Experience Lightner Creek- Durango's best-kept secret
(the movie 'City Slickers' was filmed at the end of the road)
Our secluded moutain chalet's entrance is over a private bridge, which crosses the beautiful Lightner Creek and winds through cottonwood trees up to the house. The chalet itself abuts the mountainside & has its own private trail up to the famed 'Mushroom Rocks' plateau (where you can find 1000 yr old Anasazi Indian artwork along the ridge). Look out the expansive windows & high beam aspen ceilings of the home & you will be breathtaken by a few acres of diverse, magnificently landscaped terrain. Some of the features are a private, spring-fed pond stocked with monster rainbows, a couple private beaches & fireplace area on Lightner Creek, & meadows of aspen, cottonwood, pine & fruit trees. It is worth mentioning the fenced-in acreage make great ball fields, playground for kids & adults alike (in the winter, you can sled down the base of the mountain).
The property itself was built in 1997 with expansive windows & high beam ceilings. We have recently remodeled much of the home, including new hardwood floors, river rock fireplace hearth & entire build-out of 1st floor, which includes a large, carpeted kids' playroom. All of the furniture and linens in the home are brand new, which include a beautiful office area w/reclining lounge chair for reading.
I'm sure you already know about all that Durango has to offer & will just mention again that our 24 secluded acres are less than 4 miles from downtown & all the exceptional restaurants.
Back to our location- we are surrounded on three sides by Perin's Peak State Park, which means some of the best hiking/biking is right out the front door (pick up a guidebook & you will see Dry Fork Loop, Colorado Trail, Twin Buttes, Barnroof Point & Perin's Peak are all within walking distance of our home). If you really want the mountain 'Durango experience,' while being close to historic downtown, you have found the ideal place. It is very rare to find a secluded 24 acres, with functional flat acreage, creek, natural pond and a private mountainside, just 5 minutes to town. Even if you don't stay with us the first time in Durango, please drive by & I bet you will call us on your next vacation to Durango.

Love all the green grass. Surrounded by the mountains. Not to far from town but not in town. Love love the creek. We got to see deer drinking from creek. The house was a perfect size for my family. With a beautiful view off the deck. Amazing!!!!

Fun Mountain Lodge
We had a great family vacation at this house! Loved the location- in the mountains on the creek but close to downtown Durango. The layout worked well for us with different suites on each floor and the mountain lodge décor is very comfortable and cozy . We had fun hiking up the hill behind the house to the mushroom rocks and hanging out outside on the decks and patio.
This home is very well-kept and has so many amenities that our family of 4 adults & 4 kids only ventured away to ski, ride the train and explore downtown Durango 3.5 out of the 6 days of our stay. The large windows, great wood-burning stove and spacious interior were so comfortable that we found ourselves simply relaxing, enjoying all the coziness and sharing great family meals around the large table. Our kids had a blast sledding, building snow forts & having snowball fights right on the gorgeous property and the adults enjoyed snow-shoeing as well as exploring the property and surrounding parks. The owners are very thoughtful in welcoming guests... they even left some lovely Christmas lights on for our arrival and what a lovely sight they made when we drove up! It's my understanding that the owners often utilize this home themselves so it isn't often available. But let me tell you, if you're lucky enough to get to stay here, you'll find the experience to be perfect.
This house comfortably slept 3 families totaling 12 people. The basement has a great open play area, and there were plenty of amenities for babies and young children (high chair, toys, books, plates and silverware, etc). Also, the fenced in yard was perfect for playing outside with the kids.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a great time in Durango!
Peaceful, Expansive, Gorgeous Home
This home made the entire visit to Durango even more memorable. It is set back from the road, on a quiet mountain pass - very peaceful surroundings! Even better, you get to enjoy the beautiful views from the windows that stretch across the full front of this house. It is amazing - we fit three families and all of our kids comfortably in the four large bedrooms. The beds were great - better than my own at home, and the living area was well decorated with lots of room for seating and eating.
We used the house as a launching pad for trips to Mesa Verde National Park (a must see - cliff dwellings), Animas Mountain (great hike with awesome views of the city), and Downtown Durango (also a must see - lots of great restaurants, bars, and breweries). I highly recommend this location, and look forward to returning.
Perfect for families and very comfortable
We had 3 families (including 6 kids ages 1-13!) staying here together, and the house was just perfect! We had access to everything we may have needed to make our stay comfortable, including lots of kid stuff--many toys, a large play room downstairs, kids books (all ages), a gated, safe front porch, high chair, plastic childrens plates/cups, etc. Seriously, it could not have been more comfortable. We didn't have time to take advantage of the hiking, but we all appreciated being close to town for getting together with other family members. The beautiful location can't be beat, and a big thanks to those who upkeep the property, as it was immaculate.
