This property was inherited last year and I am managing it on behalf of myself and my brothers. I live in Berkeley California and own and operate a restaurant there. I visit Taos frequently.
The Owner purchased this house in 2008
This is an inherited home. Our Grandparents, Murl and Lucy Packard built the home in the late 1940's. They owned and operated the Plaza Supermarket, the main grocery store in Taos from the early 1940's to the 1970's. Grandpa served on the Taos City Council and was instrumental in the construction of the Gorge Bridge over the Rio Grande. Our Mother, Rosemarie Packard was president of the Taos Chamber of comnmerce during the 1990's and cared for her parents here untill their passing. Rosemarie passed away in 2008. This house was a special place for all of us, filled with laughter and family gatherings. We hope your stay here fills you with the same good feelings.
Taos is fantastic any time of year but especially for its world famous skiing and summer rafting on the Rio Grande. Many cultural activities and an amazing array of neat shops and fine restaurants for a small town. Of course Taos pueblo is a must see. The location of this property is prime. Easy strolling to downtown plaza and all of the shops, taverns and restaurants as well as the local Farmers Market around the corner. Slightly north of the plaza in the more upscale part of town, it provides easy access without the center town traffic jams to north side attractions like the pueblo, ski valley and Rio Grande gorge recreation areas. People who've visited always comment on the peaceful spirit of the house, very clean and tidy. Nice patio for BBQ's and large rear entrance laundry/utility room perfect for staging recreation items like skis and boots and fishing gear. As this home is inherited and paid for, overhead is low and we just want people to enjoy themselves and allow us to maintain it for multiple uses of family and friends. So for the consumer it's a great bargain for a great location! Need extra accomodations? Rent the adjoining Cottage/Casita (vrbo #272424) and this house together for only $200 per night!
If you are going to visit Taos, this is a great place to stay. It is spacious, well appointed and very convenient to downtown Taos and the Plaza. Lots of good food, shopping and galleries within walking distance. Yavanne is a great hostess and very helpful. We have stayed here a few times and are planning on returning.
Spent just one night here with another couple. The house was comfortable and surprisingly large. Great location, we walked every place we went. Yavanne was very nice, the entire process was easy. We could have stayed here longer.
We stayed twice in December during ski trips to Taos. Once in the larger house and then in the smaller casita. Both places were well equipped, inviting and sufficiently warm for the cold December nights. They felt like home! The location is superb as we walked to Christmas festivities in the plaza and to nearby restaurants. David was great to deal with but the real treat was getting to know Yavanne. She took excellent care of us, made sure that we had everything we needed, and even offered to cook for my 4 college aged boys (sons and nephews) that came with insatiable appetites. What a godsend to find food waiting for us when we returned from the ski hill. I recommend asking her to cook for your family/group!! She is a superb cook - better than the restaurants nearby - best guacamole that we have had and nice traditional roasted green chili stew (spicy which our NM kids have been missing in college!). We are already planning additional ski trips to Taos and will be talking to Yavanne about cooking more dishes for us. See you soon Yavanne and next time we are bringing some good wine to go with your food! Thanks.
Our family of five and my parents stayed here over Fall break (Oct. 15- Oct. 19). The home is warm and inviting. The location is fantastic. We will certainly stay here again. Couple of notes: the noise from the road is noticeable especially in the front bedroom. We ran a box fan all night so to cover the noise level - it helped. Also, the property needed a few extra wash clothes. The washer and dryer is helpful. The value of this vacation rental is excellent. We'll be back!
This property was very comfortable and convenient for our stay over the 4th of July weekend. The house is in very good condition and the amenities are as described in the listing. Being within walking distance of all of downtown Taos was ideal and made it very easy to go out for walks, to restaurants for meals, etc. I was initially hesitant to book a property so near downtown because of the traffic but it was fairly quiet and unobtrusive despite all the 4th of July travelers driving by. We will stay here again if/when we return to Taos.
This place is amazing! It is a historical home right in the middle of town with a ton of space. The whole experience was completely wonderful from start to finish. David, the owner was great and accommodating. Yavonne, the caretaker was absolutely amazing and helpful. She even helped us get a jump the day we were leaving cause we had left our lights on the night before. I grew up in Taos and was excited to stay at this home since I was familiar with the property. I was impressed with the level of hospitality and affordability. I have recommended this place to lots of folks and intend to stay there again, I see no need to look any further for Taos accommodations.
