Guestbook comments from the owner

First I must thanks Deborah, She dealt with all the e-mails very quickly and could not have been more helpful.

The house was just as described and far exceeded our expectations, It was too good for four guys out for Bike week. It is located perfectly for the Speedway in Daytona to travel in to, and is located very close to the Iron Horse/Smiley Tap and The Broken Spokes saloon.

We have been to bike week three times now, and I wish we had found this place when we first came out three years ago.

The bars and restaurants in Flagler are literally round the corner and right next to the beach, and all excellent. This house is perfect for families vacating, even if in Orlando. The I95 is direct and so easy to drive to and from (about 90 mins). Great if you want all the attractions but don't want it all the Disney stuff 24/7.

The pool is a real bonus, and so right for families with kids. Also you can eat on the decking area as it has a BBQ, and large enough for the 10 people this house can take with ease. the house backs onto a water way were you could even try some fishing.

The feel of Flagler is of real america and the locals could not be more friendly or helpful, we will be back and booking this house again.

I don't know how other people have reviewed this, but I would "HIGHLY RECOMMEND" this house.

Once again many thanks Deborah.

Overall Great with Minor Inconveniences

  • 3 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Dolphin House. The house was spacious and well stocked, the pool was clean and fun, the back porch area was a great place to BBQ, relax, and be together over the canal behind the house. The master bedroom was, in a word, stunning. The bed was huge, the bathroom an enormous massage shower. The proximity to the beach and lovely restaurants (The Funky Pelican was great) was ideal. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much, would recommend it to others, and would stay here again.

That having been said, I feel it necessary to point out a few things that the owner didn't care enough to take care of. First of all, the back bedroom (which we paid $200 extra to have one more couple stay here for the week) has the worst mattress I have ever slept on. It is small, misshapen, and we woke up every day with back pain. To have such a contrast between the master suite and the back bedroom is shocking, and caused some diplomacy problems when deciding who slept where. If they will be charging so much extra for a house that sleeps 8 the beds should be the same quality for all.

The only light in that back bedroom was burnt out. There were also two broken doors in the house, one leading to the mudroom and one leading to the living room. The dishwasher had a broken wheel which was very annoying to use. One of the coffeemakers (the nicer one) did not work. This did not ruin our stay but for the price we paid for the property we expected it to be well-maintained.

One last word about the owner's communication, we received a print out of instructions for the house, all reasonable requests, but each one felt like a threat. "If you don't take the garbage out you will not receive your deposit back." "If you don't put the patio furniture back you will not receive your deposit back." "If you don't separate your recycling you will not receive your deposit back." "If you don't wash the towels before 10AM you will not receive your deposit back." We did not feel at home at the Dolphin House because communication was not welcoming but rather threatening.

Once again, the house overall was a wonderful place to stay. We just hope that in the future the owner has a better eye for detail on home maintenance and communicates with the travelers in a more welcoming way.

Owner's Response: Well although your review had a lot of good things noted we strive for all 5 star and have always had 5 stars so 3 stars is a huge disappointment for us the negative things were very unexpected, previous guests had no issues with this fairly new coffee maker. I'm sorry a lightbulb blew out in the bedroom there is a second lamp we do leave extra bulbs in the kitchen cabinet so renters can change the occasional bulb when needed, I will also look into that mattress, I have to admit I always sleep in the master and never have tried that mattress we have never had a complaint before so it wasn't out of neglect I can assure you. I have to say the threats about loosing the deposit are just not true, I am pasting the exact wording from that portion of our welcome letter word for word, the housekeepers can not be expected to move furniture back after rentals and we do have to call in extra help when clients move the furniture and that cost is passed down to the clients if they wish to not return the furniture, also Flagler Beach is strict on recycling and they do claim to fine houses for not recycling just there way to help with the enormous amount of garbage we produce and to try to encourage residents and visitors to do the right thing for our environment. Here is that portion of the letter: Do not move furniture, if you move any furniture inside or out it must be returned before check out. If it is not returned to the location it belongs there will be a fee deducted from the deposit. If you have a pet you must clean up after that pet. Towels must be washed and in the dryer, dishes clean and put away, all garbage must be in the outdoor garbage cans and recycling in recycler box and put out by the road.

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Dolphin House the week after Hurricane Mathew hit the coast, October 15-22. This house is great! Having 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms was very comfortable for my husband and I with our grown adult children and our 2-year old grandchild. The outside area is definitely the best. We lazed around the huge pool and shady deck area during the day; and in the evenings, we lit a fire in the outdoor Mexican fireplace. There was a nice breeze coming through every day.

The inside of the house is roomy with comfortable dining and seating for everybody. Having the pool table inside was a nice bonus too. Everybody enjoyed the use of the huge double shower in the master bedroom.

We found that the beach and some great restaurants are within walking distance. This house is not on the beach, but close enough for us; we would definitely come back again.

Amazing Vacation Rental!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented this vacation home 7/16-7/23/16. The house is even more amazing than the photos! It is such a large home that it is perfect for multiple couples. The outdoor area with pool was by far my favorite part! You will not want to leave the house!

We have been to Flagler Beach before, but only for a week at a time. The winters here, in Northeast Ohio, were getting colder, with ridiculous amounts of snow. On one -13 degree day, I said to my husband, we have to escape these winters. We were familiar with the area of Flagler Beach, so that is why we chose to go back . This time for eight weeks, and the only way we could do that, is to take our dogs, as we could never leave them for that long. We were lucky enough, and feel blessed to have found the Dolphin House. First let me say, it is BIG. Lots and lots of room. It is very clean, and inviting. The back yard is private, and fenced, which was perfect for the dogs and it is for sure, an outdoor living space, with all that it has to offer. The pool is beautiful and huge, and although some of the days were to chilly to go in, just sitting by it, was very peaceful and relaxing. The tiki bar was wonderful, for evening cocktails. We would fish in the canal, off the back (catch and release) and could even do that if raining, as we were covered by the large pavilion. The neighborhood is quite, and neighbors were friendly. I walked everyday, and there is a wonderful park at the end of the main street, that has boardwalks out to the water. We saw so many different birds, and also a large turtle. While were there , a new restaurant called Hidden Treasure opened on the intercostal, which is right around the corner . We went there a few times, and loved it! The Flagler Fish Co. and The Funky Pelican at the Pier, were also some of our favorites. Publix is exactly one mile away, so grocery shopping was easy, and fast. A great open kitchen to cook in, and a large laundry room were an added plus. Very comfortable beds, and that shower in the master bed room is fantastic! Deborah, was helpful with anything we had concerns about. The coffee maker acted up, and even though there was another one, she had a new one sent to the house the next day! I was sorry to leave but we have already reserved our stay for 2017, for 8 weeks and would even stay longer, if possible, but someone else has dates booked. We were so pleased and so happy, that we already are counting the days until our return.

Three letters WOW!

  • 5 of 5

We are Canadians and have been snowbirds since the 1980's when we use to travel every winter to Florida with the children. 30 years later, our dog has become our child and we enjoy travelling with our fur friend, a german shepherd Shiloh but since he weighs 115 pounds, it is a challenge to find proper accomodations since usually we are very nomadic and travel all over Florida for one month with 2 or 3 days at each location. Last year, we decided for the first time we would spend a month in one place. In 2012, we had done all the beaches and had decided we would find a rental in Flagler Beach...a small community that was very pet friendly. It was important to us to have a spacious place since we live in the country and even if it could accomodate 12 people,we decided on the Dolphin House . When we first opened the door to the Dolphin House, we immediately felt home...and so did Shiloh. The pool, pool table and fishing off the deck became daily rituals. I love to cook and the kitchen was a dream. 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, huge Tiki Bar with BBQ, authentic Mexican fireplace, media room, washer and dryer, immaculately clean...was actually better than our home in 5 feet of snow in the winter! The gracious owners even dropped by for a visit with their little darling fur baby, Olive! Husband was wondering what we would do for a month in one place...every morning, he would walk with Shiloh to the Atlantic Ocean and read the paper by the pier. Saturday was Farmer Market day within walking distance from the Dolphin House. Most nights, we went to Johnny D's for supper; a pet friendly restaurant with live entertainement. Great Used Book store with a very knowledgable owner. Discovered many plantations and ruins with beautiful walking trails for Shiloh. Flagler Beach is between St. Augustine ( pet friendly cruise on the Victory III ) and Daytona, allowing us to visit both places on numerous occasions. The neighbors of the Dolphin House were very welcoming and friendly. One morning we woke up and sadly our stay was over. Driving back home, we decided that it had been our best vacation ever and it would be wonderful to do a repeat...which is why we will be staying almost two months in 2014 ! Youppie! Cannot immagine staying at any other place better than the Dolphin House....our home away from home :)

Owner's Response: Thank You, We are glad you enjoyed the house and Flagler Beach. We look forward to your arrival in January 2014. There is a new restaurant opening on the intercostal sometime soon and a New Mexican place on the beach with a fire pit and 2nd story deck that is also pet friendly, so more spots to visit on the next trip. :)

My family's BIG vacation for the summer

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 3 kids, 2-inlaws and myself stayed and had a great time in June. The house is plenty large and could have slept a few more if needed. The outdoor living space was a surprise treat, the pool is very large and the canal full of fish. We will stay there again next year for sure.
