The lot was originally purchased by my Grandparents in 1978 and the home was built in 1981. All of the grandkids (4) learned how to fish, swim and snorkel right here, and today the fourth generation of great grandkids (8) is again learning how to swim, snorkel and fish right in the backyard.
Frank Rodriguez purchased this house in 1981
This was the dream location where my grandparents wanted to retire to. The fabulous sunsets, the quiet solitude, the crystal clear waters, the wonderful breeze, and the fabulous fishing attracted them to this location over 30 years ago. This home became their most prized possession.
The home has been fully renovated with new flooring, furniture, bedding, new bathrooms and kitchen, and it is fully equipped with all the conveniences of home. The pool faces west, overlooking the waterway and the sunsets. You can also get ocean views from the balcony. The home has High Definition Satellite TV, wireless Internet access and a fabulous location. You are only 15 minutes from Marathon or Islamorada, and only 80-90 minutes from Key West. One of the few locations in the world where you can swim with Dolphins is located in Grassy Key, only 5 minutes from the house.
My family has stayed in this home each summer for many years. It is absolutely perfect. The home owners are very accommodating. The response time for questions is almost immediate. Frank manages the house for the family and he is awesome! This is a lovely home, clean, perfectly located and totally equipped . Our family considers this our home away from home.
Not a 4/3 ! Exetremely disappointed. Downstairs unit is non livable due to the upstairs sewer drain pipe that runs through that downstairs efficiency. Very very sad the "manager" seemed very nice on the front side of our arrangement but then became un reachable after our few complaints and after our return home.
The pool is a sauna, not a pool. It reaches about 95 degrees during the day - hardly refreshing.
Not a great experience
The house is in an amazing location with a great back yard view. The grounds and pool are very nice and we'll kept. The pool was always at a great temperature (thanks sun) and the water right off the the dock is very nice and clear. There are a lot of fish day or night right off the dock. The house is located just a few minutes drive to Marathon which has your Publix and Kmart for shopping needs. At night it was so nice and peaceful hanging out under the gazebo. The house is spacious and has some nice amenities like washer and dryer along with some basic kitchen items. But, there are some needed improvements. When we arrived the washer had damp and stinky towels that had been forgotten. The dryer has sheets in it as well. We noticed that the floors needed to be swept. I emailed the manager and he offered to send the housekeeper over the next day but we passed because by the time I got a reply later in the day I had already swept (I like a clean house) and re-washed the towels. As we settled in we noticed other needed improvements.
1. The downstairs unit (not connected from inside to upstairs ) has a very noticeable humid/musty smell that never went away the whole week we were there.
2. The portable AC unit installed downstairs never quite kept the front bunk bed area cool enough compared to the rest of the rooms or house.
3. The downstairs unit has a lot of ants so everyday we were having to kill them.
4. The upstairs master shower curtain was very gross and had orange and black looking mold. And the bathrooms had used bar soaps in the tubs/showers left behind.
5. The kitchen lacks stuff needed for cooking like mixing bowl and the items that were there should be updated. As an example the whisk had rust on it.
6. The kitchen could used a good cleaning as there were spatter and crumbs throughout. Ideally it needs a makeover and the cabinet veneer is lifting in many places too.
7. You will have to buy/bring everything (essentials) as there were none. No hand soap (we bought and left some), paper towels, very few garbage bags, toilet paper, ect.
8. The dock box has some pool toys but they were in need of a good cleaning so we didn't use them, the dock hose was broken and sprayed water everywhere, and only 1 of the fishing poles was working.
Overall we made it work after doing some shopping and stocking what we needed. We didn't let these issues put a huge damper on our stay. We would consider a stay here again if improvements were made.
We have stayed in many places in the Marathon and Duck Key area. The view at this location is second to none. The outdoor area is perfect for families and has an unusually large pool for homes in the keys. The house is clean and is easy to stay in. My only suggestion would be to include better linens for the beds, but we have learned over the years to bring our own anyway. For the price, this house is the best combination of accommodations, view, location, and amenities. We would certainly stay here again.
Booked this home for a Christmas/New Years vacation with family. The outside is very pretty, but lacks privacy. The neighbor had guests/family visiting. One early evening only my aunt and I were home swimming in the pool when suddenly the neighbor's son or son in law started screaming at us from his patio. We were threatened to be kicked off the property for our dog barking. Meanwhile, our dog was barking because he was yelling. It was startling and very strange. We also witnessed the same man kicking his little boy (age 6 or 7?) off of his jet ski, into the water. Later during our stay, their pups would wander into our yard and poop. On one occasion the neighbor's daughter told my sister, "shut-up, who cares" when she tried to lead the little dogs back into their yard. I immediately informed Frank about the neighbor's but what could he do? He did say that it never happened before. On our walks, we met many other friendly folks. The notes in other posts regarding the furnishings and bi level living space are true. The pool is not heated so it can be uncomfortably cool in December. We enjoyed the Tiki hut and love Duck Key, but because of the screwy neighbors and lack of privacy, I would not stay at this property again.
We have been going to Duck Key for the last 25 years and this is our first stay at this beautiful property. The sunset views are spectacular! The house was well equipped and was a great set-up for a large group of people with kids. The pool and tiki hut were perfect for a hot day. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed the open floor plan. The property manager, Frank, was a pleasure to work with and checked up via email shortly after we arrived to make sure that everything was going well. We would definitely stay here again.
