About Chris Volker
This rather large King crab came to dinner with a couple of his friends when we where visiting our son and his family in Korea. Most of the time we are in Bellingham maintaining the property you see in the pictures. My wife and I live in the downstairs flat.
Chris Volker purchased this House in 2000
Why Chris Volker chose South Hill
We have owned this classic home for 17 years and have made the upper flat available as a VRBO property. It took a while to put everything in order but the work has been worth it. The photos tell it all. The flats are completely separate from each other.
What makes this House unique
Centrally located to all the our region has to offer. Surprisingly private for being right in the middle of town

Family Reunion in Bellingham WA
We were able to have a lovely family reunion with two of our adult children who have abandoned Michigan for Washington. The house was just perfect, with plenty of space and a modern kitchen. The house is exactly as pictured at Home Away and there is a great view of Bellingham Bay from the living room.
The owner was very accomadating with allowing for a little earlier access and an extra hour at departure. Would definitely stay again.
The property was lovely and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked. Coy pond & gardens.
There were 3 adults traveling together and we did not want just a hotel or 2 hotel rooms. The accommodations were spacious, comfortable and appealing. We had 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room, dining room and well appointed kitchen.
The deck was lovely out back of the house. Beautiful gardens and a coy pond.
The views from the living room and 2 of the bedrooms was perfect.
Would recommend this property only be aware of the number of steps leading from the street to the unit. This may be an issue for some people.
One of the best VRBO properties my friends and I remember staying in. Clean, bright, well-appointed.
This is a superb property with a strong sense of place. Beautiful furnishings. Great seaside views.
Our stay was excellent in all respects. Stunning views of the ocean out the front. Magazine-cover terraced garden in the back. Destination walks in all directions. Perfect.
Great for family in town
I rented this lovely space for some family that was coming into town from the Midwest. They loved the gardens, the decor, and of course the view! I would absolutely recommend this space to anyone looking to have a relaxing experience in Bellingham.
A Jewel of a Find
The flat is absolutely lovely -- sunny, spacious, immaculate, and incredibly comfortable. Chris and Sheryl are warm and gracious hosts and have paid attention to every detail. The setting has beautiful gardens and a pretty back deck; the view from the front of the house of Bellingham Bay is stunning, especially at sunset. The flat is very near to both Bellingham and Fairhaven. We look forward to returning.
Western Washington University is 2 blocks away with downtown Bellingham and historic Fairhaven equal distance and both easily reached by the interurban trail 2 blocks below by the bay. Lots of parking on the street. The convenience of location makes it easy to get to where you want to go. Take a water taxi to the San Juan Islands from Fairhaven. One hour to Vancouver B.C. or an hour and a half to Mt. Baker or Seattle. You will quickly see Bellingham has unlimited activities to offer with a central hub location.
