About The Owner

This property was inherited last year and I am managing it on behalf of myself and my brothers. I live in Berkeley California and own and operate a restaurant there. I visit Taos frequently.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose New Mexico

This is an inherited home. Our Grandparents, Murl and Lucy Packard built the home in the late 1940's. They owned and operated the Plaza Supermarket, the main grocery store in Taos from the early 1940's to the 1970's. Grandpa served on the Taos City Council and was instrumental in the construction of the Gorge Bridge over the Rio Grande. Our Mother, Rosemarie Packard was president of the Taos Chamber of comnmerce during the 1990's and cared for her parents here untill their passing. Rosemarie passed away in 2008. This house was a special place for all of us, filled with laughter and family gatherings. We hope your stay here fills you with the same good feelings.

What makes this house unique

Taos is fantastic any time of year but especially for its world famous skiing and summer rafting on the Rio Grande. Many cultural activities and an amazing array of neat shops and fine restaurants for a small town. Of course Taos pueblo is a must see. The location of this property is prime. Easy strolling to downtown plaza and all of the shops, taverns and restaurants as well as the local Farmers Market around the corner. Slightly north of the plaza in the more upscale part of town, it provides easy access without the center town traffic jams to north side attractions like the pueblo, ski valley and Rio Grande gorge recreation areas. People who've visited always comment on the peaceful spirit of the house, very clean and tidy. Nice patio for BBQ's and large rear entrance laundry/utility room perfect for staging recreation items like skis and boots and fishing gear. As this home is inherited and paid for, overhead is low and we just want people to enjoy themselves and allow us to maintain it for multiple uses of family and friends. So for the consumer it's a great bargain for a great location! Need extra accomodations? Rent the adjoining Cottage/Casita (vrbo #272424) and this house together for only $200 per night!

Its a great house for family get together. Love the king size beds in two bedrooms. Also the grill on the spacious back porch was a bonus. Walking distance to plaza and a park across the street...

The house was great, close to all activities and a great value. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean and the hostess very helpful with all our needs. The back yard was great for our fur baby and we enjoyed the swing on the back porch after our walks to town. I would recommend this place.

Taos visit July 2017

  • 5 of 5

Four members of our hiking group rented the house and casita for one week in early July 2017. The house was built around 1947 and was in excellent condition as was the casita. Both the house and the casita had furnishings which suited the needs of those who stayed there and was well supplied with the necessities for making the stay enjoyable. Yavenne was present to answer any questions and to attend to any minor problems which arose. The property is located 3-4 blocks from the plaza. Everything was within easy walking distance. The nearby police station took a few days to get used to. There was an overabundance of parking with the rental of both units. We enjoyed the nearby hiking, visited museums and galleries and found the nearby wine tasting room. Restaurants were within easy walking distance

We enjoyed our stay here

  • 4 of 5

The place was very big for the price. It is centeally located and within walking distance to everything downtown. They beds were very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was very nice with everything you need. We enjoyed the back porch but wish their was more seating outside. Lots of parking for everyone. We will stay here again.

The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars... No AC but it stayed semi cool during the day with windows open. The couches were very dirty under the cushions. I dropped my phone and had to lift the cushion. The ceiling fans didn't all work. The TV was set to a different output and it took us 20 minutes to figure out how to change it so we could watch Tv. One of the bedrooms didn't have a remote. Just minor things that we didn't mind. Overall great place to stay.

Great place for the price

  • 4 of 5

The casita was great stay for the price!. Very spacious and clean with ample kitchen supplies. My only complaints are the Internet was incredibly slow, there were no batteries in some of the tv remotes, and one night the electricity was out for 2 hours. The property manager said this happens a lot in the neighborhood so I don't believe it had anything to do with the casita itself. I work from home & was glad to be on vacation Bc the Internet would not have been sufficient (a speed test showed less than 0.5 MB download). If you're looking to vacation off the grid, this is the place. Very conveniently located within walking distance to shops & restaurants.
