I built this home for my family. The kids are grown and we are ready to share it with visitors who can appreciate the seclusion and unique views of the Sonoran desert. From here we enjoy walks on the desert, Indian ruins and petroglyphs, and all a major metropolitan center has to offer with 20 minutes or so.
We were looking for a special place to build, on the edge of the desert in the Cave Creek area. We sent out 20 letters to land owners with property on the edge of the national forest and one owner responded, who had ten acres he would sell. Over the years I have enjoyed creating a desert oasis where the birds and wildlife come to feed and water. It is a unique location that any nature lover is sure to enjoy. There is a huge selection of native plants, cactus and trees surrounding the home and casita.
This is our home. We have enjoyed it every day of the last 15 years. When we have visitors, we know they are enjoying the seclusion, the views and the wildlife as well as the pleasures of the house itself (some say it is like a museum)
My husband and I could not have chosen a more perfect place to stay for our wedding vow renewal of 40 years. We felt like we were staying in a comfy, but elegant art museum. We'll be back, soon I hope.
If you want a quiet, serene location with big views that just don't quit, this is it. Words can not truly express this oasis. The owner is an experienced gardener, no need to go see the desert plant botanical gardens, as it is all right here for you to enjoy in the yard hour after hour. Plus the Tonto park starts right where the backyard ends, so the back yard really never ends until it finds the mountains in all directions miles away. Literally thousands of cacti in any direction you look.
Nature walks start at your back door with easy walking, biking, and hiking trails. More challenging trails can be found too. Bird life abounds here, with regular hummingbird visits all day. Lots of wildlife to see for those with a keen eye, always something moving or making sounds so you always have something to entertain you.
Plenty of room and privacy in the spacious house for everyone, with tons of windows to enjoy the views. Ample decorations throughout to allow you to browse like a museum. Kitchen is well equipped with practically every tool you could need. Bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds. There are no street lights in the neighborhood, so it is dark at night, but there is plenty of outdoor ambient lighting to make for short strolls around the property, with star gazing country style.
Night life is crickets and coyote howls, with back yard sunsets that go on for hours.
The back yard is sloped with flat areas, and nice brick pathways down to the pool and spa areas. Some might find the slope to much if you are not sure footed. With the amount of cacti little ones which have not learned to not touch will be teary eyed.
Lots of groceries and restaurants to choose from starting about 20 minutes away, so a car is a must.
We found it hard to leave, and we want to come back, repeatedly.
If you want to experience the best kept secret in our state visit the Tonto Forest and stay at Jim's beautiful main house or in his casita. We have lived in Arizona for 40 years . Our adult children have grown up here and love the outdoors. We all had a wonderful reunion at TontoRanch. We rented both the house and the casita for our group. I can't say enough wonderful things about the owner, his property, the views, and Tonto Forest. We hiked and went mountain biking and enjoyed the views from the houses. If you are not familiar with this area, this is a unique desert experience. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.
We rented this house for my 30th birthday. My family flew in from Colorado and were in shock when we walked in the front door! The pictures do not do this house justice. We spent our days hiking, swimming, and listening to the coyotes at night. The backyard is beautiful with an endless view of the Tonto National Forest. We can't stop talking about when our next vacation here will be!
We were very surprised when we arrived. This wasn't what we were expecting. This is far better than anything we had anticipated! This isn't just a rental property.... it is a beautiful home with everything you could need for a great vacation. The property is gorgeous with the Tonto National Forest as your backyard with plenty of trails to keep you busy looking for the petroglyphs. The pool , hot tub and out door grill add to the whole outdoor experience. The house is a comfortable museum of SW decor that pulls you into the whole SW experience, and very relaxing with fireplaces, sitting areas, beautiful kitchen and dining area. It has it all. The master suite is huge! I rated this 5 stars only because they don't have 10. The owner is very accommodating and called us to be sure we had everything we needed. He even set up a Christmas tree for our arrival. We had older adults and college age kids and they all had a great time. We so hope that we can get back. The perfect Christmas vacation. We loved it!
This was an excellent experience as the home was in perfect order and so well stocked! Jim, the owner, was responsive and patient to our numerous questions. He was easy to work with during the entire rental process. The trip was a perfect combination of relaxation and exploration. The area is an easy drive to sites in the Verde Valley as well as Sedona. The area is surrounded by lakes and hiking trails in the Tonto National Forest. Morning greeted us with a chorus of doves, Gambel's quail, various songbirds, and toads. The sight of the desert flora in the surrounding forest, amazing desert landscaping, birds bathing in the waterfall and dining at feeders, and the infinity edged pool was awesome. The house is well decorated with authentic Native American pieces that are truly museum quality and exquisite western antiques. Everything about this rental and trip was perfect and fun! Sunshine everyday was SO welcome! We can't wait to return again someday...
My husband & his friend stayed at the Casita in October and they couldn't say enough positive things about the home & grounds. This got me more & more excited for our short visit this December. When we arrived, and I first walked through the gate, I thought I was in a private paradise! So BEAUTIFUL!
The inside of the home was equally as beautiful! I wish I was staying a month! The windows, overlooking the Tonto... We were lucky enough to have a full moon during our stay. It was so peaceful, with the reflection on the desert & all over the stars, just can't explain.
What a wonderful, accomandating man, Jim is too. Thank you!
So looking forward to our visit in June!
Petroglyphs within 1 3/4-2 miles, thousands of Saguaro cacti just out side your door step, great hiking, bike and horse trails
