About Adrian

As a globe trotting family Eagles Nest was our choice in the world for our family home with Sidney and Victoria the friendly communities we chose to land in; like so many other like minded people. We have updated and equipped Eagles Nest for visitors to allow us to continue to share our wonderful piece of paradise.

Adrian purchased this house in 1990

Why Adrian chose Vancouver Island

We love this location for the water, the wildlife (it is on the migratory seabird pathway) the walks along the shore and into town, the nearby marinas and restaurants for a morning breakfast walk... it is one of the most sheltered low bank waterfronts in the area and perfect for kayaking, clamming and just soaking up birds and otters of Roberts Bay.

What makes this house unique

Pink sunrises silhouetting a distant snow capped Mount Baker and glinting off duck trails across the mirrored waters of Roberts Bay bird sanctuary. Watching colorful kayakers launching nearby to explore Gulf Islands National park. Amble along tree lined All Bay road to coffee shops, corner store, massage therapists, fine dining and pubs intermingled with the marinas and yacht charters. Walk a mile or so the other way past the Thai and fish and chip cafe, the Library and Town Hall to Sidney with all its busy charm and pedestrian friendly activities. The Eagles Nest suite is the entire upper level (1500 sq ft) of this waterfront house. Living room with gas fireplace, sun room, three outdoor patios, two bedrooms (queen) and (double + twin), two bathrooms plus a separate TV/media room with a queen sofa bed. The house is equipped to make you feel at home, including libraries of music, videos and books as well as board games. For those comfortable on the water, two sit-on-top kayaks are available to explore the sheltered bay. Binoculars and a telescope are provided those enjoying morning coffee in the sun room overlooking the bay or for gazing at the night skies. A spacious kitchen with attached patio allows for shared culinary productions and barbeque masters. This special vacation home is intended for couples and families who enjoy a peaceful waterfront environment while also providing ready access to the activities and facilities of the quaint town of 'Sidney-by-the-Sea.' While a short walk to Sidney's Main St there are also two fine restaurants, a coffee shop, convenience store and masseuse within a 5 minute walk to the Marina and harbour area. For those wishing to visit the Gulf Islands or spend a day in Vancouver without taking the car, there is a frequent bus service that connects with ferries will take you anywhere you need to might want to be...

Guestbook comments from the manager

“What a magical place, we had the most wonderful week staying at Eagles Nest on Roberts Bay. The house is large clean and comfortably furnished and feels like a home. With 3 large sofas in the lounge , 2 comfy chairs in the sun room we had ample room to relax together or apart! We made the most of the extra touches and used the gas barbecue and the guys went out in the kayaks. We had more towels than we could ever use and the kitchen was fully equipped. Thank you Adrian we will never forget our week here.”

Wonderful ocean-side home-away-from-home

  • 5 of 5

Eagle's Nest was a perfect vacation home for me and my niece, we both LOVED it and highly recommend it. It's clean, well maintained, comfortable and beautifully furnished, with large windows that bring the ocean indoors. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped; the BBQ grill is large and high quality, as are the washer and dryer. Both bedrooms are nice, especially the master, with a highly organized walk-in closet and attached 1/2-bath. If you need a 3rd bedroom, the media room has a sofa bed and a door for privacy. The bathrooms are clean and nice, with a good shower and big tub. The free long-distance internet phones work fine in the media room. This rental is as described and pictured on vrbo - be sure to watch the video.

The patio overlooking the ocean is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner, as is the bistro table (for 2) in the sun room. You will undoubtedly find yourself sitting in the sun room, rain or shine, watching the ocean – what a beautiful view. My niece and I easily launched the kayaks from the backyard, and we enjoyed walking along the tidal flat when the tide was out.

This rental is easy to get to and is in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. It's ideally situated to: the ferries at Swartz Bay (5 minute drive), Van Isle Marina with its beautiful yachts and wonderful Sea Glass Waterfront Grill (5 minute walk), downtown Sidney (which is both cute and practical; 3 minute drive), and the Victoria International Airport (12 minute drive). It was easy to get to Butchart Gardens and the Cowichan Valley by car, and the bus to Victoria was very convenient. We had initially considered staying on one of the smaller islands (Salt Spring, etc.) but Eagle's Nest has a huge advantage if you want to explore Vancouver Island like we did – you aren't at the mercy of the ferry schedules except for visiting the smaller islands.

Adrian, the owner, is considerate, friendly, and available by phone or email. He responded quickly to my inquiries and requests, and made us feel very welcome.

Comfy, clean house. Roberts Bay is beautiful

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the stay and loved Roberts Bay. The bird wildlife is amazing and we always had a seal to accompany us when we were kayaking and paddle boarding. The house was very comfy, clean and had lots of deck space to escape to. The owner and family were great to deal with and allowed us to use a couple of their kayaks which the kids had lots of fun on.

Adrian was very accommodating to our irregular travel plans. His home is exceptional and everything you need to have or need to know is made available to you. Sitting in the sun room to watch the sunrise over the bay is an experience I highly recommend as it will make your friends back home very jealous when you share your pictures (trust me!) Renting in Sidney is highly recommended as less hustle and bustle than Victoria but it's an easy trip to Victoria for a visit. Our stay was too short but I will be back.

spring and early summer

  • 4 of 5

We recently enjoyed a lengthy stay at Eagle's Nest in beautiful Sidney BC. This property is very conveniently located near the ferry terminal and international airport for Victoria. The most impressive thing about Eagle's Nest is the view looking out over Roberts Bay straight over to Mount Baker in Washington state.

We were very fortunate to have had amazing weather for the entire two months of our stay which made for great sunrises and we found ourselves getting up early enough each day to watch the wildlife in bay begin the day.

The house is clean and well equipped and the furniture is comfortable. Very good beds and bedding also. The kitchen is bright, large and well positioned to allow for good interaction while preparing meals. The landlord has thought of just about everything in fitting out this beautiful home with all the right amenities. We really enjoyed our time there and have made plans for a return trip next year. Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time for this kind review. This was quite a change for you coming from your island home in Barbados. We were so glad that you were able to enjoy Eaglesnest as a base to reconnect with family and friends while enjoying all that our island has to offer.

Eagles Nest Home in Sidney

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I with our two teenage daughters had a wonderful experience in Sidney staying at the Eaglesnest. The home was wonderful and situated just outside of Sidney directly on the bay with direct access to the beach. The view's from the home are breathtaking with the water front, Eagle's, seals, birds and Mount Baker in the distance. The marina is only 3 blocks away and has a fantastic restaurant (Seaglass) that is a must. Everything about the home was perfect. The home has two bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, full kitchen, large washer/dryer, living room, sunroom and two balconies that face the ocean with one that leads directly to the ocean. The photos do not do justice to this location. You get more than what you see! Sidney has much to offer and is a small town with such charm. Best whale watching is Sidney Whale watching! Ask for Mike. We saw over 40 Orca whales with other wildlife!! Overall this home is fantastic and has direct access to the water, the town of Sidney, the marina, bus route if needed, beachcombing, shell hunting, wildlife viewing, relaxing, incredible views, kayak's in the back yard for use, whale watching and almost anything you need is here. Our family made lifetime memories in the week we spent at the Eaglesnest home.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review. We were so pleased to see how much you enjoyed Eaglesnest and you certainly made the most of your visit. From your two whale watching experiences, the bicycling to Victoria, Butchart Gardens and your last night taking in our cute retro Cinema to see Cinderella. We love to have active guests like your family and hope to see you again soon.

Watching the ducks

  • 5 of 5

A very pleasant month spent here. We had the upper floor of a house on the shore with lovely views looking over the water and the islands and to a snow covered Mount Baker in the distance. Our host was very welcoming and the apartment very comfortable. Situated on the outskirts of Sidney and very central for easy access to many attractions, 10 minutes drive to the airport and to the ferry terminal and a very good bus service round the corner. We highly recommend it

People often ask about going to downtown Victoria or to Vancouver. Of course one can drive in 25 minutes or you can also take the bus which stop every half hour nearby to either city... and fares are as low as $2.50 And of course downtown Sidney is just a 20 minute walk or quick car ride to all of the complete shops, bar, hotels and services that the town provides so well.
