About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms, 2 bathroom with farm land veiw, (Sleeps 2-8)

Churchtown Manor Farm Guesthouse is located 15 minutes from the village of Intercourse, in the heart of Amish Country. Staying at Churchtown Manor is an opportunity to experience a farm . Come enjoy and relax .

Churchtown Manor was formerly an Amish farm which was purchased by the owners great-grandparents in 1937. The farmhouse was built in the 1800's and has been remodeled recently. The Guesthouse was originally built for the owners grandfather after his son got married and took over the farm. The apartment has since been occupied by the owners parents as well.

Among the Amish and Mennonites, attached apartments like the Guesthouse are commonly known as the 'Dawdy House'. ('Dawdy' is the word for 'Father' in the Pennsylvania Dutch language that the Amish speak.) Often when a son takes over the farm, the father 'Dawdy' will move into the apartment so that the son has room to raise his family and also so that the father can semi-retire.

These apartments are also sometimes occupied by a newly married son or daughter. When you stay with the Stoltzfus' in their 'Dawdy House', you are actually able to experience part of the Amish and Mennonite culture!

The Stoltzfus' would love to have you stay with them and enjoy their 100 acre, organic dairy farm which boasts beautiful views of the countryside. When you stay at Churchtown Manor and experience the peaceful setting, let your mind take you back to what this farm may have been like 100 years ago!

The Stoltzfus' own Lena's Victorian Luxuries in Bird-In-Hand, a gift shop that will also take you back 100 years! The Guesthouse is decorated with items from their shop. You will definitely want to take a trip to the store to purchase a gift for that friend you left at home or a treat for yourself.

Misleading information

  • 1 of 5

I felt really misled about the whole experience. Not what I feel was advertised. No calves to feed and no interaction from anyone there, until the morning we were leaving. Will not return!!!!

Outstanding rental property and owners

  • 5 of 5

We could not have picked a better get-away vacation. Lena and her family were fantastic hosts. Our family with four children were able to experience the miracle of life as one of the homes dogs had 8 puppies the night we arrived. What a wonderful experience we were invited to witness. Sight and Sound Jonah was terrific. Lapp Family Ice Cream was superb. So much to see and do. We are farm animal lovers so this was definitely the place to visit. Thank you so much for five very memorable days!

Must have multiple personalities or fake reviews

Felt like you were an intruder. Never saw a cow.Drove out of the way of actual destination just to give the kids a great experience and was a waste. Would have been better off staying at a hotel with a pool. NO MILK to be found here no cows either. Nice horse we found on our own and the pickles were ok. Also dogs were nice put there is also a puppy mill on this property Don't fall for it stay at a hotel and drive by a couple farms same experience.

Owner's Response: lots of things on a farm that a city person does not understand . I am sorry we had a quiet weekend and it did not seem very entertaining .We did not have milking cows for a few months but that was because we lost our milk contract and we are waiting for another one to come. There is still cows and a horse here. I NEVER make people feel like they are intruders. I want everyone to feel welcome and I always tell them they are welcome any were on the farm. I try to make you feel like you are a part of the family but i am very conscious not to intrude on your space. I knew this family was here as a family vacation and i did not want to interrupt family time. About our lovely dogs .WE ARE NOT A PUPPY MILL. We are taking care of a few of my families dogs because they moved and do not have the space . Our dogs live in a house that is under strict PA license laws. We love animals and do our BEST to care for them. I wish the lady would have asked me these questions but she did not and she will not respond to my emails . Please ask if you have farm questions we really want to educate on farm life and do want you to enjoy our farm with us. Please read all the other reviews and you will see this family would not have been happy on any other farm.

Most refreshing vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We just drove away from a weekend we will never forget! We were greeted with amazing views everywhere we looked and an incredibly welcoming and clean home! All of the area attractions are within a comfortable and beautiful driving distance. The farm itself is so peaceful and entertaining that we spent way more time simply taking in the views and letting the kids play and explore than we originally planned. This home is very well suited for kids but would be pefect for an adult only trip as well! We will absolutely be back again! Don't miss your chance to be close to all that the Lancaster area has to offer while staying in the middle of peace and tranquility. Thank you Lena and family for providing your home for others to experience!
