Captiva House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 2500 square feet (Sleeps 10)

This beautiful home is extremely close to the ocean and a Florida sugar sand beach which is often uninhabited except by wading birds, ghost crabs, osprey and snook. This property features direct beach access so you can walk right onto the beach and into the Gulf of Mexico located about 100 steps from our front door. North Captiva Island features some of the most secluded beaches in the continental United States. Many times of the year, your family may be the only ones on the beach.

North Captiva Island is only accessible by water taxi and there are no cars on the island. Transportation on the island is by golf cart which is provided with your rental, walking or bicycle. There are no paved roads, only sandy paths winding through tropical vegetation. It is truly a unique setting. Palm trees, gumbo limbo trees and beautiful flowers are everywhere.

Our favorite activities are fishing, shelling, swimming and exploring the beach and state land. There are a large number of wading birds, gopher tortoises, raccoons, brown pelicans, osprey, egrets, cormorants, bald eagles, ibis and sanderlings. There are two very nice swimming pools maintained by our island club a short walk or golf cart drive from our house. Kayaks and bicycles are also available at no charge through the island club. Tarpon, sea trout, red fish, snook, and snapper may be caught from the shore. Shelling is a daily activity on the island. North Captiva is often described as the shelling capital of North America.

Our house, Perfect Placement, is beautifully appointed and completely remodeled after hurricane Charlie. The kitchen is large and modern with Corian counters, new appliances and gulf views. The house is large enough that 2 families of four can stay comfortably. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor: a master bedroom with a gulf view and a guest bedroom with a double bed. There are 2 full baths on the first floor. On the second floor there is a large bedroom with a private porch and an excellent gulf view which could serve as a second master bedroom. There is also a bunk bed room with 2 sets of bunk beds providing sleeping for 4. Both bedrooms share a hall bath.

Because the house is on the west shore of North Captiva we are often witness to stunning sunsets which can be observed from your bedroom or the back deck. Don't forget your camera to help capture some memories. If you are lucky you may see Dolphin playing in the surf, Tarpon showing past the first breakers and the legendary stoop of the brown pelican fishing. This has got to be one of the prettiest and most unusual places you will ever see.

About Alicia Kahler

Our family includes Mark and Becky and our 7 children, and 3 dogs (an Airedale and 2 Shihtzus). We have 4 children married, 1 grown and working in Maine, 2 in college. Mark is a FP physician in Kansas City and Becky is a homemaker who loves children, animals, jail ministry, and working with kids in the inner city.

Alicia Kahler purchased this house in 2001

Why Alicia Kahler chose Florida

We love the island, the trees, flowers and the uncrowded beaches. We have had our best vacations here walking the beach, playing games, praying, reading and enjoying the wildlife.

What makes this house unique

This home is a 10 second walk to the beach from our front door. We have one of the few homes on the island which has direct beach access. Driving around the island in the golf cart observing island flora and fauna is unique to this place. We are members of the North Captiva Island Club and you will have access to all the amenities of the Club including 2 large swimming pools and a hot tub when you stay in our home. The beaches are the least crowded we have ever been on. The nighttime stars are spectacular and we have watched sea turtles digging a nest on the side of our house.

Awesome House

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at North Captiva in Perfect Placement. The location of the house was great. It is close enough that our 4 year old daughter could walk from the house to the beach with no problems. The house was very clean and everything worked without problems. We loved the outdoor seating although we didn't get to use it as much due to frequent rain showers. There was an assortment of games, even our family's favorite game Settlers of Catan! Alicia was very quick to respond and very helpful. I am a runner and the trail going toward the south part of the island was very close (really everything is close on the island). If you are a runner this is a really nice trail!

A few little things would have made this a 5 star:

1) Park style grill - I have a Big Green Egg and while I don't expect everyone to have one, but the park style grills are about the last thing I want to grill on. I know the salt makes the cheaper grills deteriorate quickly but it would be nice to have something with a little more temperature control. (A Big Green Egg would actually withstand the salt and would be an outstanding addition)

2) SUP or Kayak - The club does have kayaks but it would have been nice to have something right there at the house

3) Beach Umbrella - we had clouds almost the entire week which made this less of an issue but for a week of sun with little kids this would have been a must.

4) Beach toys - there are some buckets and shovels, which we did appreciate and use, but a couple boogie boards would have been fun.

These are small things but given that the island isn't the easiest to get to and we flew from Arkansas these are the things that would have made it a 5 star.

Overall this is a great house for 1-2 large families. There is plenty of room to move around and relax. The views are wonderful, the beds were comfortable, there was ample seating. The kitchen supplies were ample and there was plenty of cups/plates/cutlery.

There are turtle nests on the island although we didn't get to see one. We saw plenty of manatees and dolphins, thankfully no sharks. We didn't fish but rode the ferry with some guys who did and caught some really nice ones. If you and your family are looking to get away from it all then we do recommend Perfect Placement.

Annual Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5

We love our annual vacations on N. Cap! 5 yrs we've been renting both Perfect Placement and Beach's Edge. Best locations on the island! South end, gulf side, quite. Perfect Placement has a great layout for young children and functional seating for gathering and eating! Large decks and a screened in porch are awesome with great views. Such a relaxing, beach trip. So much fun for our children - never have to put on shoes!

This place is perfectly places!!

  • 5 of 5

Our families meet every year and choose a place to stay on the gulf and this house was perfect!! We had kids ages 3-10 and we spent half the day at the beach (across the street, AWESOME views too!) and the other half of the day at the pool. You are 5 minutes by golf cart to the pool or 10 minute walk. You only have a one minute walk to the beach! We will be booking again!

A Stunning Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I vacationed here this past winter. The home truly is its namesake "Perfect Placement", I can't imagine a better location on the beach! The home is beautiful, relaxing and was the perfect size for us to share with another family with young kids as the home layout offers two spacious and very functional bedrooms on BOTH floors of the house. The home felt very peaceful and has a breathtaking view of the ocean from the "master" bedrooms on both floors. The living area is spacious and offered more beautiful views of the ocean.

I would absolutely go again and will recommend this as a perfect vacation spot for friends and family looking for a relaxing and inspiring beach getaway! It was a little piece of heaven on earth :)

Really is a perfect placement

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Perfect Placement the first week of March. There were 7 of us (including a 5yo and a 6 month old). There was plenty of space. Everything was clean. The location of the house is absolutely perfect. Steps from the beach. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch. We ate out there most meals. The sunsets were perfect!

We loved the feel of the island life. Slow pace. We really enjoyed access to North Captiva Island Club. We went to the pool most days. We played tennis one day. Rented bikes (free) one day and Kayaks another day. We rented a boat one day and really enjoyed exploring nearby islands. We only ate out twice. Once at the pool bar for lunch. And then on our last night we ate at Barnacles. It seemed a little pricey but since we just did it once, it wasn't too bad.

I had read a review that someone said they wish they had packed more food and less clothes. Even after reading that I still felt the same way. I wore 1/4 of the clothes I brought- I pretty much lived in my swimsuit and coverup. And we ended up ordering more groceries half-way through the week. I would suggest adding bottled water to your grocery list. We initially didn't do that, but the tap water tasted a little funny. We had a great experience ordering our groceries through Sandie and having them delivered to the house.

I would highly recommend staying here and hope to come back myself. This is a great place to get away from the busyness of life.
