About Ian Petry

I have owned and lived in the Harrison Modern since 1997. I have a passion for architecture and interior design, you will see this in every aspect of the building. Originally born in New Zealand, I have traveled the world and the US extensively, I believe that Seattle is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. My background is in Tourism Marketing, I worked for the New Zealand Tourism Board in Los Angeles for 8 years before moving to Seattle in 1994. I have a love of travel and new experiences - Whenever I away I always stay at vacation apartments, as you get a real feel for the destination you are visiting.

Ian Petry purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Ian Petry chose Central

Seattle is a vibrant city full of amazing sights from world class architecture, vibrant arts scene, to spectacular outdoor activities. Capitol Hill, is the perfect location to explore all Seattle and everything the region has to offer. If you are not traveling outside the city you won't need a car, everything is within an easy walk or a short bus ride. Within 3 short blocks of the building are a number of great restaurants, shops and cafes, 2 supermarkets and 3 wonderful city parks. Capitol Hill is a rich, diverse, neighborhood with multi million mansions and a wonderful farmer's market within blocks of each other. One thing I am sure about... You will love the location.

I have done a lot of traveling and believe that Seattle and the Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful, livable, areas in the North America.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, Location, Location... Capitol Hill is the most convenient neighborhood to downtown Seattle. from our building it is a lovely 15 minute walk to downtown. The building is super stylish, all the apartments are large and individually furnished in keeping with the mid-century contemporary theme. Comfort, convenience, and style are what you will find when you stay at the Harrison Modern.

Very comfortable apartment in great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Harrison Modern. It has a spacious open floor plan and a big window in the living room with a great view. The kitchen and bathroom were very well-stocked, including things you don't expect like shampoo, coffee and coffee filters. There are plenty of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. If the weather had been better we would have enjoyed using the deck outside the living room.

We stayed at the apartment from October 6 through the 9th. The place was just as we had expected, according to the reviews, and we were very happy with our home for 3 nights. The apartment had everything we needed and was very comfortable for us. It was our first time visiting Seattle and we were happy with our choice to visit such a great city and stay in such a great place. We paid for parking which was useful instead of trying to find parking on the street. You really can walk to so many places, including downtown, however, we were glad we rented a car since we could travel to other parts of the city and outlying areas which were beautiful. Parking downtown can be expensive. We would highly recommend staying here!

Second Visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to the Harrison Modern and it was just as great as our first one. Just can't beat the location. The new light rail stop is only a five minute walk from the apartment. Trip to and from airport is a breeze. If you are into Poke, we found a new place on Broadway named Wanderfish. It's very good.

Nice property!

  • 4 of 5

The property was as advertised. It was well equipped ( except for toilet paper) , had nice bedding with lots of pillows, was clean and the deck was wonderful. The location can't be beat, we walked to most activities and used Uber a few times. Uber downtown at peak hours was about 7.00, cheaper than parking. From the airport we used light rail to the Capitol Hill station then walked to the apartment in 12 minutes. The light rail was about a 40 minute ride. My only suggestion is that the pullout couch be upgraded, was not great for sleeping. Would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, we LOVE our location also! My apologies for the lack of toilet paper, the housekeeper must have forgotten to check. The sofa sleeper is what it is, however, we do supply an extra topper pad, I'm sorry your son found it uncomfortable. Best Ian

Yes, I would recommend the Harrison Modern

  • 4 of 5

We spent 4 days in Seattle on a mini vacation (our first visit there) and enjoyed our stay at the Harrison Modern very much. Our unit had a large deck and the weather cooperated so we spent lots of time out there when we were not out touring Seattle. The Capitol Hill location is wonderful; shopping , restaurants and parks were close by and easily walkable. (the Coastal Kitchen restaurant was one of our favorites, as was the Americana) The neighborhood is very diverse, people watching was a blast. (We saw one purple haired couple with their purple haired toddler daughter in tow. Lots and lots of purple hair and tattoos) People are relaxed and very friendly. Unit was well equipped, we were able to cook a few meals there with no problem. Our one bedroom unit was a good size (this could have been a 3 bedroom in NYC!) and the decor was modern and comfortable. Ian was very friendly and introduced himself, parking was a breeze (we paid additional $ for reserved parking space). Shared laundry on premises was useful. The WIFI is slow, the cable selection is limited, and the walls must be pretty thin as we could hear the neighbors, but none of this deterred us from having a great time and enjoying the accomodations. And we LOVED Seattle.
