Dauphin Island, Al is the i
I currently live in Mobile, Al. I am a teacher and I have always loved the ocean! My whole family likes to fish and I could not think of a better place to do that besides Dauphin Island. Another one of my favorite things to do is walk down the beach and hear the waves in this peace and calm environment. Dauphin Island is a quiet, family beach and does not have a lot of loud partying going on. The houses are spread apart enough to remedy that situation.
I like living only forty minutes away so that I can use this spacious house when it is not rented. It is also convenient to take care of maintenance problems if they occur. Maybe one day when I retire I will be able to use my dream house more often. I have seen many couples start their marriage by renting this house for their ceremony. I tell them their marriage must survive since the name of the house is "Survivor"!
Carol Haas purchased this house in 2006
This property has two master bedrooms with Jack-n-Jill bathrooms to a queen bedroom and a queen and two twins bedroom. There is a bedroom downstairs with a daybed that has a trundle you can use as a double bed or two twins. The rooms are very spacious and you don't feel cramped. The den, dining and kitchen are very spacious also and equipped with the latest and greatest! There is a Safire grill(like a big green egg), for grilling. There is an outdoor cooker for boiling shrimp and crabs etc. The house has an ice machine for your fishing needs. There is plenty of deck space on Bay side and on Gulf side. I try to make people feel at home when they are on vacation and this house is" Home Away From Home"!
We really enjoyed our time at Survivor! The location was ideal for kids ranging from littles to teens - the tiny ones had plenty of sand (and tons of sand toys) to play with in safety on the Bay side, and the teens and older kids loved the waves on the Gulf side. There was plenty of room for everyone - all of the closets are plenty large for either a playpen or a small child camp-out. The decks were lovely, and the fire pit was a great nightly treat. The swing and hammock down below provided hours of non-water-related fun. The kitchen was well stocked with all sizes of pots and pans, and there was plenty of room for several cooks and helpers. We maxed out the place, but never felt crowded as there is plenty of space to spread out both outside and in. Carol was very responsive to my many questions/requests prior to our trip, and was quick to respond when we couldn't get the ac to work, even though it was during the holidays. We thoroughly enjoyed Dauphin Island itself - it was the laid-back, relaxing place we were looking for. If we have the opportunity to return, we would happily book Survivor again!
We made reservations a year in advance for the whole family to meet for Thanksgiving. We do this every year. Most of the time we find places with tons of attractions to keep folks happy. This year we chose Dauphin Island and a great choice. Ended up finding out the whole family says we were so tired after thanksgiving it was a trial. This year at the Survivor it was a vacation. It was clean n ready when we arrived and plenty of open area for our folks. We selected rooms and brought in food and started enjoying this wonderful place. Then I got a call from Carol welcoming us and making sure we were ok. Awesome! It has its own beach on the gulf side and beach is across the road with a short short walk. They have a ton of sand toys and outside stuff. The kids were able to walk around and explore within our eyeshot because of the huge decks and property. There is things to do in the area but we soon just got back to playing family games and everyone cooking together. They had a huge assortment of games for the kids. TV's in all the rooms but still again the open area aloud folks just to visit all day. The whole fam were putting in there votes to call Carol to rent this for next year as we have enjoyed being a close family again
Wanted to let you know the bath tub on the west side of the house was very slow. It would hardly drain.
Otherwise the house was perfect!
We stayed a week at Survivor with the family (11 in total). From my parents down to the grandkids. The owners answered any questions I had in a timely manner and were there to make our stay awesome. We loved spending time on the beach playing in the water and fishing. The decks on the back of the house were perfect for hanging out and taking in the great views. The kids loved having their own room and playing hide and seek in the big house. We all fit around the large dinning table to enjoy dinner together. All in all, it was a great time. For the accommodations and price, you can't go wrong with Survivor.
In my opinion you can't do better than Survivor. Its big, close to the water, modern and clean. The owners (Carol) are perfect and dedicated. Three of us spent four days and can't wait to come back. Fishing in the back yard was awesome as was the sun and sand. The house is spacious, well appointed, completely operational and very clean. The entire experience was much more than we expected. Carol has thought of, and provided, everything... We really over-packed not knowing what to expect. Don't hestitate on this property, you can't go wrong. JC
We loved Survivor. We had 3 families and 11 people and we were all able to spread out and have plenty of space. The decks were wonderful. I especially liked that the upper deck on the first floor was raised to have no obstruction of the beautiful panoramic view of the sound. We spent hours watching the birds and the sunsets. The children loved the hermit crabs in the sound. It was also just a short walk to the gulf side for the bigger waves. The house had lots of linens and a fully stocked kitchen. We will be back next year!
