a washer and dryer in the unit is great but when adding something to the washer the water did not look very clean. I must say that typically there are never enough hangers in a closet in a rental but this one had so many you would be hard pressed to use them all! All you need to bring is your clothes and you are set. A lot of things you might want for a vacation are provided in this unit which was great. We were able to walk to various restaurants to get lunch and/or dinner. The view from the unit is amazing as you are close to the water and you can definitely hear the waves crashing. The pool was in excellent condition as were the grounds. If you have the HomeAway app on your phone you will get all necessary information for check in and check out which was great. The Thursday night pupus by the pool was a great way to meet everyone staying there. It seemed like there are many, many return visitors. Everyone was very friendly. One night at sunset there was someone at the complex next door that played Amazing Grace on bagpipes which was a treat. With the ocean so close you can easily walk right out into the water to swim, surf, paddle board, etc. if conditions are good enough. I probably would have given this 5 stars if not for the water quality, which is probably the same all over this island, and the fact that the floor tile was not really clean (we spilled something and when wiping it up the paper towel was filthy and not from what we had done) and that a large bowl we got out of the cabinet was obviously dirty. I would recommend this place though.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Good to know you enjoyed yourselves. What you thought was a dirty washer is actually the staining ability of the Maui dirt. You can actually color t-shirts using the Maui dirt. When you keep the sliding glass door open to enjoy the view once again the Maui dirt gets every where. Our cleaning person is one of the best on the island and she takes great pride in keeping her condos clean and fresh.

Very well equipped and beautifully decorated condo

  • 5 of 5

We just completed a stay at this condo and we were extremely pleased. It has a great bar table on the lanai to watch whales and the sunset. I would definitely stay here again!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful unit for 2 or 3 people in a lovely condominium complex (only 18 units). The grounds are lovely and the views are spectacular (especially of the whales this time of year!). The unit is very nice with everything you will need for your stay. We have come here for years and will be coming for many more!

Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are sitting on the lanai as I write this, watching the surf roll in and trying to motivate ourselves to go to the car and leave for the airport because we don't want to leave. We feel so fortunate to have found this place on our first trip to Maui. It's the kind of place you can look for in vain for years. We lucked out the first time. There is no need to search further. We will certainly be coming back.

Pam was terrific to work with as we booked the property. We arrived to a spotlessly clean, attractively decorated home overlooking the ocean and a marvelous view to the west, with unbelievable sunsets if the clouds are right. The building and grounds are very quiet and everyone staying here seems mellow and friendly. We experienced much of nature's variety, including the ebb and flow of our beach sand! Lahaina town is a short drive south - a charming place to stroll, look at art and get a bite to eat. We recommend a show in town called 'Ulelana for an amazing overview of Hawaiian culture and history by fabulous performers. Various necessities can be found about a ten minute walk south of the complex - a "Farmer's Market" and deli, coffee shop, places to rent snorkling/surf equipment, places to eat (we recommend the crab cakes at "The Fish Market, Maui"). Three or so miles up the road north, there are slack key guitar concerts at the Napili Kai resort every Wednesday night that we loved. Next door to Napali Kai is Merriman's restaurant - a place for a special dinner or pupus at the bar. We opted for pupus at the bar three times during our two week stay. Meriman's has impeccably great food, though it will put a dent in the pocketbook.

We could go on and on about the merits of this place, but we are a little reluctant to let the secret out.

Even Better the Second Time!

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to Maui and to Pam's condo was three years ago, and it was so perfect we came back this year. Hoyochi Nikko is quiet, friendly, conscientiously tended by the resident manager, and the view from the condo is breathtaking. We spent many hours on the lanai, listening to the birds and watching the waves. We snorkeled right out in front (and to the right), and encountered colorful fish and several sea turtles! Pam's recommendation for fabulous take-out from Okazuya just up the road was spot on - we've been there twice and echo her recommendation. We found Prison Street Pizza in Lahaina, and would recommend it, too. Find your own Maui favorites - but Pam's condo at Hoyochi Nikko will be the high-point of your trip.
