Perched at the edge of a bluff overlooking some of the most spectacular coastline in Northern California, Cove House is a place where you can close the gates and withdraw from the world. The house faces west-southwest on a fenced acre and a half, with private access to the cove below. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or an armchair naturalist, you'll be mesmerized by the abundant sea and bird life: whales, sea lions, hawks, gulls, pelicans, egrets, herons, and even an occasional otter. Sunset and star-gazing from the hot tub are not to be missed!
This charming home is light and airy with white-washed wood beamed ceilings and comfortable cottage-style furnishings. The ocean-side bedroom provides direct ocean views and deck access. A second bedroom is paneled in knotty pine and has the look and feel of a vintage cabin.
The living room entertainment center has satellite TV, and is stocked with books, board games, and movies for your enjoyment. The adjacent sun room leads to a large deck with a hot tub that feels suspended over the cove. Both the living areas and the deck offer dramatic views of the cove below, as well as offshore islands and the extensive series of bluffs that make up the North Coast.
As a bonus, our seaside meadow offers its own jaw-dropping views -- ideal for a leisurely game of croquet or horseshoes (both provided). Or curl up in an Adirondack chair with a good book, some wine and cheese, and the surf lapping in the cove below. If you haven't brought a book, our library is far more extensive and literate than most vacation rentals.
The Gualala stretch of Highway One is the mid-point of a drive Coastal Living magazine recently named the most scenic coastal drive in North America. The town of Gualala enjoys a 'banana belt' microclimate, with sun and mild temperatures much of the year - along with the occasional whopping coastal storm. Winter guests will enjoy the coziness of a warm fire in the glass-front wood stove.
The world-renowned Sea Ranch golf course is located just ten minutes south of Cove House and is open to the public. Kayaks can be rented in town. There are several excellent restaurants in the area. The lovingly-restored Point Arena Theater offers first-run movies and regularly hosts concerts.
Cove House is a wonderful place to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary, or just to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a few days. Kick off your shoes, prop up your feet, and stay awhile!
We both love the North Coast and found we particularly liked the Gualala area for the dramatic seascapes, great weather, and less touristy ambiance.
Gualala is an arts community and holds frequent art shows,.
We maintain an excellent and broad library at Cove House, so there's always a good book to read.
The house was wonderful, more than we had hoped for. And to wake in the morning, walk out your bedroom door to the panoramic view, took my breath away each time.
The Cove House is tastefully furnished and very comfortable. The views are amazing and you get to enjoy them constantly as you lounge around. The interior is modest but includes nice touches like the vintage gas range and the wood stove. We faithfully visited the meadow with the great cedar chairs for sunset Be sure to explore the path down to the cove--you need to be comfortable with a few steep sections of trail. Patrick was super helpful and very responsive via email. We hope to visit again.
My husband and I stayed here and it was wonderful! very clean and cozy, and the ocean view was spectacular . Just what we needed for a quite getaway and would recommend this to any one who wanted to have a romantic, peaceful time.
Thank you !!!
Two large souvenir Gualala coffee cups appeared so everything is perfect again. We liked them so much we bought two at the Surf Market to take home. Found a book from the library, the sun room is great for reading. Enjoyed the sound of sea lions barking in the distance. The place and the area deserve a week next time. Thanks to the owners for letting us visit this wonderful place.
The coffee cups are too small. That's pretty much the only thing I can find to complain about. Otherwise ... very private, thorough instructions/directions from the owners, wonderful layout, great views, quick 5 minute drive to town, complete set of appliances, linens, & utensils, and VERY spacious .... just a great rental for a more-than-fair price
My boyfriend and I spent a romantic weekend at this spectacular cottage last weekend for his birthday. The place was absolutely spotless - so clean that we marveled over it. The view was amazing and one to be enjoyed day or night. The hot tub was hot when we arrived and super clean. We also enjoyed two sunsets in the lovely meadow. The climb down to the cove was easy and the tide pools were fun. We drove up the coast one day to Mendocinco and had two great meals right in Gualala. We highly recommend St. Orres for a romantic dinner. We hope to make this our regular get away place and can't wait to go back!
We were thrilled with this home...it had every convenience and the location was at the edge of the world. The sunsets we watched from the hot tub on the deck were gorgeous beyond description, and the peacefulness was perfection. We felt totally safe even though we were in a sparsely populated area of California. There was an incredible library which we took advantage of, including bird identification books. Our time there felt like heaven on earth. I sincerely hope we can return some day, as it was beyond our expectations.
Wine Tasting, Whale Watching, Tidepooling.
