Upstairs: master bedroom with king size bed and ensuite bathroom. Panoramic view of Les Alpilles mountains including the Rock with Two Holes immortalized by Vincent Van Gogh.

About The Owner

We purchased and renovated a 'mas' property in the countryside in 1985 when we fell in love this this wonderful corner of Provence. In the early 90's we opened a cooking school there so that we could fulfill our dream of living full time in Saint Remy. We have since retired but live full time in our farmhouse.

Why The Owner chose Alpilles

Saint Remy de Provence is the quintessential village town in Provence and while its shops and restaurants reflect the fine tastes of its affluent visitors and many full and part time residents with interesting backgrounds, beneath the surface is a town of hard working local people, many of whom have been farmers for generations. It is also one of the friendliest places we have ever lived, on your second visit to any shop or restaurant don't be surprised if they remember who you are. Food and wine does not get any better than here and you are you are experiencing living history from Roman to medieval to the modernistic Gare TGV in Avignon.

What makes this villa unique

Location, location, location - the chemin de la Croix du Canal on Place Mireille is just a few minutes walk to the center of Saint Remy yet at the same time you feel like you living in the country thanks to the grove of mature olive trees just across from the canal and you look up and see our beloved Alpilles mountains whose rock formations inspired Vincent Van Gogh who spent a year at the asylum near the Roman antiquities of Glanum, all just meters away from this property.

St. Remy de Provence villa was perfection!

My Dear Mr. Carpita,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your charming house, which we found to have absolutely everything one would require anywhere. It was better equipped than any vacation rental in which we have ever stayed, including a marvelous view. The location was great for walking into town, to the market, to shops and great restaurants. The local residents were very friendly, and always helpful with information and advice.

I should tell you; however, on our first night there (either in our locked courtyard, or in a parking lot in town), our GPS was stolen from the car. Fortunately, we managed just fine with our laptop for a guide, and visited many, many "most beautiful villages" , including Le Baux, which was magnificent! Anyone would love staying here!

Wonderful Property and Location

We loved our (too short) 5 day stay here. The previous reviews are very thorough and accurate so it's hard to think of things to add. We moved in and instantly felt at home. I loved the gorgeous view of the mountains from the sun porch and patio, where we spent a lot of our time. We also had the upstairs bedroom and woke up every morning with a stunning view. The kitchen is well stocked and easy to cook in. The villa is situated back from the street, so it feels very private and quiet. There's lots to explore in St. Remy, which is so walkable. We didn't have nearly enough time to explore the area. David is a very hospitable host and his book of recommendations is thorough and up-to-date. There's also a library of guidebooks and cookbooks from the area. I would have loved to stay longer and hope to return again for a longer stay. Thank you David and Nito for a great vacation.

A Perfect Place in Provence

When we travel, we try to avoid hotels and short stays. We like to find an apartment or villa and settle in for several days or weeks to become part of the neighborhood or town. It's a fantasy for sure but it really enhances our travel fun. This cozy villa and its gregarious owners were a perfect fit for us. First, the location is so easy to get to and travel from. St. Remy de-Provence is a perfect place to settle for a few days. We like to delve into history and culture of a place, as well as food and drink. We had more than enough to explore, both on foot and by car. The region is fascinating and the landscape is mesmerizing. You can just stay around town or travel to other sights and towns. Both well-known and obscure but marvelous vineyards and wineries are easy outings for a day or just a few hours. Travel into town from the villa is completely walkable. Markets, restaurants, bakeries, wine bars, fun shopping, luxury shopping, necessities shopping--everything is a 5 minute walk away. We went in mid-October and found the sunny climate less hot than summer and very pleasant. We were two couples so the layout fit us perfectly--one bedroom with bath upstairs and one bedroom with bath on the ground level. There is also a separate WC (toilet and sink) on the ground level so you can entertain and still have privacy on the ground level. We also like to alternate between eating out and eating in. We did some actual cooking, as well as eating meals consisting of our "hunting and gathering" efforts. The Wednesday market offered such a bounty that we bought more than we ended up eating in our 5 day stay. The well-equipped kitchen is part of what makes this villa so livable. The villa itself has such a pleasant front courtyard and sunroom that we rarely used the living room and dining room, which are decorated with beautiful traditional French country fabrics and furniture and give the whole experience a lift. The villa is both stunningly beautiful and well-conceived for actual living. Finally, David and Nito were exceptional hosts--providing such a friendly welcome and so many good suggestions that each day was well-spent and memorable. We would return in a heartbeat.

Very comfortable and clean, private yet short walk to civilization

We were three family members to stay in this lovely house for a week, mid spring, before the Mediterranean heat of summer. Bedrooms, one upstairs, one down, were comfortably appointed, each with own spacious bathroom. Throughout very clean and welcoming. The very sunny courtyard was the perfect place for morning coffee and late afternoon drinks. As a chef I appreciated the well-equipped kitchen. Living room sofa could be a tad more comfortable, but we found ourselves sitting on it very rarely! Best of all is location of this house! So easy by car to reach Provençal sites, day excursions to the Luberon, wine regions, Arles, Avignon, a little further to the Camargue, but doable in a day. Everyday provisions were easily accessed on foot at a grocery not ten-minutes walk toward town; another few minutes beyond there are restaurants to appeal to any price range. Don't miss the Wednesday market! I stocked up on local olive oils, and there is much much more to explore among the stalls. Many thanks to David for making the booking so easy to accomplish. It really was the perfect place for us.

French Countryside Bliss

I have used VRBO/HomeAway several times, from quick getaways to length stays, parties large and small. Never have I received better service than with David and few homes have surpassed the comfort, quality and convenience of this cozy Provençal abode. From the inside out, the home boasts repose and charm, with walls adorning vintage décor including several antique armoires, a grandfather clock and cushy formal living room furniture, along with all the means of a home-away-from-home. The kitchen was small but completely functional and accessible, with a large fridge close by.

The master suite upstairs was wonderful, with an adjoining en suite restroom comprised of wide counters, a full-length mirror and a surprisingly spacious shower, plus additional closet space. The master is equipped with a (real!) king bed and large armoire. A second bedroom is located on the main floor with a second half-bath (full restroom with shower) next door and an additional toilet-only restroom next to that.

The best part was the sunroom, featuring floor-to-ceiling window-doors that could open up fully to the huge and private front-of-the-house patio. This is the main entry, with plenty of locked doors to feel safe at night – although, who would be worried in this adorable town? – and also connects the entire house to this open, expansive atmosphere.

Location was perfect – just set enough outside of the main corridor to be quiet and required a five minute stroll in if you did want the noise.

St. Remy is amazing. Whatever your desires, you can find them in this dreamy, picturesque French country village. Restaurants are spectacular, shopping is lovely and the Wednesday farmers market should not be missed! Not to mention the Roman ruins, history and overall stunning sights of the region.

I couldn’t recommend this house more as a St. Remy residence or hub for touring Provence. Thank you, David!

Wonderful Home Away From Home

This vllla is wonderfully situated on the outskirts of St. Remy, close enough to walk to shopping, restaurants and the town center, but far enough away for peace and quiet. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large and roomy, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen well-equipped. The photos really don't do the place justice. The owner, David, is a pleasure to deal with. We found St. Remy to be the perfect location for exploring Provence, and would definitely return to St. Remy and to this property.
