About the property

Featured on the Travel Channel's Amazing Vacation Homes!

Fortunately, some of the most beautiful places on earth can be experienced without the cost and responsibility of actually owning them. Red Canyon Ranch in the Black Hills is no exception. Situated high atop the Black Hills historic red-limestone canyon, the location of the original route into the Hills for both Native Americans and the white settlers that followed, Red Canyon Ranch is a monument to the cowboy lifestyle, with elements of luxury and style that most cowboys have probably never seen. The cabin is a lodge-pole pine dwelling, in the tradition of an aged lodge. It offers full views of Red Canyon from three sides, rustic floors and cabinetry with natural dry-stack, slate fireplace in the living room, and master bedroom, sleeping accommodations for 6 people. An outdoor hot tub that nearly floats above the canyon’s edge makes night bathing under the stars a life-time memory.

There Are No Better Black Hills Views: On a clear day, Red Canyon offers extraordinary views to its east, where sheer red walls and jutting peaks accentuate the awesome powers that went into its creation, as well as the intricacies of its meandering path. To the west, the dense clustering of centuries-old Ponderosa pine easily explains how the area came to be known as the “Black”Hills, while a further gaze acknowledges, through beautiful open prairie, that Red Canyon does indeed have an end, and that Wyoming lies beyond.

You'll Love Our Neighbors: Red Canyon is home to the most diverse wildlife population in all of the Black Hills. Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Eagles, Mountain Lions and Turkeys are common sightings whose perpetuation helped with your participation in the rental of Red Canyon Ranch. It is because of this reputation for such varied and protected wildlife that the Red Canyon area was chosen to host the introduction of a starter herd of Rocky Mountain sheep.

These cliff-dwelling animals are expected to migrate to Red Canyon as soon as the sub-groups go off to establish their own herds, eventually becoming a welcome addition to ever day life on the Ranch.

Explore The Best Part Of The Black Hills: The southern Black Hills holds something for everyone and every taste.Nestled among the rolling hills are a multitude of quaint towns and cities, offering shopping, dining, and tourist attractions that could easily fill your day with smiles. The area also hosts some of the country’s most beautiful parks and well-known monuments, all within a short and scenic drive from each other.

At the Founder's Cabin, you'll have thousands of acres to explore whether hiking or horseback riding across this historic property.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Founders Cabin in the historic Red Canyon was absolutely wonderful! Awesome views of the canyon and we enjoyed clears nights which was amazing for star gazing!!! The cabin is 20-30 min from the main highways, but is worth it! We enjoyed Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Mount Rushmore. We did a day trip to Bad Lands National Park. Shopped at Dakotamart in Custer for any groceries needed for the evening at the cabin. :-) Thank you Lori for the stay!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Dina for such a nice review. We try to anticipate and provide everything a guest would need to ensure a great stay. The canyon is spectacular and we tried to position of the cabin on the edge to take full advantage of the views. The big glass windows certainly help! Lori

Amazing cabin! Beautiful & relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We were at this cabin to celebrate an anniversary. It was a beautiful and comfortable place. We enjoyed the hot tub daily and even cooled off enough one night so we could have a fire. (We stayed in August ). We grilled every night and even watched a few movies in the heat of the day. We would highly recommend staying at the Red Canyon Cabin.

Thank you Lori!
