Stayed in the property over labor day weekend while in Georgetown for a family wedding. We appreciated being able to rent this place by the night since we were unable to spend a whole week in Maine after school had started at home. Regardless, we reserved the place early and are glad we did because nightly lodgings in the area seem hard to come by.
The listing was pretty accurate although I'm not sure sleeping 12 would work for 12 adults. We had 8 people and the youngest was 16 - he stayed on a cot we brought with a single futon mattress that was on hand. We had 2 in loft, 2 in twin room, 2 in master and 1 in full bedroom. I'd say the house sleeps 8 though there is a big couch in the living room that looked comfortable for sleeping, and the 3rd floor couch could be slept on, but swapping a futon there would help.
The house was clean and we liked that it was furnished with interesting antiques and comfortable furniture. It had many places to congregate, front porch, back porch, deck, living room, that were each great for different times of day and weather. We had visitors stopping by at various times because we were near the local lobster restaurant/harbor, everyone liked the property and its hub-location.
We would have liked a few more dining room chairs (dragged the kitchen ones in) and a usable closet in the master bedroom (it was locked), but the biggest and easy improvement would be to add some curtains to the 3rd floor since that room gets bright early, even though it's a wonderful place to view sunrise, sleeping-in is not easy.
Kids missed wifi and only tv was on 3rd floor, but no one (except 16 year old) cared about that. Parking for 3 cars was available - street parking can be limited on weekends due to lobster restaurant.
Alison was easy to deal with and we would recommend this place to vacationers if you are coming to this picturesque area.
A 15 minute drive will take you to the charming, historic city of
Bath where boutiques and antique shops will delight the shoppers in the family. There are also museums and several art galleries to be explored in the area. Many other fine dining opportunities abound here. The Bath library is fully equipped and tourist-friendly.
Five islands is a wonderful place for a quiet getaway in the off
season. You have the beaches and trails to yourself and the scenery, especially in the fall, is absolutely breathtaking! Enjoying coffee and a good book on our glass-enclosed porch overlooking the natural beauty of the area can be just what the doctor ordered!
There are many year round family events, festivals, music and fairs!
Other Activities: Boating, kayaking, art galleries
